Atoms, Empty Space and the Universe.
herme3 replied to YT2095's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
I'm sorry. I meant to say that I have an idea. -
If the space between matter is completely empty, how can space "end" without a type of barrier made out of a force or matter? I thought that the empty space was infinite, and only the section with matter ended. I always heard that if you come to the end of the matter, you just go through empty space forever. I know this may not be the best example, but I once tried to program a video game very similar to the first Mario games. Normally there is a physical object in the program that ends the level when you finish it. Most players call this the goal. However, if you forget to add the goal, you walk into the beginning of the same level. Could the universe work the same as a computer simulation?

Atoms, Empty Space and the Universe.

Isn't atomic structure still unknown for the most part? I don't believe that scientists have ever been able to see an atom with a microscope. Would that even be possible? However' date=' how do we know that empty space is completely empty? What if the particles are just so small that we can't detect them with our current technology? No, I just wanted to make it clear that I can't think of a way to prove it. It just seems like creative idea. Maybe I should create a new thread about this. I don't want to bring YT2095's thread off topic. -

I have heard many different versions of the big bang theory. The most common one involves all the matter in the universe being compacted in a very small sphere. Suddenly, there is a huge force that causes all of that matter to expand outward. I really don't understand that theory, because if the sphere of matter had been compacted for an infinite amount of time before the big bang, I don't understand what would cause the sudden expansion. In my opinion, the most reasonable big bang theory involves everything expanding, then coming together again. This creates another big bang and the whole process repeats itself. If this has been happening and will continue to happen for an infinite amount of time, that would help eliminate the question of how the universe was first created. Although, there are many parts of that theory that can't be explained yet, so I can't say I believe it is true. The third big band theory involves multiple universes. I read about it in a science magazine. It basically says that there are two separate universes. Every once in a while, the two universes collide and create a big bang. I must admit that I don't understand that theory. If you think about the first two theories, there would still be an empty space in the center of the universe while the matter is expanding outward. In that case, wouldn't the matter have to come from outside the universe? When you blow up a balloon, the air doesn't expand from the center of the balloon. It comes from outside, and goes into the balloon. If the universe works the same way, where is the outside place that the matter came from?
-
I always heard that the big bang was an explosion that keeps happening forever. All the matter moves outward at an incredible speed. This would leave a bunch of empty space in the middle. Over time, the speed in which the matter is moving outward slows down. Eventually everything comes back into the center again and collides. Then it goes outward again.
-
If the big bang is true, wouldn't there be empty space in the middle of the universe? All matter would be sent outward, and the universe would be expanding in all directions. However, the center would be an area of empty space that is constantly increasing in size. Wouldn't this be true?

Where is Gettysburg, VA? I've never heard of it, and I can't find anything about it online. Anyway, I'm not saying my pictures are proof of the supernatural. I'm just saying they can't be explained with our current knowledge. Can you explain why I have never taken pictures like these outside of Gettysburg, even though I have taken other pictures at night? However, when I take pictures at Gettysburg it is rare for me not to get something strange in the pictures?
-
I try not to call them ghosts. I try to use the phrase, "ghost-like" objects because I'm not sure they are ghosts. I sometimes call them "ghosts" as a bad habit because that is what most people keep calling them. I do believe that they are something unusual that can't be explained with our current scientific knowledge. I really don't believe they are lens flares because I use the same camera all the time and never get these types of pictures. As a science experiment, the constants are my camera and I. The dependant variable is the location. The independent variable is whether or not orbs or other ghost-like objects appear in the pictures. The orbs only appear in Gettysburg. Therefore, there must be something about that location that isn't anywhere else. The only thing that separates Gettysburg from other places is the fact that thousands of people died there hundreds of years ago. My question is, how can the death of people result in orbs? Gettysburg is in Pennsylvania, I live in Virginia. I did have to travel to get those pictures. Your recent post just shows that you are lazier than me. I had to stay at a hotel room for a week. If I spent the time and effort to visit Gettysburg, I don't understand why you are unable to.

I actually did see the orbs exactly when the flash went off. It was so quickly, that I didn't have a chance to actually look at them. However, I would normally know whether or not the picture I just took would have orbs before I looked at the picture. Of course, I never actually saw the orbs floating around. It was almost like the orbs reflected the flash. If you live close to Gettysburg, you should go to the battlefield at night with a camera. You will understand what I'm talking about, and you will probably get your own orb pictures. There are many stories about people seeing the actual ghosts at night. However, I've never experienced such a thing. Even though I haven't experienced anything more than taking these pictures, I still plan on going back to Gettysburg. Who knows what I might find. There are so many stories of so many mysteries at Gettysburg. That's why I think some of you should go there before trying to come up with an explanation. You might actually see a real ghost walk up to you. Then you would believe some of the stories... I don't understand why I'm the one that should have to prove the existence of unexplainable events in Gettysburg. I'm not saying there is a monster in my own home. Gettysburg is a public place, and you should go there before claiming these events are fiction or misunderstood.

Sorry, but that one looks really fake...
-
I think MrL uncovered the true purpose of this thread. Yes I am aware of the fact that people can make fake images with computers. I found the following "police chase" picture on a joke web site: The person that created this picture must have put a lot of time into it. Most fake computer images have certain objects or people that don't have shadows while all of the other objects in the picture have shadows. Anyway, I think fake computer images are off topic. I know for a fact that these images were not created by a computer because I took them with my own camera! If I had downloaded these from a web site, I would believe that they could be fake. However, I took these pictures myself.

I don't know. I only read the book, I didn't write it or talk to the people that wrote it. I suppose it would be a good explanation if you are against the existence of ghosts. All the explanations the people in this forum provided are objects that exist everywhere. There has to be something that is unique about Gettysburg. I do not get these types pictures where I live.

The books are called "Ghosts of Gettysburg" and it is a really popular series. I think I have about 10 of them.
-
Why wouldn't it? The book said that energy flows through the Earth in different places. It has to do with the gravitational field. The book said that is the "scientific" explanation of the people who don't believe in ghosts.

I just tried, but it told me that the gif image was too large. How did you get the Homer bubble? Is there any way you can select different bubble characters, or do you have to upload them from your computer?
-
No, I guess not... You did have a good point when you said it could be something specific to the area. What could it be? It wasn't really dusty, and I didn't notice a lot of bugs outside. I hate bugs, so if there were a lot of bugs I would have remembered them. There also wasn't any rain or fog. One of my ghosts books suggests an energy field near Gettysburg. This would be a good scientific explanation I could agree with, but I can't think of a way to prove that either.

Ok, I changed it. Now I think it looks much better. Thanks for the advice!

Aww... You hurt his feelings! Yeah, but I just wanted the simple image. I don't want it to distract from my posts too much.
