  1. Do you remember when there were only few scientists that believed the Earth was round hundreds of years ago? It was "utterly incomprehensible" that we could stand on something that is round and not fall off. How is the Gettysburg story any different from the disbelief of the shape of the Earth? Everything is "utterly incomprehensible" until we find an explanation.
  2. I was wondering if we could come up with a type of scientific theory to explain how this happened. We use the term "supernatural" too often. I think we should try to figure out how things like this can happen without saying the people that experience "supernatural" events are crazy. Strange things happen in our world all the time. Normally we end up classifying them as fiction or religion. I don't think all these events are fiction, and I doubt seeing the American Civil War happening during the 21st century is part of any religion. These are real events that should be studied using real science. Scientists should go to Gettysburg, collect data and perform experiments, and then try to come up with a reasonable explanation.
  3. First of all, I'm sorry if anyone thinks this is in the wrong topic. I looked at all the topics, and I couldn't decide because different people will have different opinions about this post. Some may believe that this is fictional, or related to religion. However, I believe that this really happened, so I consider it to be real science. Several years ago, there were a few teachers in an elevator at a college in Gettysburg. They went down into the basement for some reason. When the doors opened, they found themselves back in the Civil War! The basement was being used as a hospital. There were injured Civil War soldiers everywhere. The teachers pushed a button on the elevator and went back to the upper level. Then they went back down to the basement. When the doors opened, they saw nothing but storage boxes. No matter how many times they tried, they could not go back in time again. I have no reason to doubt that this story is true. I have been to Gettysburg, and I got real pictures of strange things with my own camera. Gettysburg is not a normal place. This is not religion that you can't find proof of. Any scientist can go to Gettysburg's battlefield at night and prove the existence of strange things in real science experiments. There is also no way that multiple people could imagine the same thing and be able to describe the events in detail. This was a group of teachers, not a group of students that could be trying to get attention. Some of the teachers actually quit their jobs after this event. Now, how would you scientifically explain this?
  4. That is exactly what my theory was about. Sleep is a much better example than when I said you don't wait billions of years to be born. I wish I had thought of that. Anyway, another way to state my theory is to say that time moves instantly when a human mind is not conscious. If you could sleep for millions of years, a lot of things will probably change after you wake up. However, it all happened instantly because your mind wasn't conscious to slow down time.
  5. I have a new theory about how the entire timeline of the existence of the universe happens almost instantly. Everything from the beginning to the end of the universe happens so quickly that time itself is not measurable without our minds. Our lives are part of the timeline that has been slowed down by our brains. If there were no intelligent brains to slow down the speed of time, everything would seem to happen instantly. Think about the fact that you never waited billions of years to be born. Time itself is change. When the slightest movement of an object occurs, this is a frame of time. The detection of time of our brains creates our reality, in something that I call, "waiting time". This is the imaginary spaces of time between the frames of time in which events occur. Without waiting time, every event in the universe's timeline would happen one after another. There would be nothing in between the events that happen in our universe, and there would be no way to see what happens between the beginning and the end. I really can't explain how our brains add events to create waiting time between events. However if you think about it, it seems obvious that if we weren't here, there would be no way to detect time between events that happen. Please let me know what you think about my theory. Thank you.
  6. Thank you for your reply. I looked inside the computer, and there is a fan on the bottom of the power supply. It is taking the hot air, moving it through the power supply, and then out the computer through another fan that is at the back of the power supply. I saw some AMD cooling system designs, and it says that a fan on the bottom of the power supply helps keep the CPU at a lower temperature. However, all of the designs show a rear cooling fan, which this computer does not have. It looks like there is a place for the rear cooling fan to go, because there is a vent on the back of the computer. However, there is no fan attached. Do you think that the power supply unit's fans would be enough to keep the computer from overheating?
  7. I have worked inside many computers, and all of them have a cooling fan for the CPU. There is normally a plastic piece that directs the warm air from the processor to a vent on the back of the computer. However, all of the computers I have worked on have Pentium processors. Now, I am working on an AMD, and there is a cooling fan directly on the processor. However, there is no plastic piece connecting the fan to the vent at the back. It looks like the warm air is just blowing out inside the computer. I am trying to recover files from the computer because the hard drive crashed. The IT department of the company that owns the computer said that the hard drive probably overheated. Could this be because the warm air is blowing inside the computer, instead of going outside? I have never worked with AMD computers, so I don't know how the cooling systems are supposed to be designed. One more question, the longer to computer runs, the darker the picture becomes on my monitor. I know that there is nothing wrong with the monitor because it works fine with my own computer. Could this be a sign of the system overheating, or could this be another issue? Please let me know. Thank you.
  8. ZoneAlarm is a popular security firewall that is believed to be one of the best security systems available. A few days ago, all ZoneAlarm products on thousands of computers suddenly shut down. It was later announced that Zone Labs, the creators of ZoneAlarm attempted to run a background automatic update to their software, and failed. After they realized that all of their customers' firewalls had crashed, they ran another background automatic update that fixed the problem. Nobody that used the firewall was aware that their software was being updated. The fact that ZoneAlarm products were shutdown on so many computers made me realize how bad the security is on Zone Labs products, Microsoft Windows, and even hardware firewalls. First, it appears that Zone Labs is capable of making large changes to your computer without your permission. To be able to make these changes to my computer, Zone Labs got past a hardware firewall built into my router, Microsoft Windows security, and Microsoft AntiSpyware. Microsoft AntiSpyware is supposed to notify a user if any application or person makes a large change to a computer. I was not notified when Zone Labs sneaked several compressed folders into the directory "C:/Windows/Internet Logs". After that, it proceeded to extract these files into the TrueVector service which is contained in the folder "C:/Windows/System32". This is the main Windows XP folder, and it is supposed to be under heavy protection by the operating system. Can you imagine what would happen if someone hijacked the Zone Labs servers, and put a virus into the operating system's main folders? Thousands of computers could have their hard drives erased. Why was Zone Labs capable of getting past Windows and my hardware firewall? I never configured either one to allow Zone Labs to get past them. If Zone Labs can do this, couldn't other hackers? This is obviously a huge security issue in products that were once believed to be very secure.
  9. I don't think that many things could have changed. The motor wouldn't warm up very much after rotating for only a few seconds. Also, the amount of electricity going into the motor is very precise. I forgot the exact RPM of a CD player, but the CD always turns at that exact speed. If the battery is drained to the point where the motor can't turn at that exact RPM, the player tells you to replace the batteries. I don't understand why the laser would take a different amount of time to read the CD, because the player's programming uses the exact same instructions every time the lid is closed. I guess I can't align the CD exactly each time, but I don't see how the slightest difference in alignment could make the CD rotate a different number of times.
  10. When you put a music CD in my portable CD player, the CD starts spinning so the player will know if a CD is in there or not. It also reads the index on the CD so it knows how many songs are on the CD. This process takes a few seconds, and when it is done the CD stops spinning until you press the play button. What I find interesting is the number of times the CD rotates during this process. The player performs the same simple instructions every time you put in a CD and close the cover. However, the CD appears to rotate differently each time. To prove this, put a CD player similar to mine on a flat surface, and have the player facing you. Put a CD in, and have the text on the CD facing you so you can read it easily. Now, close the lid and let the player check the CD. When it is done spinning, open the lid and look at the text on the CD. It may be turned sideways, upside-down, or in the same direction as when you first put the CD in. If you take the CD out, and then repeat the process again without changing anything, the text on the CD will probably be pointed in a different direction each time you repeat the process. According to science, wouldn't the properties of either the player or the CD had to have changed for this to happen? How can something different happen each time when the properties of the objects don't change? Please let me know your opinion. Thank you.
  11. I am running Windows XP and I haven't found an application that can't run on the computer. Of course, since I have a new computer, I don't want to put a lot of money into the old one. I just have the old one doing different things, so I like to keep them both. So far, opening the window seems to work. However, I don't know what I will do when it is hotter outside than inside.
  12. I have an older Pentium II desktop computer. It gives off a lot more heat than my new computer, but it doesn't seem to show any signs of overheating. I guess this is normal, but the problem is that the computer is in my bedroom. After the Pentium II is running for a few hours, my bedroom is much warmer than the rest of the house. This is nice in the winter time, but in the summer my room can get above 85 degrees Fahrenheit. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make the computer give off less heat. I don't think a larger cooling system would work because I am trying to keep the room cooler, not inside the computer. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you.
  13. I have a Compaq Presario X1000 laptop computer, and I was wondering how durable it is. I posted about this in the computer forum, and they said it was something like: vibration: 0.5G at up to 200Hz shock: 23G faired square wave with velocity changes of up to 508cm/sec I don't know what this means, and I was wondering what a real life comparison would be. None of the people in the computer forum knew, and they said to ask about it here. Does anyone have a comparison? For example, is this like being in the trunk of a car, or falling down stairs? Please let me know. Thanks.
  14. This is all in the manual of my computer. I don't really know what that means. Can you give a comparison? For example, is it like being in a car, or being dropped down stairs? Please give a real life comparison. Thank you.
  15. I was wondering how durable laptop computers are. I have a Compaq Presario X 1000, which is a good laptop. The reviews on Compaq laptops gave them a good durability rating, but how durable is that? If I was using my laptop in a car, and the car hit a bump, could it cause the hard disk to skip and delete an important file? How fragile are the components in a laptop? I always carry my laptop in a case, but I was just wondering how durable they are.
  16. Homestead isn't a free host anymore. They are actually really good, and provide great space and bandwidth along with great software to build the sites. The software has an application where you enter HTML code. You can paste or type HTML code, and the program will automatically put the HTML code on the web page. I've successfully placed HTML for banner ads on my site using this method. For some reason, it just doesn't respond to the frame codes. I guess I will ask Homestead about this. Thank you all for your help.
  17. Thanks, but that code doesn't seem to work. I've tried tons of different codes that are listed on different web sites, but none of them do anything. I am using Homestead, and I copy-paste HTML code into the site editor. I don't really know HTML, but I just need a code that will allow me to have different boxes on my web page, and each box with another web site in it.
  18. I need a simple frame code in HTML that works. I want to be able to load several web sites on my web site in smaller boxes. I found frame codes on the Internet, but none of them seem to work. I would appreciate your help. Thank you.
  19. This is interesting. I work inside computers to upgrade hard drives, and install CD Burners, and things like that. Is there any way I can be contaminated by anything?
  20. So, what are the chances of the toxic chemicals leaking out? Does it happen quite often, or is it very rare? If for some reason anything does start leaking out, should I take it back if it is still under warranty, or will I have to put the laptop in some type of special container? Can some of these chemicals get into the air, or am I ok as long as I don't touch any of it? I haven't seen anything leaking out, I'm just wondering what I should do if it does.
  21. I read that the LCD screens in laptop computers contain phosphor powder, mercury, and other chemicals. What are the chances of this stuff leaking out? Do you think it could be a health or environmental hazard? Everyone thought CFCs were safe until they started leaking out of things and destroying the ozone layer. I know that phosphor powder and mercury are toxic, but what are the chances of them escaping from my computer? Would I notice if they start leaking out?
  22. I was wondering if you needed a screensaver for LCD monitors, like the ones in laptop computers? My school had some of the old CRT monitors, and they didn't have any screensavers on them. Now the desktop is actually burned into the screen. If you load an application, you can still see the desktop in the background. Could this happen to LCD monitors too?
