What is the world record for the largest number ever created on a computer? Maybe I could beat that record.
-
I just ran the equation 1+1 one trillion times. Then I grouped it all together as one number. For example, it goes 12345678910111213141516 and it keeps going for a very long time. The computer is still calculating it. I think I will run out of hard drive space before it gets to a trillion. Now, I have no way to open it! What about virtual RAM?

It is a really big number I had the computer calculate. The computer saved it in a text file. The file is over 100 GB and I only have 1 GB of RAM. It is too big for Notepad or Word. When I double click on it, it tries to open it in Notepad, then it displays an error message. Does anyone know how to open it?

Does anyone know how to quickly open a huge .txt file? A text file that is over 100 GB?

First of all, I would like to apologize about the argument over what topic this thread should be in. I suppose some people think aliens are completely fictional, and not scientific. However, I believe that aliens are just as scientific as the big bang theory, black holes, or anything else that scientists can't 100% explain. I feel that this is the correct topic for this thread, and if anyone disagrees, I apologize and I do not wish to argue about this anymore. I'm sure the Europeans killed less advanced civilizations because of the fact that they were the most advanced. No matter how advanced the aliens may be, I'm sure they would still be hostile to life that is far less advanced than them. Humans do this today with other forms of life. Most people would step on a bug without thinking twice. When humans need more resources, most companies would go into forests and other natural habitats without thinking about animals. What if the aliens are so advanced that they think we are animals?

So, if you hear about a star that collapsed into a black hole, would you post about it in General Medicine because you think the star was sick? As you can see, you are not making any sense. If aliens aren't about astronomy, tell me what they are about.
-
Please explain. How do you know they will be different just because they are from another planet? How is it not? Aliens would be coming from another planet in space. The study of space, planets, and any life out there is astronomy.

Most scientists agree that if any aliens visit us, they would be more advanced than us. The scientists also say that they aliens would probably not be hostile. However, humans have a long history of being hostile to civilizations that are less advanced than them. When Europeans first started going to Africa, they found African tribes with less technology. As a result, the Europeans took the Africans, and made them slaves. When Europeans first started going to America, they began killing the Native Americans. Then they took their land, and made them live on little reservations. As you can see, humans have had a long history of being hostile to civilizations less advanced than them. What makes you think the aliens won't be the same way?

I think hard disks have always connected to the motherboard using IDE cables. You could probably take one of the first hard disks and connect it to a new computer's motherboard. The only difference is the type of file system the files are saved as. This can be changed when you format the hard disk. I know Windows 98 used FAT32, and Windows XP uses NTFS. I also know that Windows XP can read a FAT32 and NTFS hard disk, but Windows 98 can't read a NTFS hard disk. Now, I'm not sure how many formats there have been, or which ones Windows XP can read. However, if your motherboard has an empty IDE connector, you should have no trouble connecting a really old hard disk to a new computer if the old hard disk still works.

In the other layer of the universe, there would be different sized black holes. The largest stars would be linked to the largest black holes. Asking why the black holes don't suck themselves up is like asking why the stars don't burn themselves up.

Thank you, I don't know how I can prove this theory, but I can't think of any reason why it is not possible. The white holes are the stars. For every star in this layer of the universe, there would be a black hole in the other layer of the universe. For every black hole in this layer, there would be a star in the other layer. We are feeling the effects of the black hole. We are receiving the light and energy that is getting pulled into the wormhole from the other layer of the universe.

They were not looking for eachother. They were in World War II. They were each flying to the enemy country. Each one crashed on a different day. In fact, the oldest plane that was found in that spot crashed about a year before the newest plane that was found in that spot. It was really weird. They were talking about it on a show that was on either the history or discovery channel.

If you think every car with a microprocessor is a luxury car, you must drive a lawnmower. Since the 80's cars have used microprocessors to control certain parts of the engine. Now, almost all cars have microprocessors to control anti-lock brakes, power steering, and much more.

Yes, but if a star in our galaxy exploded, it wouldn't matter how close the star is to us. It would still do the same amount of damage to the galaxy. You are saying that if a star in the galaxy explodes 50,000 light years away, it would not wipe out the galaxy. However, if the same star explodes 10 light years away, it would wipe out the galaxy. That doesn't make sense because the star is still inside the galaxy and the explosion is at the same magnitude.
-
I thought the explosion was in our galaxy.

My laptop is small and it has a CD-R and CD-RW burner. It doesn't have a floppy disk drive. In fact, when I was looking in the stores, I didn't see any new computers without a CD-R and CD-RW burner.
-
The problem with this theory is how strange the crashes are. For example, about five World War II planes were found on the ocean floor. The strange thing is that they were all very close together, and each crash happened on a different day. That should say that there is something special about that specific area inside the triangle. I don't know whether or not it is a gateway to another world, or a heavy concentration of methane gas. Neither has been proven incorrect, so it would be unscientific to rule out one or the other.

Has anyone thought that maybe something like this could have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs?

Thank you for the information. I once had a CD-R fall apart a few days after I burned it. It looked perfect when I first burned it, and I never did anything that damaged it, but the metal layer on the top of the disc began to get bubbles in it. A day later, it completely separated from the plastic part of the disc. The disc was made by the same company that made all the other CD-Rs I've burned. I've never had any of the other CD-Rs fall apart and I've had some of them for years.

What I am saying is that a human with a mutation is normally mentally or physically disabled. There never seems to be major mutations in humans that benefit the person.

I had a pile of old floppy disks that I hadn't used in a while. When I put them into my computer, I found that most of the data was either gone or corrupt. Does the data on a floppy disk always go bad after several years? Also, how long does the data on a hard disk last before disappearing or becoming corrupt? What about the data on a CD-R or a CD-RW?
-
You make it sound like the ape said, "Ok, I'm going to have a baby ape that will be mutated and survive better in this new habitat." I don't think the apes would have any control over mutations of their baby apes. If they did mutate, it would be random. Then the ape would probably have something wrong with it and not survive. Whenever a human is born with a type of mutation, they are normally disabled. I've never heard of a mutated human that is better than other humans. What makes you think this happens to animals?

Ok, the parallel black holes would be in a whole different layer of the universe. In the other layer, there would be the same number of black holes as the number of stars in this layer. The wormhole connecting the two layers would be in a different dimension, so the white hole would still look spherical in the dimensions that we can see.

I really don't see any use for a floppy disk drive. You can boot a computer from a CD-ROM and format a new HD. If you want to save data on something portable, you can use a CD-RW. They can be erased, and hold a lot more data than a floppy disk. Also, floppy disks tend to lose some of their data after several years. CD-RWs are believed to last much longer.
