  1. I'm wondering if theres still a chance that I can moderate. I have all these ideas about things, I've pretty much shared the majority of them by this point. If I have the ability to moderate, I'd like a linguistics section to be available that I can moderate. I'd really love to be involved in this site and I think that I understand the concepts of linguistics more than the average joe. I've also scored extremely high on an iq test and I'm willing to take another one to prove that I'm good for the position. I promise that I will do nothing more than moderate for this particular site, and if I do want to share my ideas, I will seek guidance and revision before I post. I'm also going to look into the option of working for the science channel. In any case, thanks for the consideration. I look forward to speaking with you guys.
  2. Worlds biggest list and worlds biggest dictionary.
  3. The biggest list and the biggest dictionary of all time. This list and dictionary are so big that theres absolutely, positively, no chance of even looking at them. Not even a supercomputer could print this list out for you. I shouldn't even mention the dictionary. If you were to look at ONE ENTRY in this dictionary, the best computer in the world would crash. Give me a quantum computer, it will probably still crash just trying to look at these things. I call the list ' knowledge', and I call the dictionary ' time'. Just because knowledge and time are so big doesn't mean that they are not useful though, it just means that we, as humans, will never be able to look at them, there is simply no chance of us looking at them. Even if we managed to look at them, it's going to be completely uninteresting. Uninteresting and incomprehensible. I realized this yesterday.
  4. I love the universe and the reality in which I live. It's not always easy to be a part of this thing, whatever it is, but I respect it with faith, whole heartedly, because this thing is the reason that I am alive and even able to contemplate these matters. I consider myself very educated, and highly capable of creative inquiry. Sometimes it may not seem that I am "willing to be puzzled"(chomsky), but I have found absolutely, not even one shred, no evidence that can support the claim that god does or does not exist. In fact, in light of recent scientific inquiry, I think that it is more plausible that a creator exists, but I cannot prove it. I know of the many worlds hypothesis, and to combine that hypothesis with statistics is mind blowing to me (to say the least). Given my research in computation, I would have to say that there is at least a 50% chance that god exists, a 30% chance that he/she is already dead, and a 20% chance that I've already known this several times but I am unaware. 5. I think you guys would appreciate the conversions I could record for you. I think it would be nice to have them for data purposes. If I find a way other than using mobile applications, I'll use it. I mean, if I find a way to upload them without too much hassle, I will.
  6. Bullshit. No. I'd be ashamed if that were true
  7. I got a new post brewing up about pronouncing yourself a tribal citizen to get around some of the property laws. Next time I will blog posts like these
  8. How do you have 13.5k posts? Are you a science ninja? 80
  9. Hey everyone, I haven't been posting lately and right now I have some alone time sitting in front of my computer (which I absolutely love to do) so I figured, why not? I'm just going to post. Today I went to the nature trails at our state park here in Michigan and let me tell you, it was very beautiful. I love walking these trails. It might actually be my favorite thing to do in this area. Well, after that, I decided that I wanted to sit down and meet one of my best friends moms for the first time. This woman, she is awesome, honestly, after a few years of getting to know her son and thinking that she was like satan, it turns out that she is actually a very, very smart person. I enjoyed being in her presence. One thing about today though is that I did not eat very much. On my way to the park, I realized that I was probably going to be there for a little while and that I haven't eaten yet, so I decided that I would stop and grab an energy bar. It was a Clif bar. Those type of energy bars actually satisfy the need to eat, and I don't have a very big stomach so it helped me get through until around 8 when I was finally able to eat one of my favorite foods, a chicken quesadilla from Taco Bell (lol). And on top of that, my friends mom ended up buying it for me! The one thing about the talk with my friends mom is that she is obviously a genius (one of the few who live in this area), but she was interdisciplinary in her studies (she knew about physics and linguistics [speaking probably 6-8 languages]) but she mostly concerned herself with Psychology. I have to admit, I'm not the type of person who is interested in Psychology, I've always felt as though it is a tool that people use to degrade others and classify them accordingly (which takes any sense of uniquity out of the equation). So, during our conversation, I let her know that I have studied a lot about Neuro-Linguistic Programming (which she is an absolute pro at) but that I have abandoned that philosophy for reasons that she completely understood. One reason was that ignorance is bliss, and I think that it truly is. Some things are just better not to know, and all this nonsense about picking up chicks and subtle ques is all a hindrance to actual communication (which she completely agreed with). We both came to the conclusion that thinking about these things while talking with people dehumanizes the experience. It's like it becomes some sort of game, and I think that a lot of us have come to realize that life is not a game. Anyway, I ended up helping them set up tables for a wedding reception (which is a first for me), and it turns out that A LOT of people that she works with and who are in her family have also studied these sorts of things! I can't believe that I actually felt at one point that there was no one I could relate with on this topic! I actually thought that no one else had ever taken the time to read books on how to change behavior and how to pick up members of the opposite sex. Well, I've come to realize by this point in my life exactly how wrong I am. These people are actually very easy to pick out of a crowd. I'm not judging though, and I'm definitely not in the business of analyzing behavior. So I'm going to leave that one be. At this point, I've come to realize that life, and happiness, is not a destination, it's a way of doing things. It really opened up my eyes when I read that quote on facebook the other day, and it put my mind at peace. Well, back to his mom, my friend, one of my best friends, dated this girl who played it off absolutely perfectly. She was the best girl. "She was the ideal girl, every guy wants a girl like this, how could you not compare the following girls and judge them against her," his mom said to me. Well, this is why I decided that it was time to meet this woman. It turns out that that girl, my friends ex, was an absolute sociopath. His mom said that "it's rare to find a teenager that you couldn't classify as a sociopath, [but this one was different]". Well, this girl was calling my friends mom and making threats that she was going to "break him" and that she was going to "bring him down [to the point to where he would kill himself]". Well, she was smart enough TO RECORD their conversations on the phone! She was holding it from my friend for so long too! They were done and my friend was absolutely destroyed because of this girl. Well, she finally got around to showing him the recordings of HER VOICE saying those things! It was a HUGE weight lifted off of his shoulders. He is in a much much much better mood now and his life is actually coming together! I can't even express how happy I truly am to see him becoming a normal person again! Needless to say, I gained A LOT of respect for that woman when I heard about this. It was nice to actually be able to sit and chat with her, but, as I said earlier, by that point in the day, all I had eaten was a Clif bar, and as I also mentioned, I'm not one to dabble around in the science of Psychology. Needless to say, she blew my mind several times. I was exhausted after talking with this woman. But, I mustered up the energy to finish the day, get the job done, and finally get some food, which I was very grateful for. Well, now it's the end of the day, and I want to learn some science, so my current google search is "uber science facts". This was a pretty interesting read (http://uber-facts.com/2013/02/23/scientists-are-working-on-telekinetic-tattoos/). I might post more later.
  10. I was watching through the wormhole last night and I think one scientist on the show said it best. "as a scientist, it's not really my place to say whether god exists or not, [it's a matter of faith and belief]"
  11. I'm going to star on a tv show on the science channel called "the linguist" where I go to remote languages and learn them with my trusty camera crew... But, only if morgan freeman says ok. I'll be waiting in the meantime

    2. Mike Smith Cosmos

      Mike Smith Cosmos

Great news. get a video of the appearance and put it on the net. or if not by a PM . Mike

  12. The droplet is silicon which is significantly more viscous than the water it is bouncing on. You can also cure the silicon to make it more solid.
  13. I came up with a solution to the problem of using forgetfulness for efficiency purposes. Im excited to implement it in my program, but I would like to hear your thoughts on how quickly certain molecules and proteins decay. Thanks for the input!

  14. Omg it just clicked in my head. Units of knowledge have algebraic properties. The units are added in time and given a location in the ordered set. Whenever the units are prompted, they lose a portion of their strength due to decay. When the strength reaches zero, the unit gets deleted from memory. Problem solved. This will make the system MUCH more efficient when it goes online. Even if it's not the right conclusion, it doesn't matter... because it's a good solution.
  15. I need to get a new perspective on this problem because I'm going to be talking with professionals to get my program on the internet shortly. The problem is that the program stores ALL input in two objects, a list and a string. I'm approaching general cognition and especially language (as you can see from post #28) from a computational perspective. After stating the problem, there are a few different alternatives I can take, but at this point, these alternatives DO NOT account for forgetfulness or incorporate it in any way. Time is a complex list, called a dictionary, that accesses information that is broken apart from the rest of the information for purposes of efficiency. Without breaking it apart and putting it in separate networks, the program would be horribly inefficient, especially while having the amount of users that I anticipate it having. There is a good possibility that time will have to modify itself in a way that encapsulates forgetfulness. Knowledge is a list, not very complex, but it's the most uninteresting list you could ever look at basically. This list WILL NOT add any input that has already occurred. There is a good possibility that it will need to forget things, although it's probably best that it doesn't, but it might need to forget things. If it is ok, I can share the code so we can get a better perspective of what needs to be done.
  16. The story of me wanting a job that doesn't exist- I went to school for philosophy and linguistics and I've researched alot of linguistics. I want a job working on computers to try and get them to speak language. I look for job... Nothing. What do I do about this?
  17. I think that we can get a good grasp of behavior psychologically using mathematics, but it's going to take the right algorithm. Simply put, you need to know about the workings of the brain and of knowledge. It's not a single discipline that goes into that effort. Multiple fields are required and you need to have a firm grasp of theoretical concepts from fields like neuroscience, physics, computer science, mathematics, etc. I would think that the best mathematical tool to use for this type of study is statistics, and a hint of elementary algebra. I would think that one of the main hypotheses involved in this type of research is pattern detection, and I would also think that you would need to keep the behaviorist dogmas in mind while doing so. Conditioning is just a given, but you have to know exactly how it happens neurologically, which I think has a correlation with P600's, or positively charged electrical activity. Experiments have been done on people reading what are called "garden path sentences", where you have a parsing problem reading the sentence, and a P600 occurs when the parsing problem happens, but it can't be repeated with the same sentence. An example of one of these sentences is "the horse raced past the barn fell." I think that by using mathematics, we can gain insight into psychological disorders, but, to me, it seems more of an issue involving pragmatics than psychology.
  18. In the perfect system, people would be competing for those positions. If there was enough demand, especially in these times, people would be hiring other people to make it for themselves. You see how many freelancers there are?
  19. Ok, I'm not supporting redistribution of wealth, for reasons stated or hinted at above.
  20. So let me get this straight. You are saying this in opposition to my argument. [math]1(fist)+1(face)=you'rewrong[/math]
  21. Appealing to alpha? Bullying is illegal in america.
  22. Wow do you rage much? Calm down. You can't prove it wrong so you try to drive it into my skull? Calm down.
  23. That is an argument of incredulity. Your posts don't make enough sense.
