Hmmm.... Not considered by whom? An interpretation of an interpretation? I'm not even sure what that means... There is one theory that explains it fully. With no mysteries.
-
Choose your interpretation: many worlds, Copenhagen, pilot wave, etc. etc. These are all fairy tales to answer people who ask "how" so you can choose whichever appeals. Or make up your own. It makes no difference to the theory or what happens. We don't actually know what the photon does between the source and the detector. And if you change the experiment to find out, then you no longer have an experiment that can produce an interference pattern. But we do know that you either see a whole photon or no photon (ditto electrons). Yes they do. Well, not surprisingly, they don't behave like that because they are not waves in water tank. They don't behave like elephants riding motorbikes, either. That is a good analogy

Yes. Space-time can be defined in the absence of any matter, energy, objects, etc. It is one thing. All four dimensions depend on the other three. The observer observes the 2nd object moving relative to herself. Space and time would still exist, even if there was no way to measure them. (See first reply above) Space-time requires 4 dimensions.

The Way I-try Views Energy [Split from The Essence of Energy]
Strange replied to I-try's topic in Speculations
I was just pointing out a couple of basic mathematical facts, which should be independent of "level of reality"; maths is universally true. -
Rather ironic you should say that after this:

Will you please stop posting random quotations with no explanation.

Oh, for God's sake. The first appears to be unsourced rumour "Scientists claim..." on a site full of dubious (at best) claims. The second is reasonable: lead pipes are a Bad Thing. The third looks as dubious as the first but says that plastic may be your best bet. Not that I would trust them as they mention cyanide in bamboo shoots (true) in connection with bamboo pipes (not true). The fourth talks about the possible toxic effects of large doses of iron. It states that the level of iron from pipes is well below the recommended minium maximum. The final line is "No health-based guideline value for iron is proposed." So, we can conclude that lead plumbing should be avoided. Shock news, indeed.
-
I wish I had said that!
-
Can you show that the use of copper or plastic pipes are a health hazard? Well, by evaporating the water. If by "desalinated water" you mean not having any water, then maybe ...
-
And it was used for millennia for plumbing (the clue is in the name) with no ill effects because it soon gets coated in a protective layer of insoluble oxides, etc. That is for making salt, not purifying water.

Electrons (and photons) are quanta or fundamental. Part of the electron or photon cannot be left behind. When you consider light classically, then clearly some will get through the slits, some will be absorbed and some reflected. But any individual photon (or electron) can only follow one of those routes ... with a probability that reproduces the classical distribution.

Which is why I responded to the OP's use of "wrong." If he had said "incomplete" then my reaction might have been "of course, but not in the way you claim". This is generally true of scientific theories. I wouldn't say Newtonian gravity is wrong - it works very well in many applications. The number of scientific theories that have turned out to be completely wrong are very few and far between. Phlogiston might be the most recent example...

You appear to have copied this entire text from here: http://www.simonsfoundation.org/quanta/20130917-a-jewel-at-the-heart-of-quantum-physics/ You have changed the first sentence to suggest that you discovered this. This is (a) copyright infringement, (b) plagiarism and © grossly dishonest.

The Way I-try Views Energy [Split from The Essence of Energy]
Strange replied to I-try's topic in Speculations
I thought it was pretty obvious: density = kg / m3 c2 = m2 / s2 Similarly force is not energy. -
In the same way that you can mark an exact spatial position. You don't consider yourself spread out though all of space, so why consider yourself spread out through time. Spacetime is a coordinate system, therefore you can mark any position and call it "now". Of course, you can choose any position and label it "now" or "then" or Fred". But so what? There is nothing special about the word or concept "now". I don't see why. Our mind integrates signals from various sources and creates the impression of time passing. Not unlike the frames of a film analogy that you mentioned. You are simply asserting that this does not make sense logically. You certainly haven't shown this to be true. This sounds a bit like Zeno's Paradox. And we all know how bogus that is. By that argument, nothing could ever change. But things do change over time. Including the information stored in our brains. That change creates the sense of time passing. For example, how is this different from a camera recording a series of images over time: How can it do that if spacetime is fixed!?!? Simply because at each point along its path in spacetime, it contains different information. Just like we do. The camera interprets that as an MPEG file or whatever, we interpret it as the illusion of a continuous present.
-
I can't argue with any of that. All theories are "wrong" in that they are provisional, limited in their domain of applicability, etc. It is, however, not as grossly wrong (and inconsistent) as the OP would like to believe.

There is an entertaining article by Underwood Dudley, who has written a lot about math cranks, on some of the "trisectors" he has communicated with. http://www.ufv.ca/media/faculty/gregschlitt/information/WhatToDoWhenTrisectorComes.pdf Several of the traits of these people will be familiar... I recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/Mathematical-Cranks-Spectrum-Underwood-Dudley/dp/0883855070

Different senses and signals from different parts of the body are delayed by vastly different amounts. What we think of as "now" is spread out over almost one second.

Does running make it more likely to be hit by lightning?
Strange replied to MirceaKitsune's topic in Physics
And if you are running, you are probably running towards shelter. And that shelter, being large, is more likely to be hit. The best strategy might be to lie flat on the ground (and sob quietly). -
All you are saying is that the future is predetermined and there is no free will. I don't see what it has to do with spirituality. (I'm not even sure what you mean by that? Communing with the dead?) That is a complete non-sequitur; it doesn't follow from (or even relate to) anything you said before. Why would it require another external consciousness? How is that consciousness able to perceive time to flow if we can't? Yay! Word games!

Does running make it more likely to be hit by lightning?
Strange replied to MirceaKitsune's topic in Physics
Maybe they extrapolated from the claim that you will get wetter if you run in the rain (which is true ... sort of). -
As relativity is not wrong, it is clear that you have made one or more errors. Perhaps you should learn a little humility and ask for help, rather than repeatedly embarrassing yourself in front of the the whole world!

Pressure will change physical properties like boiling point, and may affect the equilibrium of some reactions. But I am not aware of any more fundamental effects on chemistry. It seems unlikely as the effect of gravity on electron orbitals will be insignificant. This might happen in really extreme circumstances, like the surface of a neutron star but not on Earth - or anywhere in the solar system, I suspect.

Kramer on energy (hijacked from "What exactly is energy?")
Strange replied to Kramer's topic in Speculations
They are NOT "assertions" (I might forgive you as English is not your first language. But it needs to be said, anyway.) An assertion is a statement with no supporting logic or evidence. (Something you should be familiar with. ) What is there to explain? It is a meaningless equation. -
Even if that is true, it would take more energy than that to create it. Edit: it isn't true. Annihilating 5kg of matter and 5kg of antimatter would produce about 10^18 J. Which is about the "yearly electricity consumption of South Korea as of 2009" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orders_of_magnitude_%28energy%29
