Still. Very. Funny.

This is one of the funniest pieces I have read in a long time, so I thought I'd share! http://www.guru-international.com/gday_mate/archives/2005/01/01/if-kerry-had-won#2633

One thimble full of plutonium is enough to give everyone on earth cancer!

You guys must be massive over there!!!

Its fine to keep the machines/ threads etc you have now, just call them by their metric measurements and eventually everything else will follow. Temperatures, weights, energy, long distances etc can easily be converted without adversely affecting the profits of the companies. In the long run it'll be worth it - just look at every other country!
-
I believe that the US is one of only two countries that still officially uses the imperial system (the other is Libya or similar). If the US would convert to metric it would make life easier for everyone. It wouldn't be popular, but in two generations I suspect the old system would all but be forgotten. Not to mention it would be easier to teach because it is all in base 10 and nearly all of the simple units are related (mostly by water). My mother and fathers' generation converted when they were in school and they haven't had any trouble adjusting to metric. I suspect that another reason the US doesn't want to change is that it wouldn't like anything invented by the French!

I never said Australia was any better!! Although a different kettle of fish to terrorism law, Australia's policy on asylumn seekers is also disgusting beyond believe. But then again you get that with right wing governments
-
Holding anyone against their will, at any time, for any reason, without charge should be a violation of international law!!!!!! It is absolutely disgusting!!! If they have evidence that they committed a crime then charge them! If not they should have no right to violate that person's human rights. These laws enacted in the UK and to a much worse extent in the US are designed so the government can violate human rights without being held accountable. It is a gross neglect of power! !!!! !

Ditto to both of the above. The Ksp however is temperature dependent so you are better off adding excess salt and using the solution in contact with the undissolved salt.

This is an interesting question. Can the intensity of the sound the person actually hears be affected by the sound waves interferring with each other?

Speaking of asteroids, there was a meteorite shower visible in Australia last night from the tail of a comet that orbits the sun every 1.4 years. Did anyone see it?

Countries that refuse US immunity 'face aid cuts'

Has any US citizen ever been convicted of a war crime? (not trying to be offensive, I really don't know) -

I think its commendable to those countries who are at least trying to do something to bring war criminals to justice. I don't agree agree with the path of action that says the problem is too hard so we'll ignore it. Why is the USA asking for immunity in the first place? I'll hazard a guess and say that they know they are committing war crime and will commit them in the future and are scared of being branded hypocrites. -

That is, at least, a good start. I think everyone would agree that all civilised countries should eventually join the ICC. -
I would most definitely have to disagree! In Australia, pseudoscience is pushed as fact on the television and radio, with things such as magnetic blankets and pillows (amongst other things) and magic (or energy) water. The gullible masses are buying these in enormous quantities and are believing the rubbish "science" that goes along with it. The people selling these things are almost certainly making a fortune.

The following article is from the Sydney Morning Herald today: http://www.smh.com.au/news/World/Countries-that-refuse-US-immunity-face-aid-cuts/2004/12/10/1102625502044.html What do people think? Personally I think this policy is absolutely dispicable. Why shouldn't the US be subject to the same rules as the rest of the civilised world in terms of war crimes?

Creed gets hacked on a fair bit in Australia. Their stuff is a favourite of super-commercial radio stations which makes them quite unpopular with a lot of people. (Matchbox 20 is the other favourite of these stations)

I was being tongue in cheek, and I proly didn't word that properly. Apologies

A man is pulled over for speeding and when the policeman ask why he was going so fast the man tells him that he was late to work. "What do you do for a job" asks the policeman. "I'm a rectum expander" replies the man. Confused, the policeman asks the man to explain what a rectum expander does. "Well, people come to to have their rectums expanded" explains the man. "I put a device in that stretches the rectum gradually, and over many sessions the rectum gets bigger and bigger, until eventually they have a six foot hole" Starting to get suspicious the policeman asks,"What do they do with a six foot ar**hole" "Well" the man says, "they put him in a uniform and give him a speed gun!" (edit= sorry guys, I've just realised this joke is already on the thread)

Does anyone know where I can get a Darwin Fish avatar?
-
Any person, scientist or religious, can see that some of the original concepts suggested in the Origin of Species by C. Darwin were not exactly right. Some of the minor details of his theory have changed as we have seen improvements in various scientific methods eg genetic testing. This is why science is so much better than religion. It allows a theory to evolve (pardon the pun) and improve as better data is recovered. The basic idea that natural selection shapes the evolution of the species, however, still stands and has in fact been reinforced by modern science.
-
Don't get me wrong, I completely believe that the theory of evolution (or a slight variation of it) is correct. What I was trying to emphasise was that I would be happy to hear out anyone who has a contrary view on the subject, as long as the rejection of evolution has absolutely nothing to do with "the word of God". FYI, I have a geology background and have seen much supporting material for the evolutionary process, and one of my pet projects is discrediting people who try to explain stratigraphic formations in terms of "Flood geology"
