    Degrees

Right now I'm in the biology program at Columbus State University, but next year I plan to transfer over to the University of Georgia and try for the B.S.B.E program, not sure if it's the same as yours NSX. This program requires more credit hours then all the other programs, and even more than my schollarship will pay for, should I worry about this? Or should I just get a regular old B.S in biology? here is the link
  2. In the next 1000 years I don't think we will have changed that much biologically, but I do think in the future we will see alot more of human/computer interfaces such as, synthetic limbs and microcomputers connected to the brain.
  3. Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've posted but here is my schedule for this semester. English, Chem and bio with lab, history and calculus. I don't know if anyone remembers me but I posted here last year when I was still in highschool. So far I love college infinitely more than highschool!
  4. I see ghost all the time, they are always telling me my future and speaking in tongues.
  5. I give it about 10 years or less. I'm just curious, How many of you think that in the future A.I. robots will kill all humans? How many of you think this would be a bad thing?
  6. have they built a machine that can create an exact duplicate of itself?
  7. I have no problem learning (seemingly) useless stuff. It's just how my school attempts to teach things. Take for example the last 2 weeks in my economics class. I come in and on the board it writes "read chapter 17 do section reviews 1-5" we have covered around 8 chapters in two weeks, and I know for a fact no one in the class took the time out to read the chapters. The teacher just sits there and let's everyone copy everyone's answers. What the fuck is this? I hate school. Oh yea and the test are even more pathetic. We had a 100 question open book test. While everyone was working so hard copying each others papers I leisurely wrote 100 made up bullshit answers. I received a 100 on this test. He didn't even bother to look at the answers. You should of read some of the answers I wrote they were ridiculous. Why can't the teachers just say read the damn chapters and have the students take a challenging test? Do you guys think I should talk to the principal about this situation, I mean I don't mind getting all 100's but this is not right. I have the highest grade in the class, but only because I figured out at the beginning of the year he doesn’t even look at answers. Just let me point out that this is a CORE class needed to get a high school diploma. My other classes are even worse. I have no idea about how other schools are run, but this one disgusts me. What should I do?
  8. Is he the guy that was in Scientific American, the guy from portugal? I skimmed through that article, and from what I read the guy is just looking for attention.
  9. What are you talking about, can you even give an example of how they would make the students more creative? Creative as in ART?

    Would it be possible

Why? Why not? The idea has enormous potential. Imagine a genetically modified chicken that is basically just two huge breast BelariathsSage do a search on Craig Venter, he's the guy who owns the companies I think their talking about. I don't think they patent the genes themselves, but rather the idea of combining genes and making a new species. I read an article about the guys that tried this (I don't know if the patent went through). They are basically just some pro-Jesus bible thumpers trying to stop scientist from playing God. I can’t stand those people.

    Would it be possible

I feel ya man, who gives a shit about ethics? ............apparently a lot of people do, personally I see nothing wrong with this type of experimentation. I'm just curious, how exactly do you plan on helping this company? I'm very curious about this subject as well, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there on it. Seems like people would be all over this. I can see there would be some moral dilemmas using animals but, what about in plants? I know we have genetically modified foods, but for the most part they seem pretty tame. The GM foods we have out now just grow better and are resistant to pesticides correct? Where are all the apples the size of watermelons? Do you see where I'm going with this?
  12. I'm positive in the future there will be "thinking machines" it's just a matter of time. There is really no reason at all that it's not possible, there is no "vital force" or soul that we can't manipulate.
  13. I'm pretty sure thats what our brain does too.
  14. Welcome to the forum man, I too was going to go for a computer science degree, but I decided to get away from computers all together. EVERY one of my friends is going for a computer science degree, at my local college, they seem to hand them out. I love computers I've been messing around with them since the original DOOM, but there is just too many people going into computers, drawn in by words like "high tech" and "Technology" I swear to God everyone (white male) at my school is going that route. It might just be this way in my city, who knows? It's up to you man, do what you love.
  15. You forgot to include terminally ugly.........just kidding:D But, seriously a lot of disabled people take huge amounts of resources just to stay alive, and contribute nothing to society. If you can support yourself all power too you, but some people just need to be sent straight to heaven. I was reading a Popular Science magazine today, and there was an article about ART (accelerated reproductive technology) (I think) and it was talking with a family that had 3 children using (ART), and one had already had a defect in one of them. The mother basically DID NOT CARE about the risk it brings on her children, because she said "I just wanted a baby" I'm pro cloning, but I would have to agree with you guys about how it is not worth the risk..............we already got enough retards we don't need more. The article brought up a good point about, these people that are trying to have kids together and have to resort to ART to have kids. That all the studies and the statistics on all the defects of the test tube babies have mostly been seen on incompatible parents. Meaning these parents that can't reproduce might just have overall bad genes, and shouldn't even be having kids in the first place. You guys have any thoughts about this?
  16. As far as I can remember I don't recall wanting to be anything other than a scientist. A lot of movies sparked my interest, like "The Island of Dr. Moreau" and "Jurassic Park". Also I read a lot of science fiction, I remember in the third grade I read a few books based on the DOOM (computer game) series, Lol its funny cause thats all I remember about the third grade.
  17. My definition for human beings applies not only to myself, but also for every other type of animal on this planet. I know people don't see themselves as machines, because in most cases, it tends to be taken as an insult. I don’t think of my "beliefs" (as you put it) to be beliefs at all, but simple observations. A clone should have about as much say into the way he was brought into this world as any other child (which is none). Yes, a deformity may occur, what can I say, shit happens; something can go wrong with any child birth. Simply dispose of the infant, learn from your mistakes, and try again.
  18. I agree with you 100% fafalone, a lot of the people that are against cloning still think humans are something special, but the fact is we are just very complex organic machines, that can be altered, duplicated, and manipulated.
  19. I just want to let everyone know that I have won the USAA National Mathematics Award! I have never heard of the USAA before the other day, but believe me, I was honored. I think this is my first award ever!
  20. It seems as though everyone has different ways of doing simple calculations in their head, like adding multiplying, dividing. I was just wondering if any of you guys have a good method of doing this, I have been trying to decide which is the most efficient; maybe you guys can help me out. When I come across simple addition, lets say 37 + 17 I first break down the two numbers into multiples of 5, so I would figure 35+15 real quick then take the remaining numbers and add them, then add the two sums together so for me it's like 50+4=54 I can do this pretty fast but sometimes people can calculate things much faster. I also have a method for subtracting, that I will admit to be somewhat confusing and usually ends up slowing me down, but I have found it extremely hard to break the habits, because I have been doing them all my life. This is the way I have always done it, I'm just curious, if this is the way you guys do it? Does anyone have a method that works particularly well for you?
  21. I Looked this up real quick: "The incidence of profound giftedness generally occurs in the population in about one in every 10,000 people" What about the other 9,999 of us? Do we not deserve to go to college?
  22. How did you afford to go to school that long, all on scholarships? or did you pay out of your own pocket?

    My Goldfish

How long you think he will live like this? Should I go ahead and flush em?

    My Goldfish

Guys there is something wrong with my goldfish! This morning I thought he was dead, he was floating upside down at the top of the tank, but with further inspection, I noticed his eyes were following me around the room. I poked him a little, and he started moving again, I don't know what's going on! The size of his stomach has tripled in the last couple of weeks, he can’t be pregnant he lives alone! He seems to be fine, except for the fact he swims upside down now. Is this harmful? Any advice on what I should do?
