Hey, how do you know if you are growing a pathogen? I'm pretty sure that my parents wouldn't be very happy if I started growing E. Coli either. Also, Would just putting the petri dishes filled with the replacement agar in the basement work? I am an aspiring microbiologist and want to see how to grow colonies of bacteria myself.

Growing microinvertabrates is fun and easy. Simply go outside and collect some hay. Put in a dish or test tube and fill with distilled water. Observe each day as peramecium and other protazoa grow and thrive. Note: this may take a while to develop. For the first week or so you get common protazoa. My favorite lab ever!!!!!
