A snow clearing challenge for those who like them.
Dovahkiin replied to Dovahkiin's topic in The Lounge
There are all great. The tarp and winch idea is in the top 3 at the moment and the winch bucket idea is good also. I think if I was able to use a web system maybe the bucket would stay down. I am going to look into that sweeper. I had never heard of it. I live in NH so I know about snow also. The problem is you have to angle it to the side, which I cant do. I have to send it all down the end of the driveway to the road. Yeah those sweepers are good for like 2" of snow. I live in NH. I got 6 inches as a dusting the other night and tonight we are getting 2 feet. So I'm back to the drawing board. -

The city might have a problem with that... -

I was just at Lowes to get some tools and saw the propane torch that looked like a flame thrower and thought about it.... -
I have just bought a house in NH and I have a problem. There is house on either side of my drive way which is about 75 feet long. I don't really have 500 dollars to spend on a snow blower that still only blows snow maybe 15 to 30 ft. A snow plow cannot get enough clearance to push the snow out because my garage is at one end of the driveway and even the driveway is quite narrow. I know that a shovel is my only option but I figured I would put it up on here for some young genius to invent and idea. I know they make backup plows which are too expensive for me to buy also. Let me know what you guys come up with!

So my professor sucks. I feel bad about saying it but I´m like almost to the end of my course and I still understand nothing of Stoichiometry. I have a lab of just Stoich questions and I am really struggling. She gave the answers but I do not want the answers, I want to know how to do them. Anyway at the moment here is the question I am stuck on (before going on to the next ones) I´ve already balanced the equation. Al(OH)3 + 3HCL --- AlCl3 + 3H2O c. What mass of water (H2O) is produced by the reaction of 10 grams of AL(OH)3? All my attempts at anything have been wrong. I´ve done random stuff like 10g AL(OH)3 = .128 moles AL(OH)3 H2O = 18.02molecular mass Anyone help please?

They are using it as 4.180J/gC (Celsius for chemistry) 100g * 4.180J/gC * 8.8c (our rate of change) ------------------------------- 127.50g (mass) * 64.5c (final temp) I think I figured it out. I knew the first one was iron so I just played around with the problem. I did it two ways but it seemed that dividing like terms first: 100g/127.50g and then 8.8c/64.5c = (.78g) and (.14c) Then multiplying that to get: .0192g/c The multiplying that by the 4.180Jgc gives us .45 which is the Specific Heat of Iron which is the object we were working with for this problem. Thanks anyway guys!

For the life of me I cannot remember how to do this type of problem. c = (100g) (4.180j/gc) (8.8c) / (127.50g) (64.5)c I changed the numbers around so that they do not match with any assignment I have. Could someone guide me here with an example? (You can change the numbers if you do not believe me)

I went to the Lenovo forums which has type specific threads also but I think I will also post a reply in there. Thanks.

I have been trying but really I have no clue what I am even searching for. I looked at every google search option I could think of and did not get much back. I figured there would be someone around here who may have heard of this problem and have a fix for me. Thank you for the reply.

Linear Algebra and practical relations
Dovahkiin replied to Dovahkiin's topic in Linear Algebra and Group Theory
Thanks everyone. -
So last night my brother in law took my ThinkPad Lenovo t410 and did a backup of the data (It was his fathers and had some private info) When I got it back this morning and opened it..This is what I see. NOTE: I have reinstalled the drivers for the graphics card from the IBM website. I asked the system admin here at the university and he had no clue. I figured this would be the place to ask and I hope I am right. I was planning to do a complete restore next but wanted a third opinion first. Also I am not sure if the screen caps are going to come out right. All black on my laptop looks like a Green, Contrasted Gif or something. With the little green pixels all over the place. Most blue looks like a black and red pixels. EDIT had to resubmit pics from ipad screen shots. Haha first ones were fine on any other computer.

Im having some trouble finding exact practical relations to other things such as practical uses in chaos theory or astro physics in general. Can anyone tell me how linear algebra is used in chaos theory or other astro sciences?

Ok Sorry, Did not see that in the Forum rules.

Hello there DTonesXD. I am not an expert but I will research and give what I believe to be the best for this discussion. 1. Ice Comets. The problem is that Fire needs oxygen. In Space there is no Oxygen. Now when a comet gets close enough to a source of heat such as the sun we see the tail of it from earth. If it breaches earths atmosphere, it is introduced to oxygen and usually catches fire and blows up into a billion pieces. Fire need Oxygen. This is a common problem with space craft. When shuttles head out of earth they need to bring their own source of oxygen to fire the engines. So they bring fuel and oxygen (Unless it is a new class of ion engines). Cool huh? 2. Morning wood is actually night time wood. Men will get erections through out the night. It has something to do with the neurological system which causes blood to flow through the penis. It is actually a way to keep the penis healthy by keeping the oxygen flow and even repairing tissues. Oxygen again! 3. The music one I do not know but it may have something to do with neurological stimulators also. 4. No, you cannot make a spider man. I believe the Naked Scientists tried this. If you just inject a bit of spider blood or plasma into a human it will do nothing. Spiderman was bitten and the venom itself transformed him somehow. Now maybe in the future Geneticists could break both the strands of DNA down and fuse them some how but I am sure that would end up in one of those creepy ''Kill....me...'' situations. 5. I have no clue what would happen to the spider if you did that... 6. I saw this question some where else before. Basically I think what would happen is...everyone would go flying at about 1200 miles per hour. We stand still be cause of the Earths rotation. Gravity just keeps up from accelerating off the planet. If you have ever been in 0 gravity before or in a plane that does a far ascent or descent or a car that turns very fast and you go slding into the door. If there was no door you would keep flying until you hit something or gravity pulled you down. Friction is not enough to hold you so you would basically go flying off the planet I guess and then once the gravity got turned on, depending how far you made it, you would either pummel back to the earth (but explode before then) or if you had enough motion you would literally orbit the planet or until you hit something else.

I have posted this in Biology and Earth Sciences. Hi everyone I am taking a course on career exploration and one of the things I have to do is interview some people who are in careers of which I am studying for (Natural Sciences at the moment). If anyone has a moment to answer some Q's I will post them here and you can reply or PM me the answers. Thanks if you have time! What is your job? What do you like most about you job and why? How did you decide to get into this field and what steps did you take to enter the field? What alternative ways can one enter this field? What training would you recommend for someone who wanted to enter this field now? What is the salary ranger for a person in this field? Entry to top level salary? What personal qualities do you feel are most important in your work and why? What are the tasks you do in a typical workday? Would you describe them? What types of stress do you experience on the job? What types of people survive and do well in this field? Are resumes important in getting a job here? What are the opportunities for promotion? Is this field expanding? Taking any new directions? What related occupations might I investigate? Can you give me the names of three other people who share your enthusiasm for this kind of work? How can I contact them? (Optional) Is there anything else about this field that would be helpful for me to know?

Im almost done with it. I used three screws triangulated with 2x4 legs. I am still eyeballing the angles and such and will post pics shortly. I'm feeling confident.about the strength.
-
This is actually looking like the simplest and most practical design. Well the separate blocks are most convenient as for storage but I have all the materials to build this and I can even sand the angle down instead of having to make angled cuts which I cannot really do. I think this is the plan I am going to go with. Thanks Mr.Monkeybat and everyone else who gave their input! This is a great site full of great thinkers! Oh I will be honest though I am still worried about slipping but I am thinking good old fashioned duct tape may help with that. Thanks again.

So I have already taken the old earth magnets out of my REALLY old computer hard drive and now I have this printer. I was wondering, before I get rid of it, if anyone knows of any useful parts inside? I am probably not going to be building any cylons or anything anytime soon so robotic parts are less useful to me. But magnets or something like that is always fun to keep around. Anyone have any knowledge of what is good to keep from a printer before I get rid of it?

Carpentry skills are pretty good. Access to equipment is low. I have to find a way to cut angles. Though I guess even just 45 angles with two sides would work. I am going to see if I can work this out. Thanks.

Geneticists have already said they cannot bring back the Dinosaur because there is no DNA to follow. But they will be able to bring back Mammoths, Sabertooth Tigers, Dodo's and a few others. Dinosaurs are lost because we have a certain amount of time to be able to bring something back (for lack of better term). I think it is about 50,000 years or so which still leaves the option of many animals. The only thing I see bad about it is that once we do bring back some species like mammoths, they will become extinct again anyway through the climate changes on our planet or through hunting. Who the heck would not want a Wooly Mammoth blanket?!?!
-
I am also not a Paleontologist but I have always wanted to be and could possibly still veer in that direction later on. What I do know is that Jurassic Park was a recreation of the best possibly guess as to what dinos were or looked like during the Mesozoic period, according to the people working at the park. As Pwagen said, it is fiction.
-
No sorry should have clarified that too! it is one of these weighs about 150lb/68kg He needs to put it away in the storage room where with the bike every time he takes it up and down. My neighbors would sabotage or steal it most likely because they are douche bags. I am less worried about compact storage than the ability to store. It was just a note that I cannt just leave it there.
-
Sorry it is indoors. Maybe some pics will help. Ill go take some in a moment and put them up. I own and apartment in a three apartment building in Iceland so I cant really attach it. That is the main problem I forgot to mention. So it is just in the general stairwell inside. I have to be able to remove it and place it when necessary. I thought of using a ladder but I think It would still hold the problem of slipping off the top step when ascending and descending. Ill go take pics. Brb. Pics here. http://imgur.com/a/2ZlzU

Just kidding. My stepson got an electric scooter and I am trying to design a ramp to go up and down the stairs to the basement to store it overnight. I tried using just a 250cm long board but it slips on the stairs and I end up having to go and carry it up or down anyway. Any ideas on how to get it to stay the ramp/board to stay put while moving this thing up and down the stairs. I suck at Engineering obviously and any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Note: Because it is too heavy for the kid I had made it fairly long because It is easier to push it up the gradual slope then the actual height of the stairs (about 5 steps) without having to use the motor of the scooter itself to propel it.

Is it possible transfer human subconscious into a robot?
Dovahkiin replied to No Matter's topic in Amateur Science
Theoretically possible? Sure. Will it be possible in any of our lifetimes? Absolutely not. Besides, it is pretty scary to think about it and Scientifically or Socially. I wonder though, would a robot know if it had a subconscious. Would we be able to describe it and teach a robot what it is? Even creepier...what if robots, whether ones that are build in high school science labs to just roll around or more advanced ones like the DARPA proto(?) already have subconsciousness....
