I would be interested in that knowledge as well. Of course, for CS learning purposes only.

What about depression? It is not really the same as sadness, sadness often accompanies it, but depression has characteristics all its own.

Can the algebra requirement be satisfied by a HS level algebra course? If not, is there some exam you can take instead of spending a semester/year doing algebra? Should I study for such an exam before I reach college?

Just a quick thought but maybe its a case of two opposing stimuli. There's the happiness at having found a life partner, but there's also the overwhelming change. I guess that doesn't really make sense. Oh well.

what phase of humans are we?
Deified replied to TwilighterX's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Very good point Sayo. It is important to remember that the only measure of evolution is survival. Why do we consider ourselves the most successful species? They're are many many species that are far more prevalent than humans. Our pride is actually quite unjustified, we're just a bunch of egotists. Each species takes a separate route of survival. When I look at the human body, I find the poor structure quite laughable. It's like we took many wrong turns structurally, but made up for it by evolving absolutely massive brains. -

I think that when the Bible was written, it was not meant literally. The ideas are what matter. Not to mention that its unfortunate to take a poorly translated document literally. It leads to trouble.

I think darkness is a rather relative term. If you used "black" or "blackness" instead, I believe the discrepancy would go away.

Or at least they REALLY want to believe it makes perfect sense. Why don't they just view science as the study of God's creations? Why do Evolution and Creationism have to be at odds. To me, it's more amazing that a divine being could have set this miraculous (pardon the semantics) chain of events into action, than that God planned everything carefully, and designed things in such a linear and immutable way. I say, creation and evolution together form a more powerful theory than either by itself. (actually I'm an atheist, I just enjoy a good debate and frequently play devil's advocate (again, pardon the semantics))

Thats like saying everything we know about physics is false, simply because the Big Bang Theory doesn't make perfect sense. It just doesn't follow.

Thats why in programming you often seed a generator to a mildly unpredictable number, such as the number of milliseconds since the computer was booted.

What about shame? Or pride, aren't these emotions, or are they combinations of other emotions?

Are you talking about widespread contraception? If so the psychological goal would be to satisfy the urges in whatever way necessary (i.e multiple partners, masturbation, whatever) That doesn't shock me at all as I do partake in some popular culture. Perhaps I should straighten up my point. My point was not that monogamy is the norm, but that is expected to be the norm and that fact baffles me. I think that monogamy makes a lot of sense logistically for women, as in harems, where a single male would impregnate each female every year or so. This however does not allow the females genes to mingle with a variety of male genes, which is perhaps why we have the tendency to become dissatisfied with a single partner. Not to mention the emotional needs of the woman (and the man). Perhaps monogamy is a form of population control. Perhaps it is an adaptation to environments with scarce resources. Families in rural areas seem to have more children than families in crowded cities, perhaps this is a similar phenomenon. I'm a bit young to have seriously considered romantic relationships in detail, however, I can tell you, that I do not wish to own a harem. One woman suits me just fine. That is, I think, the dream of every woman. Yes, I know this is actually a rather uncommon practice, but I was low on examples. Reverse: I personally believe that surprise is just a form of shock, which is a dulling of emotions, feelings and pain. So maybe it's not its own emotion. Thank you for listening.

Coral Rhedd I believe you are overlooking one important point: Women's sex drives differ from men's not in magnitude, but in goal. Forgive me for being callus, but for a man, there is no logical reason to maintain a monogamous relationship, besides lack of partners. For a woman, a monogamous relationship makes more sense because of the period she must wait between reproductions. A man is just seeking to spread his genes over as much area as possible. It remains something of a mystery to me why we have monogamy at all in our modern western culture. It seems much more practical for each male to have multiple partners. Some cultures do this (e.g. Mormons, several tribes in Africa whose names are escaping me, etc.) not to mention many species behave in this way. So it is not necessarily that men have a bigger sex-drive than women, it just has a different goal.

Can't be antiferromagnetism, so what is it?
Deified replied to 5614's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
Its probably about ten years old, it looks almost exactly like the ones in your picture. I have been soaking it water for a few days, trying to loosen the glue, it doesnt seem to be budging. -

Well, I don't have to trust you at all, I have a similar set of magnets and metal pieces sitting in front of me. I retrieved them from my HDD as well. My preliminary tests show the same results as you. -
Why don't we all take my intelligence test now: What is intelligence? What is my favourite color? Translate the word "taugen" to Hawaiian. Using your own words, describe why I am cool. Example: fglut orewt wusertyab quwiassatie. My own words =) See the problems here? We have been having long debates over grading in my school, the arguements are very similar to those given here. Why should we all have to live up to somebody else's vision of perfection? And what the hell is intelligence anyway?

A challenge for creationists.
Deified replied to Hellbender's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Firstly, I agree with you, this is complete bollocks. Secondly, [nitpicking] Darwin didn't come up with the theory of evolution, it was around for about fifty years before he was born. Darwin clarified and gave strength to the arguement for evolution, he also coined the term "survival of the fittest". But I'm sure we all know that[/nitpicking] -
I haven't taken geometry ... ever, but it seems to me that a diameter would qualify as a chord. Actually any line intersecting a circle in two places. Is that included in the definition of a chord?
