Can you explain love with science?
Zolar V replied to WendyK's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
When contemplating unconditional love, you may want to take a look at some different types of birds that find only one mate for their entire lifetime. These birds to seem to exhibit some of the same traits that we are discussing. Therefore it would be quite logical to observe these exhibited traits, and compair them with our own. I personally believe that love is merely a chemical reaction in our brain. The exactness of the chemical reaction depends on our personalities and our views, these in turn are the product of innumerable various stimuli that formed our personalites during our developmental stages. -
Exactly, we could design the internal structure of the wood to fit our architectural needs. However i was also thinking along your lines as well, in that maybe if we were to try we would never achieve the efficiency of a tree growing wood. all in all it seems like this may be a good idea to delve into. imo if i had a lab i would definately attempt this.
-
well, sooner or later we are going to have problems with our wood reserves (albeit many many many years from now). the root of the problem is human population (less land for wood to grow) and human consumption. so why not start on that problem now? lets just make an easily producible wood wood supply that is grown into the forms we need it. You could use and manipulate the bacteria to make particular structures within the wood to make it stronger and more resilient in whatever shape you would like it to become. Being able to just grow the wood into a "2 by 4" would save on the energy requirements to both cut the lumber, haul it from its original place to a lumber mill, then to the average store, THEN to the consumer. you could just grow it, and ship it. seems like it could be saving quite a bit of energy.

I was reading up on the chemical makeup of wood, and it appears to be comprised of 3 main things: cellulose comprising of around 40-50% hemicellulose 15%-20% lignin 15% – 30% these three components are suspended and intertwined within each other in some pretty specific patters. So i think 3 or 4 different types of bacteria could be used in creating a patter of the components to be similar to wood. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood
-
Just a thought i just had, But could we coax possibly synthesized microorganisms, such as bacteria, to grow literally slabs of wood? instead of trees being the main source for wood, we could grow it, pre-shaped, in vats. so the above question begs another question, what is wood chemically?

Just wondering, but if you were to put some sort of containment vessel around the head of an human, then extract the skull/skin leaving just the brain. would it continue to live. If the vessel was filled with a sort of nontoxic substance similar to blood, the brain would still have an adequate supply of oxygen. But is there any other compounds that are required for the brain to live? Simply put, if you were to extract a brain and put it into a jar full of "blood", would it live?

True, the leverage does depend upon actual physical proof of such as opposed to documented proof. Since that is the case, what sort of leverage could we obtain with the captured spies? Also true, we spy on each other all the time, though it is much more of an embarrassment when we are found out. there does seem to be some sort of code or informal law between the countries that spy on each other. The code basically states that if the person spying is found out that they will have to pay some sort of restitution to the country that was able to find out. The code is more of an unwritten one between the politicians of such countries. But if that is the case, again i ask, what is the leverage we are trying to achieve. If, of course, that is the purpose of capturing the spies. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts merged Yes the EP-3 crew is the one i was talking about. Unfortunately i have no evidence supporting either of my claims. The only input i have from them is previous talks with some folks somewhat involved in said incident. To my knowledge, what i have stated is true. Also something not written in the wiki article, but should be taken into account for the sheer logic involved. Is that after the return of the aircraft it was noted that many of the boxes and equipment on board the aircraft were moved, taken apart, attempted to reverse engineered, and put back together (albeit, put back together incorrectly). The treatment of the EP-3 crew was one of the best detainment treatment ever recorded in resent history. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedexcuse me, it does seem that one sentence was devoted to what i just said. I merely skimmed the article, to see if it was the same one i was talking about, then to see if it didn't have some information i might have.

ok i read both of them, and neither are what i am questioning. The TOGA is about how using beam forming you can reduce the noise by using high gain antenna. the 60ghz design has nothing to do with the topic unfortunately. they were both good articles, But I am looking for HOW beam forming is done. thanks tho, they were both really great articles.

Even if they did leave before we could capture them, we had their real names their fake names and their bosses names. Along with a whole slew of documented information about them, their actions and just about everything we want to know. Surely even if they left our jurisdiction we could have used this information as a sort of leverage against Russia for whatever we wanted. Similar to the china-America accident that happened a few years back. where there was a plane doing some missions out on china's border that they didn't like. The plane had a in-flight emergency, and was forced to land on a Chinese base. The Chinese used them and the plane as a leverage to host the Olympics in their country. they used the Olympics to promote Chinese propaganda to include propaganda involving communism > capitalism. the Chinese liked the communist state. And there was not atrocities happening around their country due to communism. In general it was a move to try to raise the world's opinion of them.

from what i read they really did not seem to be a "flight" issue, so that one seems to be thrown out, which again just leaves political intrigue

That is the question i am contemplating. Of course you could take the rout where the media has its own political agenda and whether or not it coincides with the political figures who may or may not be using this for their benefit. IMO i think it might be a ploy designed by the FBI top dude. I've heard some pretty shady things about those guys. I don't know if this is true, but the timing would make sense if the FBI guy didn't like Obama and was trying to sabotage what he could, for his own personal gain. Maybe his vote was bought out by the unelected official, and because the unelected official wasn't elected, the official wasn't able to pay his price. Or if you notice within the stories that there was a guy not named but mentioned as being one of Obama's cabinet or a close friend to a cabinet member. One could assume that the whole ploy was to take that guys position in a game of backstabbing and two facing. But like i said before, it all seems interesting. It has a lot of "seeming" to it, a lot of speculation. If there is speculation then there is doubt. If there is doubt then there is a real reason behind it. So IMO again, there must be some real serious politics going on in the scenery.

Im talking about the carefully timed release of the case for political purposes.

"Some Russian politicians declared that the announcement of the arrests indicated that hostile elements in the United States government were bent on preventing relations from flourishing. " “We would like to note only that this type of release of information has happened more than once in the past, when our relations were on the rise,” the statement said. “In any case, it deeply regrettable that all this is taking place on the background of the ‘reset’ in Russian-American relations declared by the United States administration itself. It seems to me that there is some political subterfuge happening. It also seems that the political subterfuge could be very interesting in how it affects world politics. The response that the russian offical has to our timing seems to hold the most weight, "Some Russian politicians declared that the announcement of the arrests indicated that hostile elements in the United States government were bent on preventing relations from flourishing." Of course in response to Captn', these types of subterfuges should be well known and be konwn as extremely common, its just a wonder that we dont see any more of them. that and if i were to plot data, the outcomes could be somewhat predictable.
-
So how about those 11 russina spies who have been allegedly working for the russian intelligence agency. Apparently they have been undercover and being watched by the FBI for quite a few years, but the arrests were made after the recient "resetting" of the russia-US relations. Do you think they were actually spies, or have they been set up in a political subterfuge by either government to destroy potential realtions for a unkown third party for thier own unkown gains? http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/06/28/russian.spying.arrests/index.html?hpt=T2 http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/06/29/femme-fatale-rounded-nest-alleged-russian-spies/

This is what i don't know. i am not sure if the antenna arrays act in accordance to a phased array or if there is more going on. If it was just a phased array how would they steer it? im seems like there is more going on than just changing the phase of the antenna array to steer the beam.
-
no, this is not radar. this is exactly what the name implies. An array of antennas polarized and stuff to be used to "steer" the focal point
-
What? The elements don't physically change from what i understand. They change their polarization, and such. also some are activated with a an amount of electricity and such to steer it. There really isn't much computing involved. "Then the variables solved for are each object's direction, distance, radial speed, tangential speed and size -- and perhaps other information." all those seem irrelevant considering were talking about an electromagnetic frequencies.

No this is not homework, i am reposting it here so it is more visible and it gets answered. This pertains to my job, and its more just Gee-Wiz stuff that will help me do my job better. Steerable Beem Antenna Array Hey, Could anyone explain to me just how a SBAA(Steerable Beem Antenna Array) works? I'm not quite sure how it works on the physics side or the physical side. I know that an Antenna Array is just a array of antennas aranged in a perticular patter and have length properties proportionall to thier frequency ranges. Such as the smallest antenna in the array has to be less than 1/2 the smallest frequency in size, and the largest being greater than 1/2 the largest frequency in the array. IE 2-4ghz. I'm not to worried about the Transmitt side of the stuff, i would just like to figure out how it recieves stuff. but if you would like to explain both..or all.. in detail that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You should be able to predict its color, by analyzing how the molecule interacts with the chemicals withing it. But you would need to know what frequencies of light are exhibited by the chemicals making up the molecule and how they interact. you should also be alb eot predict its density based upon its chemical formula. you should be able to do this by summing its calculated chemical mass'es. however density is obviously dependent on volume, and volume is dependent on temerature and pressure. IMO density would require quite a bit of computing power to predict. Though you should be able to predict just about anything if you know the chemical formula.

no, i don't want any religion to be put there, not even if it is a building for all religions. my reason is because it was religion that caused this , the difference between christian and Muslim. IMO they should just build a memorial, like the wall of thousand names (for Vietnam) or something like that. A real memorial, simple stones carved with the events that transpired, the reaction, and the deceased.

You know looking at this from another perspective, isn't it interesting to see the Internets roll in solving this problem? just watching the "shock-wave" as the data that the spill occurred to the present has gone through the internet.

oxygen may react with the sodium chloride. either breaking up the chemical and fusing with one of the products or just breaking it up. actually now that i think about it, the sodium chloride will help the iron rust faster. NaCl(-) Fe(+) ?

British Petroleum sucks... except when they have to !

The burst pipe was leaking around 400,000 barrels of oil a day. that was reduced to 200,00 barrels of oil a day. so my question is, do we even need a pump? if we would have lowered a pipe that encompassed the base of the leak, the natural pressure of the oil would have been enough to push it to the top. basically were just using the same principle that every oil rig uses. then the question wouldn't be what do we do with the leak it becomes we need to have 24/7 transfer of oil from the pipe to the refineries. imo the only reasons why we did it the way we did was money. they tried to do the cheapest thing possible, also i suppose having a ceo decide isn't the best decision being that he is probably not knowledgeable about anything that would come anywhere near this problem -
When you install software that has a free trial or a toolbar it is your choice to install the add on or not. There is always a box that can be unchecked to not install such software. imo 3 seconds to uncheck a box while installing something is better than, an undiscerning amount of time yelling at your computer's OS because it doesn't support something. or in this case USB power. But i suppose it is a trade off between an OS's functionality and advertisement. Again i am positive that you know that you can build your own computer without all the preloaded stuff. OEM is awesome.
