  1. Thanks. I can't find the data file in my directory -- do you have any notion of what format it might be in (*.dll perhaps?) or where it would be located/named?
  2. Hello, I just bought a new PC. Hooray. I use Comcast broadband and read emails through Outlook Express. I want to be able to read my saved emails from this pc (my old one) on the new pc. However, I'm not finding the Outlook Express help menus to be of much use. These speak only of exporting the messages and address book to another Microsoft Program . . . not to another machine. Yet I'm sure this can be done . . . surely I don't have to forward all these emails to myself and then pick them up on the new PC? Help/guidance appreciated! Thanks, Ted
  3. Recently I found I couldn't log into my hotmail account because of too many password errors. This lockout ended after a few hours. As I didn't do this, I'm suspecting that someone else was trying to guess mine and tried one too many times. Question: is there anyway I can trace the IP of the offender for this instance, or activate something that will do so in the future? I noted in its password security help screen that MSN hotmail says it "tracks log-in attempts", but I don't know how to get to the information. Any help appreciated!
  4. Thanks and hope all's okay in Essex. On my system the icons for contacts are dark when they're offline and green when they come online. Will the icon she has for me as a contact stay on her system in dark color, or will it disappear altogether when I delete her?
  5. Hello, I'm in search of some accurate and important feedback regarding a question about WM. I won't bore you with the details of why this is so important, other than to say I want to avoid undue hurt to someone. I must delete this person as a contact on my WM account and close out the account. However, I'm curious as to whether she'll receive a message on her end saying "Ted Marx has deleted you as a contact". Thanks, Ted
  6. My question is how long benzo occupation of GABA receptors might take to alleviate upon benzo usage termination. Based on another thread here, it's apparently well-documented that lengthy benzo usage and subsequent GABA receptor occupation reduces the effectiveness of pain killers eg opiates, thus increasing morbity if such a patient needs, for example, open-heart surgery. Don't know if you have any knowledge or know a place where I can find out?? THANKS!

  8. Thanks all. The Welsh comments from those who I gather are English intrigue me. One of the Brits who came over was from Wales and had actually taken speaking lessons to rid herself of the Welsh accent. It actually was in fact a few English people in our group who revealed the Welsh inferiority concept to me over many drinks one night. For some reason it doesn't seem applicable to the Scots . . .

  12. I'm an American and work for a European company in the US office. We have Sr. Mgmt from England over here and a number of British expats working under them. There's an enormous amount of nationalistic tension between them and the Americans. For quite some time I stayed on the sidelines of this feud because I saw the Americans as being more than equally guilty of progressing this, plus, I've worked in an international environment for quite some time and realize how stupid and destructive this nonsense is. One of the things that really tees off my US counterparts is that while the essence of an ex-pat package (and it's a nice one at this company) holds that it gives the visitors an opportunty to learn a new culture, the Brits in our group don't take advantage of this. There are six or so of them and they've rented houses in the same expensive neighborhood on the firm's tab, their families all socialize together exclusively, etc. To many of the Americans, it seems like these people are living on an all-expense-paid vacation rather than a cultural bonding expedition. Another sore spot is that 100% of the sr. mgmt is British even though that country accounts for only a small percentage of our company's total revenue. This is empirically correct: when one ex-pat leaves to go back to England, another moves over. No Americans in our group have been promoted in three plus years. Finally, there's a secretive club-like culture among them -- not just the sr mgrs but their British peers -- where the Brits know all the inside info well before the Americans. Again, I've witnessed all this and while it's factually correct and undeniable, I've tried to not be harshly critical. "What's the use?" I figured. Recently, though, I became aware that the chief Brit in this "club", a sr. VP, has been sending email jokes around amongst only the Brits, and these jokes are ruthlessly critical of the American lifestyle. I've seen two of these emails; they were passed to me by a Brit who've I've befriended. This was the final straw for me: it's one thing to move to another country and isolate yourself from that cutlure, but it's entirely inappropriate to do so and then on top of that, make fun of that culture while not making an effort to fit in. Frankly it's really upset me. I'd be curious to hear perspectives from any Brits on this board about some thoughts as to how this could be happening, or from others who've worked with Brits. My thoughts are: *I think relative to our culture, the British culture has a more defined class system within the UK. The English, for example, make no attempt to hide that they find the Welsh inferior. *Aside from that, and aside from the obvious royalty stuff, there's also a more rigid definition of high society vs. low society based on the family into which you are born, and the rags-to-riches stuff is very uncommon relative to what we often see in the US. *Put the two together and perhaps it's not surprising that they perhaps dismiss those from other countries as being inferior, even if subconsciously. One final thought going back to the email thing. I had a friend from another company who happens to be British, and he's spent the last decade or so of his life jumping from one ex-pat package to another with his family. They absolutely love this lifestyle. Once he told me a story of his 2 yrs in Saudi Arabia and how he witnessed a beheading as part of a public execution. When I asked him how he could stand living in such a rigid society without worrying he'd commit some unkown cultural sin with horrific consequences, his reply was quite memorable. "It's simple," he said. "Everyone in every culture has some basic understandings of how people should behave. So long as you respect people and respect these standards, you're fine no matter where you go." I'd be really interested to share this email story with him to see how he reacts, but unfortunately I've lost touch with him. Lord knows where he is these days but I suspect he'd be appalled at the behavior of his fellow Brits in this case. Thoughts on this -- all of it -- appreciated. Thanks, Ted

  14. All, thinking I might be victim of an Inet scam -- inbox items from my account on hotmail appear to have been read before I got to them. I'm curious: obviously it would be easy for anyone anywhere in the world to go to hotmail.com, enter an accurate username and then try to guess the password. I know the server locks one out after so many attempts (yes, I'm old and feeble enough where I sometimes forget my own pw so I speak from experience!). Is it possible for the wizards at hotmail to provide me with the IP of anyone who's tried to get into my screenname/acct? (Have tried email to them but no joy over the weekend, thought someone of an Internet background might know!!) Thanks, Ted
  15. All, thanks for the comments and the wishes on the baby boy. Should be sometime this week. Cheers, Ted
  16. All, thanks. Do you like this version better? (Changing the names around to keep people guessing) >> Yo there. Cameron Jackson Bailey here. Finally popped out last night at xxx and my fighting weight is xx.xx, naked and dry. Say anything about my name being Southern and I’ll kick your ass. Mom’s fine and Dad’s coming out of his coma. He took a turn for the worse at the height of my move when Mom screamed out the story about a piglet, a farmer and a razor knife. Guess that means I’ll always be the youngest. Hooray. He did manage to keep it together, sort of, long enough to cut the cord but even that posed a challenge. Was about ready to snip my, um, “Jackson” until I whizzed in his face to show him what was what. I know Mom’s wondering why I hung out for 65 months, but all I can say is “Look around.” How anxious would YOU be to enter this cold, cruel world? I still have to talk to her about that Green Day concert she let Dad drag her to. Did she think all those flip-flops I was doing during that was me dancing to that crap or something? The nerve of the woman. Older brothers Michael and Ralph seem overjoyed with me. Oh, if they had any clue what I have planned for them. All right, gotta go, they want to take my picture again. Maybe I’ll smile this time. Peace out. Cameron PS: Don’t ever call me “CJ” or you’ll be wondering what hit you.
  17. Thanks all, VERY helpful stuff. Yeah, .5 but only PRN. Think I'll throw it in the trash after a little tapering.
  18. All, please let me know if the following will make me look like an idiot. I have a cynical, comical group of contacts and I try to keep up. Soon we expect our third son and I'm thinking of sending this sarcastic announcement. Your honest feedback on whether it's funny will be appreciated: >> Pleased to report that Cameron James arrived xxx and weighed in at xxx. He’s in fine shape as is his Mom, who’s been a true star throughout the entire 65 months of this pregnancy. In fact, everyone’s just plain dandy -- even me. No, the stress of now being responsible for the livelihood of three kids in a troubled world hasn’t driven Dad over the edge. In fact, once the ceiling stops barking at me, I’ll gather up the onions and bug spray and take a refreshing snooze down in the bomb shelter. Seriously, everything’s fine, though Cameron already favors his mother. Must be he’s tainted by the sadistic rants she shouted about me at the peak of the transaction. I couldn’t decipher much of it except for a gory tale about a farmer, his razor knife and a piglet named “Mister Theodore”. Thankfully, that one had nothing to do with me. Older tots Jake and Michael are simply overjoyed with their new baby brother. They have no clue how this bundle of joy will alter the tenuous state of equilibrium in our household, and maybe it’s better that way. After all, ignorance is a fine thing, which is why my fellow brain-damaged brethren and I stumble through life wearing a dazed smile. Just keep feeding us chocolate and we’ll be fine. Peace to y’all, Tedl
  19. Hello, work in pharma and know enough about this stuff to be dangerous, but you can still help!! I've been taking Klonopin for 13 years for anxiety at a low dose and now, pain medication at usual doses doesn't work for me at all. Plus, recently I dislocated my shoulder and the ER doc couldn't believe how much sedative I needed before I was "semi out" enough to have the arm relocated. Finally, during knee surgery, the docs said I needed an incredible amount of anesthesia before I was totally out. Is there a receptor effect or something of that sort from Klonopin and similar med usage that negates the effects of pain meds and anesthetics? If so, is it a permament dynamic or will it go away with stopping Klonopin, and if so, how long will this reversal take to occur. Thanks!
