Read my original post. I didn't claim it was a war on Christianity, I wrote quite clearly ' Do you feel safer since the Americans decided to use the phrase 'War on Terrorism' as carte blanch for illegal military action to protect oil investments in the birthplace of Christianity?'. Iraq is birthplace of Christianity, so please just conceed what is a obvious and valid point. The issue of the oil interests is obvious to all people outside the US. Presumably they gave some sort of speech to the American public that we outsiders are not privy too. Find balanced viewpoints here:- http://www.alternatives.ca/article869.html http://www.wsws.org/news/1998/nov1998/casp-n16.shtml http://english.aljazeera.net/Special+Reports/Iraq+Oil+Target.html As for the civilian casualties you didn't find on the aljazeera website, try these:- http://www.iraqbodycount.net/bodycount.htm http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,82168,00.html http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0522/p01s02-woiq.html A picture of a wounded civilian, about 6 years old:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/middle_east/03/story_of_the_war/html/18.stm http://www.antiwar.com/ewens/casualties.html Or indeed, the lead story on the Aljazeera website that apparently was so very hard to spot:- http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/10F37678-0962-46DC-86ED-7A931AED01AE.htm

It's the tea that is important, you see. Shun the tea, and see where it gets you. Insomnia, taxes and brown teeth.

The application of mathematics does not preclude the world of physics. As the measurement of temperatures is a mathematical principle, the idea that a mathematician would not use conversion to produce the solution is a simplistic view of the world. This is all just a pedantic argument to answer what was not really a conundrum, but a basic test of the ability to convert measurements of temperature.

Pretty much, it was the plan to attack Russia. Other than the UK at the time, Russia was more or less the most potent hornets nest to start prodding. Prior to that, the German forces were only engaged with the western forces in the UK. Even with the US reinforcements, it wasn't a good situation until the Axis forces were divided onto the two sides. At the time the US did not represent that much of a contribution to the war effort, not enough either way to win or lose the war. The Pacific and African conflicts were not important on a global scale. They were tactical and interesting conflicts, resulting in a great many casualties, but they were always going to be allied victories (barring humongous errors in command).

Well, your just all wrong. Ask Mr Hoppy.
-
I think your both right, just one of you is half as right as the other. Or is it one of you is twice as right as the other? Maybe it's both.
-
Mr Hoppy told me to tell you he's not a happy hoppy. He's going to teach you a lesson. Can you ask him not to scream at me so loud, when you see him?
-
I assume you mean way, way, way, way back. As in hey Mr Simple Organism, whacha doin'?
-
Ah, the bitter irony. America declares war on UK because of tax issues. America wins independence, and proceeds to declare war on itself. US wins, creates the 16th Amendment and taxes it's citizens an average of one third of their wage. The UK taxes it's citizens a tenth of their wage, properly manage the economy, and drink tea. Reap the rewards, rebel! Muuhahaha....

Medication. Hmmm, that might be the link. I wonder if there is a common medication issued? I thought it may have been linked to the chemical imbalances in the system of the sufferers, triggering some subtle change in hormones etc resulting in a distinctive whiff. The comment about two voices was more to do with the misconception of the condition. Or perhaps it was an attempt to illicit some sort of original comedic responses. I forget. Probably I just couldn't think how to end the post, and kind of drifted off topic a bit.

Look for repeats? Like trying to find the universes 'favorite' group of numbers? That sounds like a spiffing plan. Absolutely top hole. Let me know which ones it churns out, old chap.

I know there is a link between schizophrenia and the olfactory senses, with sufferers having a distinct inability to identify smells etc. That's ok, I can find evidence of that. But I remember being in a hospital and the schizophrenia patients had a similar, unique, odor about them. I remember being informed that the patients produced the smell, and it was related to the condition. Is this true, or is it actually false? Please no comedy 'two voice' answers. It will just make me bitter, and the vitreous bile will flow forth form my heart and felicit a unusually cruel statement about your personal habits, personality and contribution to the human species. Probably. Who knows?

Well, it has bugger all to with terrorism or Osma Bin Laden. Mr Laden has a Jhilhad against Mr Hussain, and has been apposed to the guy for quite a few years previous to that occuring. The oil production from Iraq represents 12% of the worlds oil production and since the trade embargo, the US economy suffered directly. The US state department issued a statement to that effect on commencement of the oil embargo. The first official act the US commenced on occupying Iraq was to lift the trade embargo. As for the birthplace of Christianity being involved, that is the country that the 'war' is bombing and where the civilians are being slaughtered. That's a fairly strong link for you. Do you see it? Birthplace of Christianity = Iraq, Iraq = US Led war. Is the link clear enough for you? Google it, if your not convinced. In regard to the 'prevention of terror' more than 15,000 Iraqis - 4,300 of those were civilians , have died in the conflict so far. Add to that the 229 American Solders, not counting the UK, Italian and UN forces. How safe do you think they felt? Who did you say the psychotic people are? People are apposed to the war, for justifed reasons. You can't just contradict valid points by saying FYI, that's crazy talk.
-
Those crazy talking dogs. God love 'em, I've no idea of the breeds. And Mr MacGyver is an outstanding fellow, full of ingenuity, mullets, social conscious and charm. He just hears voices in his head from time to time. I'm sure it's normal.
-
Well, Quincy (ME) was a medical examiner by trade, but carried out forensic examinations at his own bequest to avoid having to carry out actual autopsies. MacGyver seemed to have official connections to government agencies, however his use of forensics was severely limited to using it as a tool for entertain the voices in his head that he constantly talked too. Jessica Fletcher, unconnected to any police agency, carried out cursory examinations of crime scenes, however the crime's were of a nature to occur in close proximity to Mrs. Fletcher who then proceeded to 'solve' the murder and make a profit from writing a book about her 'solving' the crime (the suspects invariably resisted the arrest, claiming innocence and unsubstantiated evidence) . Daphne and Fred carried out forensic analysis without any legal background, but as the case was invariably solved by a Doberman and a hippie running into the criminal, so I don't suppose it was ever raised as an issue. I guess the field is wide open, so long as your convictions are not based on the evidence you collated. I advice the use of Columbos method of annoyance to the point of the suspect spontaneously confessing. Although, as you are not connected to a police force or legal department, the suspect could choose to shoot you in the face rather than opting for jail time.

:giggle: hemoglobin, haemoglobin. Potato, Plato.

I get the forbidden errors every so often. Usually when I'm on myie, but switching to microsoft IE gets rid of the hicup. Don't send a horses head. Send a description of the amount of time it takes 12 pigs to consume a human body (minus hair and teeth). About 10 to 15 min, I'd guess, for the average sized tech staff of your host. Plus, a picture of your pig pen.

:giggle: that's silly.

Do you feel safer since the American lead War on Terrorism, if you live in the US? or Do you feel safer since the Americans decided to use the phrase 'War on Terrorism' as carte blanch for illegal military action to protect oil investments in the birthplace of Christianity?

He found it today? But it's his website, you'd think he must have noticed it before, it's been around since 1998 and the admin contact is jsdratm. Ah, the things your PC will get up to if you don't keep an eye on it.

Developmental Function of Nursery Rhymes
atinymonkey replied to Sayonara's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
The point of leaning the intricacies of the English language is not to be able to spout quotes at dinner partys. The premise of teaching English is to increase the eloquence of the students. The person most able to utilize language to express point will be the person who is most able to persuade and dissuade peoples views. You get nowhere in life if you cannot string together a rudimentary sentence, or express your thoughts/ideas in words of less than two syllables. Reading Dantes Inferno simply helps you see differing facets and tools that language can use. If you truly believe literature and language should be ignored, why don't you stop using English and use Esperanto instead? Nursery rhymes and fairy stories are methods employed to pass on valuable information to children (ignoring those on Squintz link, which are just crass derivatives) such as how diseases are communicative if the sufferer is sneezing. One of my favorite phrases is from the tale of the white road 'be bold, be bold, but not so bold or else you life blood may run cold' which I happen to think just about sums up the attitude all parents would like their children to take in life. Just one last point, do you not feel that by eshewing literature that your more or less saying you have no soul? If you can't appreciate beauty in words, poetry, prose or storytelling and wish to be informed only of scientific facts and theorems you would appear to me to be, well, dead inside. As a general point, if people read the whole thread they might notice that the origin of the common nursery rhymes has already been discussed and there are no revelations occurring by reposting in this 'did you know' way. And I'm willing to discuss the place of literature in society at great and exausting length, just in case anyone is thinking a quick rebuttal will shut me up
