  1. Sorry about that! I meant to imply that they are basically the same. The 'or' is part of my idiocyncratic semantics. Anyway...I also wonder: have we figure out how is it that we can remember/know something, but not have to consciously think about it all the time? I think that's what I was really getting at with the whole "storage" idea. Which gets back at consciousness itself, I suppose...Do some scientists assume/believe that simply the complexity of the system (brain) creates consciousness? And I always wondered why the "correlation, not causation" argument wasn't automatically assumed until causation was actually "proven"...that idea makes much more sense to me than the reverse...

  3. Very most favorite? Wonder Woman...I always wanted to be her when I was a kid...I also like Electra and Lady Death. All of them are terrifically cheezy and melodramatic. It's wonderful! *lol*

  9. Doesn't x have to be 0? I can't see it working any other way...oh wait, nevermind...it can't be zero. ...by the way, where was this equation found? I mean, besides the thread that can't be found...

  11. Wow, Those websites are awesome!! Thanks for finding and posting them! I work in a writing center and we are always looking for good resources on different types of writing and I must say that we are sadly lacking good internet-writing resources. And if any of you are interested in reading an actual book (*lol*) about good writing I highly recommend Style: Ten Lessons in Clarity and Grace by Josph M. Williams. It's all about writing clearly and concisely.

  13. I do believe that the current idea of brain use is that we do indeed use all of it, just not all of it at once. Also, because of current technological and ethical limitations, we cannot actually measure how much of the brain ever does get used. Also, I read an article (can't remember where at the moment) about how death is an evolutionary advantage for a species that reproduces sexually (as opposed to asexually) because it promotes genetic diversity and therefore better ability for the species to survive.

  15. I like it! I don't know much about those theories (except that the poles switch), but it's an interesting idea! I'm interested to see if there are any things that support or contradict this idea of your!

  17. Pardon if this sounds uneducated (for I have not studied ANY neuroscience at ALL), but have we figured out exactly how (and does the system you mentioned explain), on a physical level, memory or knowledge is stored? Have we deciphered the signals that are being sent? Could we read them? Perhaps we don't know how to build AI, but can we even guess (or make a theoretical model) of AI? Does this signal system explain consciousness? Identity?

  21. *wave* Hello, hello! I'm your local Xandrabeast! Good to meet you all! I'm quite excited to find a science community online, since I spend so much time on my computer. I just recently started science classes at Evergreen State College and I think I've found my calling in life...which is rather nice because I feel like I can relax now....Anyway, almost any science or social science peaks my interest, but my current very favorite thing to do and think about is chemistry, in particular enantiochemistry and pre-life chemistry... so. um. Yeah. That's me. *lol*
