The problem with that theory is that pain is based on the number of pain receptors in the body, not on the number of neurons in the brain. Because of this, an animal with many pain receptors will feel more pain. I know people that have had trauma and have lost some pain response. This is caused by the destruction of receptors. As Glider said, an animal must have the proper mechanisms to experience pain, or they will be unable to do so. These mechanisms are the receptors, and the pain is interpreted by the neurons. The receptors "feel" the pain, while the brain interprets it. Becuase of this, the brain just needs to be advanced enough to interpret pain signals from the receptors.

i usually agree with the posts you put....but in this case you are sadly mistaken. Douglas Adams may have had little, if not no, factual information.....this means nothing.....the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a hilarious book that was made purely for the entertainment of the readers.....

1) Teachers that know less than me. ( of which there are like 3 in the easy classes) 2) Disorganized classes. 3) The shit the teachers and administrators give you over the littlest things. 4) There are only 6 computers in the liberary. 5) Rich kids that do things wrong but just pay off the administrators. 6) Kids flunking all their classes but not getting expelled for various reasons. 7) Pot-heads that wont share it with me. 8) Religious kids getting pissed of at non-religious kids. 9) THE FOOD F#*$ING SUCKS!! 10) Not being allowed to take more advanced classes because of prerequsite requirements. 11) I could go on and on....but nobody really cares.

evolution is not determined by brain capacity. that is just a "perk" of humans' evolutionary state. as humans continue to evolve, though, the logevity problem may be bypassed by quicker processing capabilities. i agree with xandrabeast, though, about the need for death in a sexually reproducing species. like xandrabeast said, evolution is also based on the needs of the species, not the individual....and it is easy to say that not all humans have that amazing brain capacity:confused:....but thats another story....

i agree with gilded, but i would like to add one more thing. as he said, redundant dendrites and neurons are deleted to make room for new ones. but id like to add that unneeded neurons are also deleted. at birth, a human forms many skills that are needed for life. as a human progresses, though, things that are not needed for survival are imprinted into our minds. these unneeded things like the knowledge of a cheat code for a game or the knowledge of the tire pressure on you tire are deleted to allow for more important information to enter the mind. i know that myself, as well as many of you, have remembered things for a short period of time so we can regurgitate the information soon after we learn it. if some of you havent realized, we forget that right, or soon, after we regurgitate it. this is because the mind deletes this unnecessary information on a regular basis. becuase of this, even if there were a limit to how much knowledge one can have, it will never be accounted for because the limit would be such an unimaginable amount.

An Israeli man says:"Medicine in my country is so advanced, we can take a kidney out of one man, put it in another, and have him looking for work in 6 weeks!" A German says:"In my country, medicine is so advanced we can take a lung out of one man, put it in another, and have him looking for work in 4 weeks!" A Russian man says:"Medicine in Russia is so advanced, we can take half a heart out of one man, put it in another, and have them both looking for work in 2 weeks!" An American, not to be outdone, says:"Oh ya, in our country, we took an asshole out of Texas, put him in the White House, and half the country was looking for work the next day!!!"

dreams are related well to sigmund freuds ideas about the id, ego, and super ego. if u are not familiar with this: the id is the unconscious, the ego is the conscious, and the super ego is the knowledge of right vs. wrong. the unconscious is where supressed feelings, wants, and fears are kept. This is the section of your mind where phobias and things that are taboo reside. when you dream, the unconsious takes control and your dreams express these unconsious feelings and fears. this is why the dreams you have can sometimes relate to what happened recently in your life. if you have a traumatic experience that you repress becuase you dont want to remember it, this will show up in your dreams. it is possible to control your dreams becuase some people have control over their unconsious thoughts. for more information....just post another question

Thank you...thank you....thank you.....i agree entirely with your statement there. as a proud owner of 5 permanent snakes, not to mention the 15 new ones i get twice a year because i breed by snakes, i would like to put out my statement in support of snakes as the ultimate animal............snakes own everything, if you look at their food chain it is easy to see that there is not much that they dont eat, except veggies....

i am very happy that there is another person my age that is as ambitious as you. you are the only other 14 year old person that i can relate to. i dont think that a phage could be used to target autoimmune bacteria. i havent done any extensive lab research like you, because i dont have the facilities, but in my experience i have seen that things like bacterial phages and stem cells are very difficult to control. once the phage is in the body, how would a doctor control how it targets the autoimmune bacteria. there are good bacteria in the body that are needed for proper cell metabolism and proper body maintenace. there would be detrimental effects if the phages targeted these bacterial cells. my question to you is how would the phage be controlled once it is inside the body? i hope this helps you.....and i repeat what i said about ambition....i hope the lab tests and electron micrograms work out....maybe they will hold the key to what you need.

in my opinion, the choice of what college or university to attend is entirely yours. i do not know anything about any canadian colleges, but i do know about a lot of extremely good american colleges if you change your mind. in response to mak10....i think that the fields of science that are most likely to boom in a few years are pharmeceuticals and medical technologies. these are very likely to provide a lot of research opporotunities, but i think that you need to think about what you would like to spend the rest of your life doing, rather than thinking about what will "boom". i hope this helped....leave a response if you have any comments regarding this post.

i can answer questions 2 and 5. To me, the others seem slightly subjective....they can only be answered by you. dont quote me in this project word for word, you should answer the questions yourself....im just starting you off. 2. To become a zoologist you need to have strong backgrounds in biology and anatomy/physiology. A zoologist must have experience with animals and needs to be sure that they want that job because it is a difficult endeavor to go into. 5.there are a number of careers that a person with a major in zoology can go into. These include a job as a professor at a university where there is a chance to do research, a zoologist can work as the animal sciences coordinator/researcher at a zoo, a zoologist can start their own research center where they preform studies on what they want to study, and a zoologist could work under some researcher till they have their foundation laid down. The things said in the answer to question 5 could help you answer question 6, but i am not entirely sure as to the entire answer for question 6. I hope this information helped you...if you need any more assistance, i will give as much as i can.

Lack of sleep: Consequences?
birdo118 replied to Gilded's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
as a response to a number of posts here........ sleep deprevation is absolutely cummulative. If you dont sleep for 5 days, you will have worse effects than if you dont sleep for 2. This is because of the accumulation of stress on your body. Sleep is meant to give your brain a rest, therefore, if you dont sleep, your brain doesnt function properly and works slowly, like tired muscles. in response to the begining of the thread, sleep deprevation is the cause of those factors. As i said earlier in this post, if your brain does not get enough rest, then in does not function well. The excess stress on the brain and the other organs in the body caused by the lack of proper rest is the cause of all your ailments. Just try to get more sleep more often and your symptoms should subside. a good example of why sleep is good is the fact that all doctors will tell you to get rest. This rest lets your body recuperate. -

my mistake.....you were asking how cells continue to divide.....they do this by constantly duplicating the chromatin each time the cell needs to divide....this does go on and on, as mak10 said, as long as it needs to......so yes, the chromatin duplictates every time a cell divides
