What is power in calories?

According to some, birds are dinosaurs. Thus, they have existed for 201 million years without becoming intelligent as we are as shown by our developing technology. Is there some evolutionary reason?

I do not know the answer to your question, but pure diamonds are electrical insulators and have high thermal conductivity.

Possibility for Mass Transport System could take us up a gear.

I made a mistake in the formula [math] \Delta x [/math] should have been [math]\Delta t [/math] as shown above. AFAIK the values are correct. Also, the energy required to move 1 kg to 9 834.88 meter/second is 96,724,865 joules. To oscillate 1 kg at 40KHz for one second requires about 3M tons of explosives, because it is unlikely you can find an elastic that can survive the forces of acceleration and deceleration you suggest. On the other hand, setting 90 pounds of explosives 40,000 times per second in exactly the right position is not possible either. -
The answer to your question is maybe. You allude to answers, but didn't say what the questions were. Ask a question, and maybe someone will be able to answer.

The Universe didn't provide for them. If it did, they wouldn't be magic, they would be common, like spitting, burping, and sweating.

Oh, one with a relay will cycle on an off every few ms, depending on speed of the relay. Electronic only would cycle faster and appear to be a dim laser.

Why should we have magic powers?

I believe you know lots more about this subject than I, but sometimes interaction with anyone, regardless of their ignorance can help. A blob is not my image of an electron. There are two, either a string-wave or point-wave. I will not elaborate on the string. My image of a point wave is as a pebble dropped in a pond, except a standing wave that moves in a line instead of the concentric circles expanding from the center. My mind's image of a point-wave electron is similar to the following picture of a hydrogen atom, except without the red and yellow in the middle. http://www.google.com/imgres?client=firefox-a&hs=vJf&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbnid=jwtUvaSFESNvEM:&imgrefurl=http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/05/28/amazing-first-ever-photograph-inside-hydrogen-atom/&docid=XxmOMqgGK6tThM&imgurl=http://global.fncstatic.com/static/managed/img/Scitech/image%252520of%252520hydrogen%252520atom.jpg&w=660&h=371&ei=p9TeUZm8JrPNywHazYCgBg&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:0,s:0,i:81&iact=rc&page=1&tbnh=168&tbnw=300&start=0&ndsp=11&tx=254&ty=85&biw=1173&bih=575

No. Get a compass and a refrigerator magnet. 1) Notice how the compass points to the north as you move the compass around. 2) Put the refrigerator magnet near the compass and notice how the compass does not always point north as you move the compass around. It always points to the refrigerator magnet. Do you believe that a refrigerator magnet is powerful enough to build a hover board? I do not. Yet, the magnetic force of the refrigerator magnet is stronger than the Earth's magnetic field. Thus, the Earth's magnetic field is not strong enough to be of any assistance in an effort to build a hover board. Should??? The laws of Nature aren't controlled by your whim or desire. They are, and we must live with them as they are. The Casimir effect is produced by metallic plates in a vacuum that are a few micrometers apart. I doubt you can breathe in a vacuum or fit between two plates a few micrometers apart. Sorry, this idea will not help. If is about the biggest word in the dictionary. My grandmother said to me, "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." She lived in another era, before man walked on the moon. I suppose that saying should be updated. If wishes were hoverboards, beggars would ride. Your desire to eliminate the use of fossil fuels is admirable, and I am with you on that one. It is unfortunate that your ideas will not work. There are some interesting ideas for getting into space without using rockets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_elevator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Launch_loop http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightcraft http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_gun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarTram http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_fountain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpaceShaft And, Elon Musk is working to reduce or eliminate the use of fossil fuels for transportation by developing electric cars (TeslaX) and solar electricity (Solar City). In addition, he is trying to reduce the cost of space launches by 1/100th (SpaceX). I hope you develop a hover board some day.

There are two meanings of server that are important, distinguished as hardware server and software server. A hardware server is a computer that mainly runs programs that do not have a user interface. A software server is a program that does not have a user interface. In other words, a hardware server is a computer that mainly runs software servers. The reason I say a hardware server mainly runs programs without a user interface, is that someone must maintain all computers, for example backup disks, boot them, upgrade software, etc., which requires a user interface. However, servers such as the ones shown in the picture below, usually do not run browsers, spread sheets, word processors, etc. that interact with people. Software servers have a programmatic interface to one or more client programs. Clients are programs such as your browser or a game client, which are designed with a user interface. Among the first client server applications were business programs that used a database. The database server program would run on a hardware server, and was accessed by many client programs. Similarly, game clients send messages to and receive messages from game server programs that run on servers, similar to the ones in the picture above. You and many other people run game clients on laptop and desktop computers that communicate with the game server program. You may develop a game client using java script and a game server using java. Usually, both client and server can be run on a single computer, which is very useful during development and debugging, because many people can develop and debug independently from each other. Web browsers such as Firefox communicate with servers such as the Apache HTTP Server, which runs on LINUX and other operating systems. Anyone may download and install LINUX on their computer for free. Most distributions of LINUX (server) will come with the Apache distribution. Major cities usually have a LINUX User Group that meet periodically (e.g., monthly) and sponsor Installfests occasionally to help people install LINUX and related software packages (e.g., Apache) on their computer. Linux also has server software for mail, ftp, domain name service, and databases. There are some minor differences between Windows and LINUX web servers, which sometimes cause problems with Firefox accessing pages on Windows servers. An excellent source for asking questions about web servers is the following site: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12581416/node-js-development-windows-or-linux Google develops much of its own software. It has developed its own browser and may have developed its own web server software. Google has server farms like the picture above, and have many employees. It is a major corporation, and your class probably cannot make a site like Google. Yahoo may use Apache on FreeBSD (another free operating system, but not a version of LINUX). Yahoo is also a corporation and probably beyond the capabilities of your class. Firefox is developed by many volunteers, and your class may be able to start a project that eventually becomes like Firefox. However, the development time put into Firefox is more than your class can possibly do in a semester or year. Although, I am unsure whether you mean a site like Firefox, meaning the only the web pages or you mean everything including the software advertized and documented by the Firefox web pages. If your classmates want to make individual web pages, there are hosting sites you may use. See: http://www.wikihow.com/Host-Your-Own-Website-for-Free If you download and install Apache on your own computer, you may host your own web pages on your own computer. It is more difficult than hosting on a site that gives you a little free space, but you will learn more doing it all yourself. Possibility for Mass Transport System could take us up a gear.
EdEarl replied to Mike Smith Cosmos's topic in Speculations
22,000 mph = 9 834.88 meter/second 25 s per oscillation = 25*10-6 second [math] a = \frac{\Delta v}{\Delta x} = \frac{9 834.88 m/s}{25 \times 10^{-6}s} = 3.933952 \times 10^8 m/s^2 [/math] 1 G = 9.80665 m/s2 [math] a = 3.933952 \times 10^8 m/s^2 [/math] is about [math] 4 \times 10^7 G [/math] assuming no arithmetic errors. A neutron star has gravity of about 1011G. And, I'm done with this thread. -

25 [math]\mu[/math]s per oscillation of a mass to 22,000 mph...impossible with current technology, and unlikely ever. The record for accelerating an object by a gun is held by the U.S. Navy, Project HARP. Only 8,050 mph. -

Mike is it OK to replacmotor-elastic with a maglev system using superconductors and a super capacitor with everything shaded by the earth to keep it cool enough without refrigeration? I also recommend simplifying to a single mass oscillating vertically or horizontally, whichever you think is best. The curved system you have described has both H and V force components, but I do not know which you think is most important. If both, then the maglev can have both. The maglev is a linear motor-generator that can use the charge and recharge the super capacitor, which loses no energy from resistance. By separating vertical and horizontal force components the system is easier to analyze. A real system and ideal system are essentially the same. -
If you mean a black hole is dead in the same sense one might call a rock dead, then I suppose they are dead. But, it is an unusual use of the word dead. I have heard a phrase similar to, "a black hole is made when a large star dies," but it is not very accurate. Stars are not living things like people, plants and animals; thus, they do not actually die. Saying a star dies is using poetic license, which I think is called personification. The title of this thread is, "its just a thought but has any one ever concidered the true function of a black hole," which can be simplified to, "What is the function of a black hole." And, the answer is, science cannot answer such a question. Scientists have observed that black holes exist, and have used math to understand some things about black holes.

The 117V indicates a bit of an overload. I'd put the air on another extension cord. But, the fridge may not work right with the additional cord. Check the voltage again with the additional cord. If you still get less the 120, try putting the air or fridges on another circuit, which may not be the next closest wall outlet.

This result was expected, I suppose.
