We are a diverse group who usually get along, even if we need a moderator to manage disputes and other bs. Such a person has been common in tribes (groups of people) for a very long time. Such people need to be respected by others in the group, for them to be successful without using force all the time. People like leaders as moderators instead of bosses, but either can keep a group together. Unfortunately, that model breaks down when the group grows too large, and scaling by various groups interacting doesn't seem to work well, either. Although, there may be a way that we don't know about. The conversation in groups that currently exist is not much about how can we improve inter-group communications. In fact, it is more often, "Lets go to war with some group." We can make an effort to improve inter-group communications, as more people do it, society will improve. There are people who either cannot or will not participate, and society must deal with them. However, we should do so with as much kindness as possible, because fear and hate make us do bad things. Understanding why people do awful things to other people may be useful, and help society exclude fewer people, but it is not necessary to be kind and try to improve the world.

Climate engineering is different than weather engineering. We are engineering the climate as an unintended consequence of the industrial revolution, and weather patterns are changing, but the main variable we control is CO2 level. We also add a little heat to the environment, but not much compared to the heat added by the Sun and Earth. We change the weather in many micro-environments, for example cities by clearing and building, but without precision. We are largely ignorant of how weather can be controlled. Weather is affected by events that occur very fast, rather slow, and many time-scales between. For example, electric charges in rain clouds move very quickly, water molecules move slower, depending on their temperature and wind-blown velocity, rain drops move yet slower, and the cloud forms and moves even slower. The day-night cycle and yearly cycle are quite slow, but sun cycles and variations in Earths orbit also affect weather. I doubt we know how to write the equations to model weather for a location, and other surrounding locations affect each other; thus, one would have to model weather for the entire Earth to get any accuracy, and no computer network has sufficient power to calculate the weather anywhere near real time speed. Even if such a computer existed, the random effects of quantum mechanics affect electrons (e.g., lightning), atoms, and molecules; thus, the process is chaotic and can never be modeled to perfection. Moreover, we can never build a computer large and fast enough to model everything that moves in a weather system, from roofs to electrons, and all the boundary conditions with things that do not move. Without a good model, we can not control weather accurately and weather forecasts are computerized guesses. Predicting average temperature for a decade based on CO2 levels is easy and fairly accurate. If we can control CO2 levels, we can successfully engineer the climate, but not weather.

The suggestion that algae production would use fresh-water resources is absurd, since many algae strains grow in salt water, and some locations have underground salt water. Why "unsustainable demands for energy" seems incorrect, since it primarily uses solar energy to make algae-oil, which means the process creates more useful energy than it uses, especially if the energy consumed is produced from renewables.

A pure resistor (heating element) will run on the either AC or DC of the same wattage. Measure the resistance with a meter and use Ohms law to determine volts needed for rated power. On the other hand, the fan will not run on DC. Since the motor and resistance element are wired in parallel, you will need to disconnect the motor for DC operation.

I just found this reference to solar cooling, which sounds very interesting. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/04/150402081756.htm

Yes, thanks. I have successfully posted.

The email address may be a problem. I'll find out. I cannot create another userid with the same email address. I'll have to use another email account.

No, no emails from them. I wasn't sure that I should get one, since their documentation doesn't mention it, at least the things I read, and I read quite a bit. See: http://website.informer.com/everypoet.org

tyvm I sent a several messages via "Contact US" to the site admins, but IDK if anyone read them. I even used Google to translate one to Sweedish, since the server seems to be in Sweeden.

My user name there is edearl.

I cannot post at all, anywhere. My permissions are: I have navigated to Forum: Newbie Stretching Room and can read the posts and criticisms. However, I can neither post a poem nor a criticism. Moreover, I cannot send a message to a moderator.

Has anyone experience with the forum EveryPoet.org/pffa/, a vBulletin powered site? I registered on the 25th, but my account has not been activated completely. I can read the forums, but cannot post or send messages, except to "Contact Us." I've not received an email from them, since registering; although, I have sent four messages to "Contact Us" asking for help. I can see that the site considers me a member because of the following statistics: One would think a member could post, but my posting permissions are the following: If anyone has an account there and can get a message to a moderator, I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) fully explains the phenomenon. Unidentified: not identified or recognized Flying: moving swiftly or floating, fluttering, waving, hanging, or moving freely in the air Object: anything that may be apprehended intellectually In other words, the object may be real, a mirage, or imagined, moving quickly perhaps through the air, and we do not know what it is. Some UFO sightings have been explained, and others have not. Thus far, no aliens have been positively identified, as far as we know. Anyone may speculate.

swansont and Cuthber know their stuff; you misunderstand the physics, yahya. All you need to do to prove us wrong is make something move forever with no input power, an axle, lever or wheel.

In what sense good or bad. Continued survival is good for our species, and bad for animals that become extinct because of us. We are already very resistant to extinction, since we are the dominant species on the Earth. We have already made Polio and Smallpox nearly extinct and probably can make them totally extinct, as well as many larger animals such as the dodo and passenger pigeon. The main thing we need to secure survival of humanity is a colony on another planet or moon, which some think will occur before the end of this century.

From LEO the night sky is about 3K. From Earth the atmosphere, especially CO2 and methane, reduce the amount of radiation that escapes the Earth, because they partly reflect infrared back towards the Earth. IDK how to calculate the effects.
-
It is a heat source to ionize materials. According to Wikipedia: Emphasis mine.
-
Electric arcs can get as hot as 35,000F (19,400C); thus, I'd think the spectral lines of elements would be well known, at least to that temperature, which is hotter than the surface of the Sun.
-
Radiative cooling depends on the night sky temperature, not the air temperature, which is about 3K. That's radiating into space, past the atmosphere.
-
Wouldn't astronomers who read spectrograms be aware of this phenomenon; thus, these perturbations would not account for unknowns? Or, does the Sun produce such variable magnetic fields to prevent such identification?
-
Radiative cooling works by radiating into the night sky from a black body, which can be glazed to protect from ambient air temps. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiative_cooling. See also: http://www.ceen.unomaha.edu/solar/documents/SOL_29.pdf It would be necessary to store the "cool" for use during the day, perhaps in a large insulated water tank. Due to increasing CO2, which retains infrared radiation, radiative cooling is more limited than it was a few decades ago.

I made a mistake (corrected now) in the OP. Not 15,000 unidentified spectral lines, but 15% of 29,000. My source is a TED Talk by Garik Israelian, titled: How spectroscopy could reveal alien life, starting about 4:35 mins. As I understand his statement, they are emission lines.
-
"For all of the ionization states?" ... IDK For "molecular states ..." The photosphere is about 6000K, and the interior of the sun is millions K; can a molecule exist at such temperatures?
-
There are some 29,000 spectral lines in Sunlight, with 15% unidentified. What hypothesis are there to explain them? The spectral lines of all the elements are known, except perhaps for some of the ones with extremely short half-lives. Is it possible that states of matter exist in the sun that we don't know about, which create the unidentified spectral lines? Is it possible that dark matter is involved?
