Lighten up guys, he's just being funny, not saying you're all stupid.

I think gas lawn mowers have a large magnesium piece too.

That's ok, I like reading interesting things. I'm going to point my friend to this board. He is very interested in pharmacology.

It is pretty neat, but mostly useless as well. I really don't have so many windows open that it is usefull (you can't manipulate them in 3d state anyway) or so many icons that i need more space. I think my brother would find it usefull because he tends to whore his desktop space. Running at 1200+ by whatever screen res on a 21 inch monitor doesn't even seem to give him enough real estate. He might find this usefull because you get a significant space increas, especially if you move the icons far away. The lack of functionality is a hinderance too. I would like to see all of the normal system commands available when right clicking an object/icon. It would also be convenient if you could control the system more intimately, without having to restart it. Some examples include: being able to create a new document, click and drag objects from the desktop to a window, select which program to open a file with, control which system icons appear, change the screen saver, etc. Note: you can change some system properties while Sphere is running by hitting the "Show Desktop" quicklaunch button.

ah. thanks.

I agree. Barely any noticible performance drop and I'm running on 2000, not XP.

Why is it that many drugs, including some of the most potent, contain the methyl group?
-
how to drugs damage the brain?

Foods aren't really foreign to your body. Glucose, starches, fat, protein... they all exist and are porduced by your body already. I don't have an organ that produces amphetamine, or nicotine, or codeine, etc. I don't think he is ignorant for realizing that disrupting your body's chemical balance or altering the way it functions with chemicals is not healthy. -
It's windy today and I noticed that the water level in the toilet is lower than normal. I've also noticed on other days that the level fluctuates along with the sound of the wind outside. None of the other faucets and such seem to be affected. My guess is that as the wind blows over the drains all along the street a small vacuum/sucking effect is created. Anyone know the real answer or have other ideas?

The connection between intelligence and music is obvious in my school, and I think it has been observed all over. So, do you play an instrument? What one? I'm guessing that a lot of people here do, or at least really enjoy music. I play saxophone. <brag>I played baritone sax for the Kimmel Center (where the philly orchestra plays) Youth Jazz Ensemble.</brag>

1. Being smart means being bored. 2. Most homework is useless and unnecessary, but if you want good grades to stay in high level classes you need to do it. 3. My chemistry teacher is the biggest bitch/dyke in the world (man hater to the max) and we do crappy labs. 4. They use macs. 5. The entire district administration is a bunch of pinko commies with their heads up their asses. We are a PUBLIC SCHOOL with UNIFORMS. 6. I can't schedule band because my math is only offered at one period (even though it could easily be another time). This means I have to take it after school for a shorter time. 7. The social aspect which includes jocks, wiggers, "niggas/ganstas", and just plain jackasses. 8. There is no Latin class. 9. Lunch is too short (for the legnth of the lines). 10. It starts too early.

I hate my school's science fair. Your project has to have some kind of quantitive data that you can analyze. Just building something cool and explaining how it works won't even come close to getting you credit. I really want to do something with vortex rings, but I can't really think of a way to make it scientific method-esque.

Not to mention that it would just oxidize your sword, if not blow up when you put it on. Better stick with curari.

What is an example of an organic peroxide, and why is it so dangerous?

Pretty boring windows BG: My linux one isn't even worth posting because I use fluxbox as a WM.

^Yes, pure water (unless I can get the sulfuric acid like bud suggested). That's why i was wondering about using house electricity. I think that is AC though, so I will have to check with my dad.
-
Yes, you get Cl and O at the anode and H at the cathode. The Na swims around in the water somewhere. I don't want to mix salt in though because I thought it would be cool to take a hit of pure oxygen. (so obviously having Cl mixed in there is not good).

Well, i think our currency is on the rise and the economy is getting better, especially with christmas on the way. If i lived in another country I would consider exchanging some of my money for the dollar, then when its value increases change back.

Budullewraagh, how would you set up this reaction at home? I'm thinking that you would need a bong-like container too put the KI solution in. Would you see the top so that the gas can't escape out? What state is the KCl in? (I imaging the I2 is a precipitate). edit: BTW, I hate how in school science classes you never get to do any practical experiments/procedures like this one. They all demonstrate simple things like "Mg in HCl makes H2 bubbles that will pop when you hold a burning splint near them."

Thanks, 5614. I'm going to experiment with wiring the batteries in a combination of serial and parallel circuits to see which works best.

^Look at the post directly above yours.

I can't wait to make it and take some pics; I have all the parts ready. Only problem is that it's not clear so you can't see what's going on. BTW, where can you get sulfuric acid? Home Depot? Or are there any other more common acids that will work (HCl is easy to get but then it will be an O and Cl mix at the cathode, which won't be nearly as fun/safe).

Well, supposing you had some iodine salts, such as KI, could you get the iodine through electrolysis?
-
These people are apparantly offering 4-8 g iodine crystals for $12, which is cheap enough to me. Only ships inside US, probably due to some restrictions on chemical shipment and such.

Are there any relationships between voltage, current, properties of the electrolyte, and such that I should be aware of for accuracy's sake?
