Why "The God Particle"? [Answered]
benevolenthellion replied to Arnaud Antoine ANDRIEU's topic in Trash Can
the Higs Boson gives particles mass and has nothing to do with a God. It was called the God particle by someone and it has unfortunately stuck, causing many an argument with the religious eccentrics whom only took it for name value. -
You're mixing awareness and consciousness. Awareness comes from adapting ones actions based on ones surrounding and the to events that involve it, like how bacteria will move away from a threat in a rudimentary way. Consciousness is choosing weather or not to act, eg; I need to move away from this moving car, it is advantageous to my survive yet I chose not to fro reasons that are my own.

Proving your plane ride is real with physics
benevolenthellion replied to pouyat777's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
so the uncertainty principle, you know the location from which you depart and the location to which you arrive but you can't know the exact journey taken. -
Proving your plane ride is real with physics

are you implying that (unless outwardly observed), from the moment you get on the plane and the moment you get off you, the jet and everything else is in a super position? -

good point, Though I do find creation theory absurd I cannot simply dismiss it until totally dis-proven, science is - after all, finding the least wrong answer through common sense, testing and speculation and then more testing. when I say higher intelligence I don't necessarily mean the great fella on the sky dictating events which are clearly effects of circumstance and entropy, I'm simply generalizing all of the "God" figures together, or not even a life form for that matter. I can't agree that the universe was created for the sole purpose for human life, there is far too much evidence stacked against it, and I pass most religious stories of as exactly that, stories. All that said it still does not rule out an outside force in the universe's creation. Heck, even if it were an accident like the the great green arkleseizure theory from the Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy.

Aren't those whom outright disbelieve in a higher intelligence equally as broken? It's possible to exist so why shouldn't it?

hedgehogs' road sense
benevolenthellion replied to Gian's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
less road sense, more move away from the huge object, sense, which I think existed way before cars. -
I would like to point out that science is not about being right, it is more about being the least wrong.

tons of people believe it and it massively hinders progress?

There is no such thing as nothing.
benevolenthellion replied to __Ben__'s topic in General Philosophy
by calling something nothing you are there fore giving it substance thus making it something, so calling the absolute absence on any particle and wave noting makes it a thing. What's more, given the quantum fluxing nature of the universe, merely trying to observe nothing changes the outcome and then can no longer be called nothing. -
then who will serve you at mc donalds? (not to imply that everyone who works am mcD is stupid)

when is a strawberry dead?
benevolenthellion replied to benevolenthellion's topic in General Philosophy
The fruit, though don't take the whole strawberry thing too seriously, it's simply a place holder for the debate to when should you classify something as truly dead -
when is a strawberry dead?
benevolenthellion replied to benevolenthellion's topic in General Philosophy
This is why its such a fun topic to debate, when can one truly classify death and on what scale? -
Can they? Theoretically yes. Will they? The odd of another intelligent life form looking in out specific dot of the universe is extremely slim. Though given enough time anything that can physically happen eventually will happen

Already perfect ?
benevolenthellion replied to Externet's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Because true bipeds like us are fairly rare The general evolution of the spine isn't overly suited to the strain, thus back injuries being one of the top causes of work absences. The best improvement would be better lower lumbar support -
