  1. Hm... there was a promise of authorship...
  2. I wrote a long thing on this situation and it got deleted when my internet went out, so this is the lazy cliffnotes version. Also -- not 100% this is the right place for this so feel free to move yada yada Applied for paid research position over summer. Original head researcher I applied for hired two other people, sent me to work for her head researcher husband. He asked me to volunteer for two weeks to make sure I like it, then I get paid. Head researcher goes to India for two months on religious thing, I train during this time. He comes back, says there's no money to pay me, asks me to work for college credit. Maybe I get paid if grant goes through in a few months. I just talked to my other boss about this and she was like "they can't do this to you this is exploitative rabble rabble." I emailed the head researcher to schedule a meeting to talk about this, not sure what to say. I really like the people I work with, but really need to get paid eventually. Am worried I'm wasting my time, though I'm learning stuff (pcr, rna extraction, greenhouse) Thanks for good suggestions.
  3. Sorry for being random and dumb, I don't know if this is the best place for this but if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be cool. I have had some weird feelings of pressure and whatnot in my head correlated with memory loss and anxiety stemming from some medication complications I took around four or five years ago. I don't have a gen physician per se any more, and don't want to go through the hassle of getting one, then getting a recommendation for a specialist and then getting an mri, then going back, (partly I'm worried about having something like this on my medical record for some reason, partly $$$)-- so I'm thinking about just going to this place that does MRIs, paying cash, and then, I don't know, putting the results on the internet, or just mailing them to specialists or something, and being like "I'll give you money if you tell me if somethings wrong with me". Is this dumb? Would an MRI tell me if I had an anneurism or something? I had a catscan not long after my medication interaction and it came back clear -- is an MRI pointless? Again, sorry if this is a waste of time.
  4. Hi. I need to think up an experment to run in a research forest using either pressure guage, or using an infrared camera with which to infer air temperature via IR radiation off of foliage. The professor gave me the example of a student using a CO2 tester next to foliage, using the hypothesis that there would be less CO2 during the day because of photosynthesis. Sounds simple right? But I am super lost. I bought an atmospheric science textbook for this, but am just not comming up with anything; so here I am as a last resort as my deadline is approaching. I don't know if this is the right place for this, I cross posted (sorry!) this somewhere else but didn't get any responses and thought it might have been the wrong forum. If anyone can give me any push in the right direction I'd super appreciate it.
  5. Hey, So I'm doing this research/internship deal -- long story short I told the professor my knowlege of Atmospheric Science was very limited. I have to devise a study to test a hypothesis (or three), but am having a very hard time finding a testable hypothesis. I purchased an atmospheric science textbook (which I would need for next year), and all I have come up with is the following: ****** pressure= temperature X density X constant air pressure ~ temperature X density This expression says that the pressure of the gas is proportional to its density, as long as its temperature does not change. This daily (diurnal) fluctuation of pressure appears to be due primarily to the absorption of solar energy by ozone in the upper atmosphere and by water vapor in the lower atmosphere. The warming and cooling of the air creates density oscillations known as thermal (or atmospheric) tides that show up small pressure changes near the earth’s surface. usually indicates clearing weather or fair weather, whereas a steady drop in atmospheric pressure (a falling barometer) often signals the approach of a storm with inclement weather. **** I'm having a hard time turning anything into a testable hypothesis. The prof said I could use either a pressure sensor or a temperature gauge (thermal camera), though I haven't asked if I could use both or could use some other sort of input such as NOAA data. He gave me the example of a former student who was using a CO2 gauge, with the hypothesis that CO2 levels around leaves of trees would be lower during the day because of photosynthesis. If anyone can help me, or point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
