Just a couple of evolution questions

well, (correct me if im wrong, im new 2 ) a mutation is basically a floop that either works to a creatures advantage or really screws it up. An example would be darwins birds, they are all from different islands and have different beaks and diets but appear to be the same species. Well hope that helped!
