Part of what it does is also weight individual citizen votes in smaller population states more heavily than those of larger population states. I suppose you could do literally that sans Electors, but I can't imagine most would go for it, were the weighting so obvious. I guess my thinking is that the more insidious side of ochlocracy is tyranny by the numbers. Not necessarily a demagogue or fanaticism holding the majority of the population in thrall. and yeah, there is a crap ton of inertia involved. Pluses, minuses, Pareto efficiency, yadda, yadda, yadda, mixed in.

Do you think animals have less genetic variety than humans?
Endy0816 replied to SiameseSam's topic in Speculations
Random events may not have an even distribution in their effect. ie. 5 random numbers 1-10(Random.org) 3 8 4 9 3 Due to sheer luck some numbers were lost and one number came up twice. Were three to represent a person with bluish skin then many of the next generation's population will end up looking like this guy: Anyways back to OP's question, this should give a good overview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Face_perception Basically involves how you are wired and what your brain subsequently trains at from birth onwards. Personally I would say I've always been able to recognize my own pets even at a distance after having them for awhile. I'm sure other animals could be individually identified were you exposed to them often enough. -
There are coil guns out there if that is what you mean. I'm not certain if they can work via permanent magnets, but electromagnets, yes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coilgun

The founders wanted to limit the chance of both mob rule and rule via a small group. Has been modified over the years though. A number of states have requirements that their electors vote based on who wins the popular vote.

I would say there was probably an initial leader who may have answered to that name during his lifetime. Basing this on how other religions developed historically and more recently. Most have a central figure heavily involved in the founding.

Feedback desired on an expansion respresentation

Thank you everyone. I'll look at the links posted and give zoomed images a shot. -
Represents superclusters as 'stationary' and the distance between them as what is increasing with time. IMO other illustrations are much more representative of reality, but my hope is that this might provide an alternative illustration as an aid to comprehension.

I just thought the link provided a good overview. I'm sure they published it mainly to ease fears and that impacted the wording. Not a huge puzzle. One of the subsequent cells used telomerase to lengthen its telomere and passed the longer telomere on. Now why some do this and others do not and how that relates to development in general is probably well worth studying. I just see telomere length as a solved issue as far as cloning itself is concerned. Depending on planned lifespan of the clone and on how old the original is, you choose to lengthen or not prior to starting. If you are talking about cattle which are going to end up on the table in a couple of years it might not be worth it. If you are talking about a human it is probably worth the trouble. The bigger issue is likely the DNA not being on quite the right step of the process. You see similar issues with mammal parthenogenesis.

When I looked at I didn't see that it was the best explanation for these traits.

I think introducing new brain cells might be the better option. Not terribly hard. We know it happens naturally, whether or not we can manage it deliberately yet. More practical than dealing with all the problems and risks involved with a brain transplant. @Fiveworlds: http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/SafetyHealth/AnimalCloning/ucm055512.htm#Myth6 and note we can lengthen the cell's telomeres prior to starting the whole process. They don't always or probably often bother, but speaking for myself, if I were shopping for a body upgrade I would go for the full package.

Yeah, Light's speed in a vacuum should be what is said to be constant(an unchanging numerical value). We tend to erroneously call c the speed of light and leave off the "in a vacuum" part of the definition. Might want to think of light's velocity in terms of c/n(speed of light in a vacuum / refractive index). Keeping in mind that information transfer will always be at c or less.

They dispatch other things than just corneas. Your eyes are worth some money. They're not as valuable as other organs but still worth something to someone.

why most of space videos & images are CGI?

If you go to the 4 second mark, the dog jumping and then the girl swinging are in 4 fps. I'm honestly surprised they didn't just use false color imagery again. -
They store more than the one thing. Who's going to toss something that can still be used by students and researchers?

The eyes banked are also utilized for research purposes.

Provided you accelerate to near lightspeed velocities slowly enough, yes.

Yeah, you shouldn't release someone's info but it does tend to be fairly easy to find out. I try and dox myself every so often. Cut some of the more obvious connections between my RL and online identities. ...and thank you for reminding me to do just that -
lol, I've been hearing that one a few times as well. I was kind of thinking it might be an attack directed by China against a Japanese company, with the movie providing a superficial reason. I mean it might be because of a movie poking fun at NK's leader and potentially undermining his cult of personality, but I doubt that is the sole reason. If anything the attack called more attention to the movie than it would have received otherwise(which might lead one to speculate another country's reason for the attack). and yeah, I do think it is a poor premise. It is like the CIA plotting to attack the shy kid at school. I don't think friendship is the answer to every problem, but in this case seems like it could work wonders.

Yeah, I generally take a look at Google if a post is questionable. Should attempt to give benefit of the doubt though you do need to know who(or what) you are responding to. Several who have done poorly elsewhere have done reasonably well here. It only seems that the worst of the worst are virtually foregone conclusions. -

The thing about using only part of your brain is a myth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_percent_of_brain_myth We'd see outside influences impacting our Universe if we were in a brain(viruses, rna, etc). Most "Universe within a Universe" hypotheses have similar issues.

some questions from non-science guy
Endy0816 replied to godofgamblers's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
Well the physical state of maximum entropy is in one sense a very organized state. It is also a state without any life. Applying our purely human labels to Universe states can be problematic at best. Honestly I'm personally doubtful that such notions as beginning and end are even applicable. May continually progress through different phases instead. Not in real time or not at the same level of detail as the Universe itself. "the map is not the territory" -Alfred Korzybski
