Hope to go round the whole Earth eventually but have already been across where the Pacific rim would be. Would make for cheaper launches.

Kind of off topic here but... there are escape procedures. Hasn't been a US submarine lost in decades though. Stringent safety programs in place. We have slightly greater numbers and Russia's navy is better geared for defense than offense. Main issue is their Diesel-Electrics' inability to remain submerged indefinitely. They are quiet running on batteries but have to surface at some point. With the ASVAB(Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), some sections might be broadly similar but others like, "Automotive and Shop Information" are clearly not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armed_Services_Vocational_Aptitude_Battery#Computerized_test_format But yes, you can do miserably low on an IQ test, and still make a stellar soldier or doctor. Maybe you had a poor test day or really applied yourself later.

That's what they're trying to do. Gotta call it like it is. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Right-wing_media_groups#Must_runs Tell people you are the only source of truth. Have the same stories coming at them from multiple seemingly independent sources. Find an enemy for them to feel united against. Despite us all being descended from migrants, migrants are the problem... The Military, a large number of gun enthusiasts sworn to the constitution, is going to take power and seize everyone's guns... We know most of you are in some way benefiting from the ACA, stamps, medicaid or other programs, but these are the greatest threats to our way of life... Even if we end up disagreeing, as long as you are thinking critically about who and why someone might be telling you something, you'll have made my day.

Ugh likely just some of our many groups of wingnuts. We have many here who have convinced themselves that any form of even vague human decency will somehow harm them. If you think about it even in terms of economic cost of having the populous in poor health or abusing ER and skipping on payment, this logic breaks down fast. I know PragerU which is unsurprisingly not a University was doing something similar here. They hope to brainwash us all. Hopefully doesn't get much traction.

I stated the opposite... If a deity did it though they too need to offer up some evidence. Muons are effectively a natural way to observe the passage of time and distance contracted at high fractions of c. If more last than would otherwise what explains that? Well said. +1

A weird idea to achieve relativistivic speed
Endy0816 replied to Science98's topic in Quantum Theory
lol I do just enough so can think in terms of moving traffic around rather than moving through traffic. I am sure much more than that would give anyone a headache though. -
Yeah, as far as we know we can't travel to the past. We are getting close being able to print organs anyways. Offers many potential benefits over other options and doesn't break the laws of physics.
-
Anything new is assumed incorrect until proven otherwise and you haven't done so. It isn't on Science to disprove your hypothesis. More muons arrive to the surface of Earth from the upper atmosphere than their half-life should allow. Explain that. Relativity can. http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/Relativ/muon.html you need to be able to match that and the other evidence for it and then do it one better. If all you can do is predict the same things that isn't useful. Might as well stick with what we have. More generally the Big Bang simply means the Universe is going from a hot dense state to a less dense state. We don't know how it got to be in a hot dense state so logically it could have been the deity of your choice. Science does have to base things on evidence though. There's not some set amount of time or distance in the first place. It doesn't have to go anywhere. Your clock counts a number of divisions or increments. If there are fewer of those then logically your clock will reflect that fact. There are clocks that don't rely on motion. Rather they count alternating amounts. You can do meters / (meters/second) or you can just do 1/(1/second) and obtain time either way.

A weird idea to achieve relativistivic speed

I like to do this the other way around when driving. I am stationary, the ground and most things are instead moving. -
Link goes to a company's About section.

Recommend thinking about it in terms of activation energy for the chemical reaction taking place.
-
If you travel a shorter route you measure a lower value. The clocks are working correctly. Clocks measure time passing. Naturally if less time passes in their frame they record that. Has also been shown with natural muons.
-
We have to adjust the GPS clocks to account for Time dilation so... If the Universe doesn't work like you think it must, it isn't the Universe that is wrong.

Hypervelocity Supermassive Black Hole
Endy0816 replied to Airbrush's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
Ballpark estimate of the BH and accretion disk is at less than 1 ly. There's about 4 ly between just us and Alpha Centauri to put this in perspective. Massive but could still sail between solar systems without a problem. If it did happen to run into something though it'd be much like you might imagine. Vacuum cleaner with a fearsome accretion disk around it. -

Accretion disk is further out. Still space is big. Would be cool to see a gas giant or star get rammed, instead of the normal slow loss of velocity and/or random inward orbit. -

so I am interested in "systems security"
Endy0816 replied to peterwlocke's topic in Computer Science
From the sounds of it, you are interested in Ethical Hacking. More along the lines of knowing how hacking is done so that you might secure a system from attack. This site has a good overview and covers different techniques used/involved: https://www.greycampus.com/opencampus/ethical-hacking/ Strictly speaking hacking is simply you trying different things in order to gain unauthorized access of some sort. You don't need training though it can certainly help. Trying to find the hole in someone's logic with the least amount of effort. Keep in mind the unauthorized access is the goal. If social engineering works better than attempting to brute force a password, expect the hacker to do what works best. -
Yeah, if you look at how much our food and animals have changed it is crazy. Bigger, Sweeter, Less seeds, Coloration Were they around, our ancestors would be hard pressed to even recognize some of them. Can easily see how ability to breed or lack thereof could lead to dramatic changes in a natural setting.

Confused about the Archimedes Principle
Endy0816 replied to Veritas-in-Caritate's topic in Classical Physics
The upward force is equal to the weight of the displaced fluid. If you look at the formula: Fb = ρ x g x V. You'll see density ρ which equals some Mass/Volume so the units for volume cancel out. Leaves you Mass times g or just force on both sides. -
Will A.I destroy more jobs than it creates?
Endy0816 replied to Obsessed With Gaming's topic in Computer Science
AGI maybe. Ceases to be a tool. Hopefully sees us as partners. . -
Is there anything that might involve science to help your community?

Weight is mass multiplied by the local gravitational acceleration. So as mass increases, weight increases; but they remain two different things. To bring things back to cooking, a recipe written in terms of mass can be used anywhere in the Universe with no additional math.

Yeah I would say hull shape mainly. They can also roll like a tin can depending on surface conditions. Interesting question.

Cookies nonsense and other changes
Endy0816 replied to studiot's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
You get a ton of info from users, so realistically you could still reasonably identify them with that. IP address, browser/system info, browsing times, mouse movements/click timings, writing style, and whatever users happen to directly provide. Wouldn't be perfect but be enough for more typical uses by sites. I really see cookies as being the better option though as the data is there is limited and under your direct control. ... and there are or were at least a number of oddball ways to store info on a user's machine. Not sure what all is around now. Worse case there's always cached assets you could encode something in.
