By dimension, science means a measurable span. You can measure a span of time, therefore, it is a dimension. The equations/results are also hyperbolic. You can't claim to agree with GR and disagree with that. Theory also has different definition in Science, meaning something backed by loads of evidence, rigorous testing and a model. You have a hypothesis. Acceleration is like an angle. I can give you all three angles of a triangle, but you will not be able to tell me how long a side(span of time/distance) is based on that alone.

Gravity - Fluid Dynamics in Curved Time-space
Endy0816 replied to physicsismylife's topic in Classical Physics
Gravity is common to both, but virtual shape of the 3D black hole is different than that representation. More of a bubble or void. Keep in mind this is a place for 2-way discussion. Science is about sharing knowledge and generally whoever does the work of proving an idea gets the credit. -
Da, he's better known for Dune but I thought the Hive was well done. Shows the wildly different way a hive would function and the almost inevitable conflict we would have with them. Naked mole-rats do form similar colonies so not impossible for mammals though it seems like conditions need to be right. Again the relatedness is skewed.

Helstrom's Hive, is a good fictional take on it for humans. Based on chemicals and specialized workers rather than something like the Borg. Realistically sex determination is different for our species though. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplodiploidy Some things make others more likely.

The production of new currency(as a reward) for essentially validating transactions. Like Sensei says, GPU's can be used to handle the processing.

A Fistfull of Dollars - which language to watch it in?

Shot silent. Any version is a dub. -
Well... yes... I don't think death is absolute, but there are a number of obstacles to overcome. Long-term need to artificially recreate the massive selection bias that led to us existing in the first place or master actual repair ourselves. Can't depend on a repair manual in need of repair.

Telomerase is well known and understood... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telomerase It isn't a cure all though. Increases a natural count down timer. That's not hugely complex. Right now they are looking at moving to clinical trials, for drugs targeting senescent cells, but going to take time. Need to come to grips with the idea of mortality. www.cnn.com/2017/09/04/health/anti-aging-senolytic-drugs-clinical-trials-study/index.html

Cells become senescent(stop dividing and other changes) based on the length. Has been found that removing senescent cells can lead to improvement. Cells can simply lengthen their telomeres too, but we are not good enough at handling cancer yet to safely use that route. Ultimately we'll need complex cellular repair, lifespan can be increased in the meantime though.

Compost tea is similar. I read it wasn't actually all that effective though.

African lungfish circulatory system
Endy0816 replied to Hrvoje's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Angiogenesis occurs normally in healing. I think it is normally limited to particular cell types, but all the cells share the same DNA so... You may need to look at embryology or maybe even seek a professional in the field. Honestly, I don't know what to tell you besides saying I've seen great evidence for successive changes over time and none at all for something to spontaneously occur and somehow get itself into the germline. -
Was in response to your question about body and organ development. They are using 'programming' to mean the cell is stuck reading the dna one particular way. Demo of self-assembly. Same basic concept the enzymes and such work on. Maybe someday you'll be able to set out your bricks and mortar and they can go to work on their own

@ravell The Universe has a radius greater than its age alone might suggest. Need to also consider the time light takes to reach us. Galaxies will appear younger as a result.
-
Do you recall any symbols associated with the equation? Kind of sounds like thermal conductivity, but I'm not sure that is what you are thinking of.
-
It's kind of grim, but the 'fix' is what we're watching occur. Invisible hand of the market is countering the attempted wage, currency and price controls.

Not at all. Ethical behavior should come from within; otherwise you are only doing it to be rewarded or escape punishment.

"Rogue AI violates UN Law regarding deep sea mining - More at 11" You guys scare me sometimes. Even an AI can only do so much so fast and it is still going to need to consider opportunity costs. Take care of humans or devote everything towards improving yourself. Decision could go either way. More probable is AI where it makes economic sense and humans otherwise. An AI could run a company, but would be incapable of satisfying a demand for human-made paintings. There may be some kind of UBI, but probably going to be the future's poverty level. People wanting more will be able to / have to find work of some sort.
-
It will cost something in practical terms. If you want to subsidize others, you can do that, but you can't ignore the cost. Depends on what the AIs goals are. They may well not be rational and possible they won't even notice us. https://wiki.lesswrong.com/wiki/Paperclip_maximizer Personally I think a merger is more likely though. Generally we all get up in arms, but then the new world ends up looking alot like the old one.

They're going to need, time, resources and land; to do all that. Even if the labor is effectively free, the other inputs will cost. May not be capitalism, bit there will be something. We could certainly do better right now if we were willing to sacrifice a bit. Main issue is externalities are not taken into account with pricing at present. If something like the environment or social ills is not factored in, then the system is blind to them.

Scarcity will continue to exist. We'll still require some sort of economic system to determine how we allocate resources.

Why is time called a 4th dimension?
Endy0816 replied to trevorjohnson32's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
Just curious, are there any metrics that involve {d/c} instead? -
Has time travel been discovered/harnessed yet?
Endy0816 replied to MegaDestructor's topic in Physics
Might be able to meet yourself, then go on to become the future self you meet. I suspect Universe doesn't really allow time travel backwards though.
