  1. I feel troubleshooting aspect of the job is where engineering knowledge can come into play. At other times you could admittedly be replaced by a well trained monkey.
  2. Do atomic clocks still use the formula: seconds = # of cycles / (cycles/second) or something else?
  3. Agreed. You're lucky. I have to keep mine rolled up. A cutie walked by and people thought the circus was in town.
  4. There are Ozone generators.
  5. lol, what I was thinking
  6. Phase change might work okay on other worlds where the pressure difference is greater. Probably won't be Nitrogen though.
  7. Codex Seraphinianus provides a modern take on the concept https://www.pinterest.com/explore/codex-seraphinianus/
  8. You only have at most a year to file a patent on something you make public knowledge. http://info.legalzoom.com/invention-becomes-public-knowledge-before-file-patent-application-21910.html Fraud aside, a patent could be successfully challenged on those grounds.
  9. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluing_(fabric) Mostly posting this so people don't think I'm nuts suggesting dying something blue to make it look white :} Does run along the same lines of John's earlier mention of optical brighteners though.
  10. May want to look at bluing. Mrs. Stewart's is supposed to be good.
  11. Independent
  12. @Mike: Any mass attracts other mass. If you want to do something 'bench-top' might try repeating Cavendish experiment.
  13. Piers Anthony, had something similar in 'Bearing an Hourglass', though involved time reversal there.
  14. Your measurements will agree with that of Earth whenever and wherever you are in the same reference frame. Can we speak in terms of less time passing instead of using the term 'losing time'? One can be fixed, the other cannot.
  15. Yeah, really helpful to draw triangle(s) to represent what is seen by who. Logic works, just have to avoid mistakes.
  16. This. Definitely checking with someone local first.
  17. You might look at cooling scuba tanks. Dry ice has the portability and lower upfront cost you are after. Pressure reduction as the air leaves the tank will lower the temperature as well. Really need to consult someone local though. Potential for safety issues and mechanical trouble.
  18. Not going to work out as being a paradox if you go by the math/reality.
  19. You can even see some of it without spending much. Try to expand a bottle you've removed some of the air out of. Timing the sinking bottles with varying levels of water/air.
  20. already happened: https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2015/11/11/theres-a-good-reason-protesters-at-the-university-of-missouri-didnt-want-the-media-around/?utm_term=.fb8653d133b8 I think we just need to sit down and figure out the grey areas. There can be an unavailability of physical private space and in some cases legally someone can come right in for any or no reason. Mirror of the dearth of public space online.
  21. Depends public or private property. We really need some actual rulings on where and when an area can be declared a safe-space.
  22. Probably fine then, most of the University sites in NY are in/around New York City itself.
  23. I know all things No, I'm only hazarding a guess based on your profile information and what you've provided us here. Most even possibly contaminated areas end up being listed online as part of FUSRAP, Superfund, etc. WSJ's FUSRAP based page for example: http://projects.wsj.com/waste-lands
  24. Probably fine but which hall were you in?
  25. So members have differing beliefs, some of which you respect?
