I would think the boiler would have some kind of backup system for a loss of communication scenario. Do you know any of the info for the boiler itself?

Yeah, I can understand the import issue. What I'm not understanding is why work didn't start on retrofitting or building new steady output plants(fossil fuels, nuclear) earlier. Is importing electricity directly an option? I know tariffs would add to the costs, but not sure on what physical infrastructure exists.

We've touched on different aspects of this a few times now, I was just curious of what the politics were that led up to it.

Meh, because you know if he had a firearm he could have done far more damage. Thank FSM, insanity begets stupidity. He could have just bought one but instead attacked officers for theirs.

How does the Facial Nerve actually work.

You can do that for some muscles, I don't know about the face though. but you could fake it -
Is this accepted by mainstream psychology?

http://www.nature.com/news/2008/080411/full/news.2008.751.html These kinds of experiments, I suspect(or do I?). I've also seen it described as the brain telling you a story. That "you" decided to do this or that. -
Fats and water can somewhat. Not sure NASA meals would still have the same capability though. Main issue for anything that continually removes CO2 would be the bulk. In the movie/book he also has the fictional Oxygenator, a device that produces Oxygen from CO2. In real life, NASA has developed MOXIE which does the same(though at only about 50% the rate as the Oxygenator).

Day π: Hartwell business and organizations put up scarecrows for the season. Great to see the community spirit. Family went Zip-lining to wrap up the trip. Great fun, really recommend it if you ever get the chance. On the way back: Tree that Owns Itself Not entirely factual, but story is that the Tree(now its descendant) owns the land it is on. Google recommended visiting it via search(and it alone). Figured one should do what Googlebot tells you. ...and that's a wrap. Been meaning to finish this up for a few days, just took a bit to get back into the swing of things at home. Hope you've enjoyed reading along.

Relative to coal or natural gas. Almost all the plants in UK have planned end dates in the 2020s. Several are already on extensions.

Mostly a return on investment issue. Keep in mind the strike price is set for about 7 years down the road from now. If wholesale costs are higher than strike price, you'll be saving money. If the wholesale price is less you'll be paying more, but for greener energy. Contract also requires decommissioning costs to be paid for by the company, rather than the government. Easier to pay for something over time than to cough up another large lump sum.

Artificial Intelligence Machine Gets Testy With Its Programmer

It really isn't understanding what you are saying. Certainly not expressing any emotions. You have a database(movie lines in this case) and the algorithm is determining word probability based on your input. This is an easy way to play with it: http://www.google.com/campaigns/gonegoogle/masters-demo/index.html type a bit, give it a minute and a few of the great writers will come along and collaborate with you. -
Krossos doesn't appear to have been the name of a deity. There are several similar ones out there(pantheism = ancient soap opera), but none I could find matching that exact spelling. You should seek counseling for the rest.

Sadly I felt the need to check... While human sized condoms are not recommend for elephant intercourse, but they could probably at least stretch enough to fit. Not going to be especially comfortable, however, and one may wish to avoid being near uncomfortable horny bull elephants.

Hard evidence for other universes?

Yeah, her name keeps cropping up in similar circumstances... I'm going to wait for something more substantial before reaching a conclusion. -
Day -2: Looking Backwards Kayaked over to Andersonville Island, location of an old(for US ) ghost town in the area. Whole area was flooded with the construction of the Hartwell Dam. Can still see the old road beds in several locations. Fairly narrow and more linear than what you would expect to see naturally. Brick photobomb Didn't see any ruins in the area, I think most of them are underwater now. Watched these guys fish for most of the time I was there. Heading back across the way. Round trip was about 3.2 miles(5.1 km). Pretty decent for exploration. You neither have to trek overland nor worry about it being on private property. Random Pics

Yeah, think of the balloon analogy, but now imagine what you would witness looking out from one of those little dots. You don't see yourself as moving, but you will see the rest of the dots as moving away from you.

Wanted to showcase some of the more interesting things that I've been doing and seeing lately. Day 0 Georgia Guides Sky Below Photographing an X As close as I could come. Honestly. Any monuments I make, pay for, take part in planning, etc. will all have a well defined FRONT. Stone Guide Interesting and mysterious monument. Featured on the show, "Monumental Mysteries" here. Family happened to be vacationing in the area and I thought it worth a look. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Guidestones

Can Science explain everything in the universe without a God?
Endy0816 replied to Henry McLeod's topic in Religion
What we might be able to develop a theory for, is one detailing what we won't be able to explain(barring change). Still don't see the unexplainable bits as necessitating a deity. We used to believe thunder was caused by assorted deities as well. @SillyBilly: I don't think there is some monolithic correct way. Circumstances vary. Do what you can and trust the method to sort out the relative validity. Enough testing and observation will reasonably prove most things one way or the other. There will probably be posthumans someday working on disproving or refining the Theories we have now(and coming up with more of their own). -
Can Science explain everything in the universe without a God?
Endy0816 replied to Henry McLeod's topic in Religion
Mean more in the sense of: Theory of Evolution, Theory of Relativity. The crux of the Scientific Method consists of observations and/or experimentation. Make your hypothesis and see if it checks out or continues to check out with the world at large. If it does you keep it, if it doesn't you toss it out with the bathwater. Repeat. I would say it depends. Unquestioned proof is not the point of Science. We want people to keep looking into a Theory and making it stronger as a result of their investigations or even give us cause to scrap it altogether. the Great Ultan pops down tomorrow and shows documentary evidence of how He created Everything and we will chuck Evolution on out the window(keeping in mind we'd only be adopting the Theory of Ultan instead). Until then we keep going with the best we have. -
Can Science explain everything in the universe without a God?
Endy0816 replied to Henry McLeod's topic in Religion
Theory in Science, means something backed by mountains of evidence. Dogma is for Religions. You are supposed to continue to question scientific theories. Can't move forward if everyone accepts things on faith. In general there may well be parts of the Universe unassailable by the Scientific method, reliant as it is upon evidence. Have only been able to see so far backwards, speculate so far forwards. Can't see across the event horizons. I'm hoping there is some more oddball stuff out there. Unusual oddities of the Universe are how we've been advancing lately. Good cause to think that this will continue to be the case. -
Maybe check their properties see if anything stands out(type, security/sharing settings)?
