I sleep very deeply, I cannot be wakened by water sometimes (i was taken to the hospital one time because of that, im 100% healthy)

In the mornings I have noticed when I am being woken up I am STILL IN MY DREAMS.

For instance this morning I was still in my dream in the manner that I was trying to find the second part of "getting out of bed" and I had no idea what the meaning of the phrase was, nor where I could find it and I had the understanding that I already had the first part of "getting out of bed" not knowing what the first part was either. Both parts were somehow part of my last dream and I am not sure where I was looking but I was definately trying to figure it out what and why and how, etc.

...

Does anyone know anything about this?

I have just come off Diazepam and Alprazolam (both taken for recreational use and for sleep after heavy stimulant using, also on a daily basis - Mephedrone on a regular scale and weekends occasional cocaine use with ketamine and stronger Benzodiazepines such as Midazolam and Bromazepam) after having three seizures after a 48 hour binge. HIGHLY stupid decision cost me a lot, luckily not my life.

Since 3 days after my seizure (around a week ago) my nights of sleep at home at my parents house in the countryside have been extremely broken, usually including me not getting any sleep until around 4-5am. When I DO FINALLY fall asleep, I will wake irrregularly and consistently throughout the night. Every time I wake up, I will still definitively be dreaming, although I will either have my eyes closed and be visualizing the dream or my eyes will be open and the room becomes part of my dream. I will usually talk throughout, and I can remember with surprising detail what I say when I have my eyes open.

When I awake and have my eyes open, I still feel as though I am inside the dream. I will talk to the people who were in my dream, and if the light is bad and I see things that look like people in the corner of my vision, these objects will turn into people very convincingly. The strangest thing is I will accept them in my peripheral vision for a surprisingly lengthy period of time before questioning those things.

When I awake and I have my eyes closed, different problems occur. One is the space and distance perception of objects in my dream and those in my room. The bed is an obvious one, and in all my dreams I am laid down in my bed. However, the distance from the floor to the ground changes in my dream and does not in real life. Therefore I 'SEE' in my dream a floor that is further away than it actually is, leading to a confusion between two parts of the brain. Logic does not enter into the process until later, it almost seems as though it is delayed while the brain tries to cope with the transition between real and dream world.

I want to know what this is called, what kind of treatment is available and how long lasting it is if it has been provoked by long and abuse level use of a prescritption strength drug like Alprazolam or Diazepam.

Thanks!

I have noticed that sometimes, more so after taking Aderall(amphetamine salts) however, sometimes without, I will experience a very bizarre phenomena while trying to go to sleep or when waking up.

I play World of Warcraft or surf the web for a few hours before bed. When I finally hit the sack for the night, when I close my eyes my thoughts seems to involuntarily go back to whatever I was doing before, and I "SEE" it very vividly as though it were really happening. Sometimes I will be laying in bed "thinking" that I am playing wow, chatting with friends online, looking things up on Google...but really its all in my head. I'll catch myself after a few minutes and realize I am still laying in bed. It frequently happens after using the computer for a few hours before bed, however it is not always computer related things I see. Sometimes I think I am driving or meeting with someone when I am really not, and I kind of snap out of it. I am certain that I a not asleep when this happens, and it seems so real.

Its like my thoughts are projected as vivid images in my mind and I become so absorbed in them that I become involved with them and interact with them as though they were reality. Its very hard to explain... But I have laid in bed and, in my mind, done research on an interesting topic using Google. I'm sure the things I am reading are inaccurate as they are coming from my mind instead of the actual internet. Although at the moment I know I am awake, what I am doing right now, I could be doing while laying in bed and I would think It was really happening.

I know this sounds like the rantings of a mad man but it is just very difficult to explain. I want to clarify that not all of these thoughts are computer related, that some of them involve day-to-day activities including social interaction.

Any thoughts?

Referred to as hypnogogia, yours is a fairly common experience that often occurs during the brief period between wakefulness and sleep. The experience may include voices, loud noises, sharp sensations, bed shaking, lucid paralysis, imagined room intruders, and, of course, tinnitus among various other types of sensory experiences. That sound you hear is most likely the amplified ringing many older adults hear imperceptibly. Exposure to loud noises and the continuous use of earphone devices over the years is the likely cause. As you drift into sleep, you may be experiencing an increased sensitivity to ambient noises in your sleep environment as many of us do. Unfortunately, that sensitivity could be enhancing your tinnitus. Although I advise that you visit a sleep specialist, noise cancelling devices and natural sound generators have shown some effectiveness in easing the symptoms of this kind of sleep disturbance. I hope this helps.

Hi, i've been experiencing hypnogogia and sleep paralasez for a few year now,

It started when I would be drifting of to sleep I would feel this swaying motion which was involentary at first but i could then control the direction of it if you beleive in the soul it felt like something pulling on my soul then i would have an odd feeling that there was an evil presence in the room with me then id get a feeling like somone was touching me or poking me normally on my back which at time would be really uncomftable or a feeling like someone was trying to lift my matress up from under me plus visual and auditory experinces which were id see little white balls and whispers of light floating in and out of view and the noises where bangs taps from my t.v.

Once asleep i would have really bad nightmares about demons and evil spirts trying to harm me and with me being a lucid dreamer i sometimes knew i was dreamin and i would try and wake my self up but id dream ive woken up jumped out off bed to go and tell someone and the sprits where still there but the scariest part off it was when i would wake up I was paralised with a feeling of someone heavy sitting on my chest and seeing these demons in my room and not been able to move or shout for help. Im glad to say its started to die off now thank god not a very nice experience.

just to add the reason i think my nightmares where focused on spirits is because my mam has always been a believer in it all and says shes a medium and was convinced i had evil entities attached to me because off the dark place i went with depression and drugs.

Thanks for reading i know its a long post but i hope theres people who can relate to these experiences.

Hi. I once woke up from a nightmare and then I saw something in the corner of my room. At first I thought someone was there, but then I realized I was seeing my dream continuing. It looked 3D like a hologram. My dream took place at night so I couldn't see any color except a greenish tint from the moon.

I looked around my room, and the dream didn't follow. I looked back where I saw it, and it was still there. I watched it for a while, closed my eyes, and when i opened them it was gone this time. What a relief. I got up, got something to drink and sat on my couch thinking how this could really happen.

I really was fully awake; I know the difference. Anyone ever experience this or know what cause it? Comments welcome.

[/quot

Almost the exact same thing happened to me, only once, when i was about 12 years old. The only difference is the snakes, which were what my dream was about, were not holographic in apprearence. They seemed to be very solid and real. The lights were on and I could make out every detail. This has only happened once and I sincerely hope it never happens again! From time to time I suffer from sleep paralysis, which is terrifying itself, but it doesn't compair to having your dreams follow you into the waking world.
Not sure if I am going thru the same thing now. I got in work this morning and was going thru my daily routine of doing websites and I got a deep relapse of a very old memory from the website I was doing, then from there (I think) I have a very cloudy memory of what occured, basically since then I am now dreaming while I am awake, I am not being funny or having a joke but trying to recall what happened an hour ago is very hard as the memory is convuluted im not sure it is from a dream or real. I looked at my sent box from an hour ago and I dont remember fully an email I composed and sent to my friend. But I do remember it as well but I am sure I didnt write what I wrote. As you can tell this is very hard to explain basically I think I am dreaming while I am awake. But I think it has been seeded from a distant old deep memory that has surfaced and brought with it old dreams (not memories).

About 2 or 3 years ago, I experienced an episode that sounds almost like this. I was driving to meet a friend and kept having dreams float in and out of my head. It was hard to distinguish a dream from reality, but I knew I was still driving to meet my friend. I spent about 2 hours with her and later she did mention that I acted fine, but it was as if I was really far away. When I got home that night, I told my husband if I didn't wake up the next morning for him to tell my mom I loved her. That's how much this episode freaked me out.

This year, it sort of happened again. I was taking a walk and all I can describe it is that you're in a fog and dreams float in and out. I have been looking on line for ages about this and just tonight discovered this forum and it all sounds just like what I have been experiencing. I always wondered why couldn't you dream while you were awake. It is sort of like the opposite of sleep walking. While your mind is asleep, but your body is awake during sleep walking, this experience is that both your body and mind are awake, but it's as if half of your brain is in sleep mode.

I believe birds have half of their brain awake and half asleep when they are sleeping. My doctor didn't do any exams or anything. But it has always bugged me of what is happening to me. I still would like to know if it's serious, or what causes it. However, at least it's only happened twice (so far). If anyone has any further info, I would greatly appreciate it.

Your doctor should have order a CT scan or referred you to either a sleep specialist or neurologist. Your altered perceptual experiences could be a symptom of some underlying neuropathy that has yet to fully manifest. I suggest that you return to your doctor and insist on receiving the proper medical attention your experience deserves.

I've experienced the two parts of waking up thing you were talking about many times. Sometimes it's a bit of a variation but the concept is usually the same. The main reason I had such an experience was because of a lack of sleep in which my mind would make up a whole bunch of reasons why I didn't need to get out of bed. So I would say that this is probably occurring because of a lack of sleep. If this is not the case then I would see a sleep specialist. I agree with what others have said, that you are experiencing hypnogogia but this reply is the reason behind why I think you are having this problem. If you reply could you please post your average sleeping hours in the week and on the weekend and the days this happens most frequently.

Eitherway, 98% of antidepressant and antipsychotic are turning people into sheep zombie, eitherway they're probably still depress they have to take a medicine instead of get fit, as now USA is in a depression, I bet lack of originality.

I mean they're still doing fucking test on brains to figure out what schizophrenia is while they're handing medicine out like madmen.

I always used to be an insomniac, and as such learned to cope by just daydreaming so heavily and so vividly (Strong congnitive imagination. Have conversations in my head with someone next to me a lot etc) and I can get a lot of energy from there. Also I love sleep and get depression so even now that I'm not an insomniac I still zone straight back into sleep after waking up and turning over and may do so for about a week if left to it, and daydreaming about things that are better than my day ahead often seems more desirable. Not complimenting this especially well is my ADHD, which means both that I'm far more likely to zone out at inappropriate times as I get bored more easily, and go off tangent from things that someone said and start thinking about or having a mental conversation about that instead until I'm lost. Of course another symptom of ADHD is disfunctioning working memory. Sometimes you forget short term memory, but often your brain doesn't read your working memory and put it into your short term memory box in the first place and so there is no memory to remember. This can happen when you ARE paying attention to what someone says, and you cannot focus both on remembering what someone is saying, and also processing the meaning of it at the same time. It literally does go in one ear and out the other against your will sometimes. Now add that to when you are not paying attention or are in a trance of just "doing" stuff on auto-pilot, as we often do, and you're going to have to just memorise that your keys can usually be found behind your laptop, because you don't have a single memory of having ever put it there even though you seem to throw it in that absurd position every day. Maybe this will help some people?

My husband and I had a strange experience one night while I was asleep, my husband was meditating. I was dreaming that my husband was falling down a cliff and I bolted upright and screamed. My husband that was meditating felt his mind was falling down a deep dark hole and when I bolted upright and screamed, he snapped out of his meditation state. He said he became fearful in his mental state that he could not get back to normal state of mind so my reaction to my dream brought him back to reality.

To this day, we cannot figure out what actaully happened but it was a mind blowing experience that affected us both.

I joined because of this topic. I have been afraid to tell my doc what is going on because I think I am going crazy, now I think that maybe I am not. For awhile now I don't sleep well at night. I am tired all day and when I sit my head nods a lot or my eyes will get heavy. No biggie. But I think I may be micro sleeping because I will be watching a program on T.V. with my son and I kind of am paying attention and then a loud noise will bring me suddenly to full attention and then I will see someone doing something in the show and somehow I am remembering things about them that never happened in the film but it was like I was there to see all these other things happen. It happens all the time. My mind fills in details everyday of things that happen no matter where I am or where I go if I have to sit and wait or even drive and then when I recall them people look at me like I'm nuts. I wonder if I am just dozing and I am daydreaming while including my scenery in it. Is that possible or am I really losing my mind? If someone has a clue please fill me in.

You're not losing your mind but may be assimilating, as you said, your surrounding sensory experiences amid mirco sleeping. However, you should consider seeing a sleep disorder specialist rather than rely in any opinion here.

i agree ...... lack of sleep will cause many problems. ..... find out why you cant sleep. I joined this site xmas evening many yrs ago.....most made fun of me, really all could give a poo that i was suffering, but i did learn a lot about science from logic and need and also researched many new devices thru google. I will not even bring up the hell i have been thru but try this....... Before you sleep make sure all electronics are shut off, in a draw or away from you...... especially any remote controls..... see if the room is more peaceful...... really we are in a time with so many remote electronic devices that it affects our normal sleep these waves bounce off everything. Shut any light that could come in from an external area, light is also a wave....like windows.....if it is still bad and you have vibrations waking you (sometimes you dont know what is waking u)..... then get rid of any mattress with any metal in it .....go with those new padded beds where no electronics could affect or attract the metal. Those mattresses also may help with "surround sound" of a neighbor..... surround sound you cant hear it ...but you feel it.

I had always thought that science started with a theory then one would figure the reason. But when one brings up anything to do with the unknown.....the proof here at this site was......its either neurological or your nuts. So be at peace with yourself. as pope john Paul use to say........be not afraid.

I've had a very traumatic experience and hoping one of you can either have an explanation for me or convince me I'm not crazy...

For the past two years I've been an off and on pot smoker, smoking every now and then, no avid smoker by any means. One night I smoked weed and got the normal "high" feeling. I felt relaxed and hungry lol but nothing out of the ordinary. After awhile the high got the best of me and I went to bed, and heres where my experience actually comes in, I don't remember falling asleep... I remember laying down and it felt as though immediately after laying down I began to (what it felt like) lose sanity. Nothing made sense, I felt as though I was in a dream but I knew it was real life. I was hearing a voice in my head, a demonic presence that was telling me things like "god isn't real" and the voice I was hearing was constantly condescending its self. It would tell me god wasn't real, but then would tell me that I was in hell and that I was dead. Later on the voice was saying such things as "Do you not believe that you're dead? try to roll over" and I would follow what the voice said because I was curious whether or not it was real life or a dream. But every time I rolled over it seemed to me that the action of rolling over would constantly repeat. So in appeared as though I was stuck in a time loop or something. As the night carried on I was walking around my room doing absolutely CRAZY things, like snap my fingers, clap my hands, blink repetitively, inch my leg, I even at one point walked out into the lit area of my hallway and was pacing, trying to make sense of it all. If anyone saw what I was doing they would think I was mentally insane!! My heart was beating so fast, at one point I thought I was having a heart attack and even thought I was having a seizure. While all this happened I would repeat these random words in my head and they seemed to be played in an almost song like beat. I would close my eyes hoping to fall asleep and I would hear these words with the beat and see shapes and colors. While everything was happening I had an almost deja vu feeling. As if I had seen these shapes and heard the words with the beat before.

I hope you guys read through all of this and can make some sense of it, because it honestly scared the shit out of me. I really want to make scientifical sense of it so I don't think feel crazy, or feel like I should turn myself into the looney ben. I've never had an experience like this before, i've yet to receive it again (knock on wood) But the experience in all made me contemplate life it's self. Why we're here, if there are ghosts, or maybe it was just a "lucid dream" type experience. So please help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Sounds are normal.

You were also likely feeling the effects of sleep paralysis. Creates a feedback issue. Your brain attempts some motion, but then receives word back that the muscles were unable to comply. Common to feel unease as a result.

As to the rest, it is possible you were asleep without knowing it and/or sleep walking. Basically sleep is supposed to be a skeleton crew minimal activity mode. A balance between recuperation and still being able to respond to generalized threats to oneself. Can seem a bit weird when you become aware of everything going on.

Hearing voices can be a symptom of many different things. Some serious, some less so. If it happens again, see a doctor.

I should turn myself into the looney ben

And try and get a better attitude towards mental illness! :)

Hello Morrison50,

This was likely a lucid dream experience if there is no evidence in your sleep environment of the activity you recall and you recall waking in bed at the conclusion of your experience. This lucid experience appears to suggest your mental state at the time of your dream, in my opinion. Dreams are empirically mental experiences and , therefore, more than likely reflect the state of mind of the dreamer. There was a reason why you smoke infrequently and prior to this experience. Perhaps that reason provides a clue to its cause. THC alters our state of mind and mood and, perhaps, that was your intent. Perhaps your dream suggest the state or mood you sought to alter or escape. I hope this helps.

My "awake dreams" are not that involved, but I do have ptsd & I think I've reached the anger part. These "dreams" are not vivid as if I'm living them, but vivid as in a wish. However, I cannot come out of them. I know they're happening, but I have no control. Like sleep walking, but conscious & dreaming, also could call them day time nightmares.

I have not had many Lucid dreams. At times during the dream I was aware I was dreaming, I still could not control much or do as I wanted. Also I've had bad dreams were I knew I was dreaming and tryed to shake myself awake. In the dream state it felt as if it was hard to wake myself & I'd never be able to, but I always woke up when that happend. I would love to make a dream journal but the times when I did wake up and wrote things down it was very hard to go back to sleep.

The reason real I am writing is from what Guest darthnig's Comments. A deeply held memory or recalling a dream or parts of one while awake. I am not sure what it is really, is it some memory of long time ago or parts of a dream. Whatever it is, I get this Euphoric Feeling during recall, It feels great so that I try and make this happen more often. I tell myself always to remember the trigger (a thought, memory or image) I call it, so to get this feeling again. It only last for seconds and I try and go to other thoughts that will help it last longer (thoughts or the feelings I had in previous states of this recall). The middle thoughts or Images will not start this feeling, even if they could I do not remember them vividly. For a few weeks in a row It was happening often. It no longer does I thought it (the recall of these memory's or parts of a dream) was gone until yesterday it did. I didn't think I could find a trigger again. I always tell myself, if this happens again remember the trigger, remember parts of the memory or thoughts. No matter how hard I try I cannot remember the thoughts of what it is that gives me this Euphoric feeling. It only last for seconds. Very hard to describe goose-bumpy great feeling. Sometimes I can get one of these thoughts or memory's I know its one that will help me bridge to this Euphoric feeling but I loose it.

Dont make fun. I don't do drugs and these occurrences have nothing really todo with tiredness or bad moods. I wish I knew more.

Thanks

Maybe you are experiencing sleep paralysis. I had it multiple times about 20 years ago and it was very distrurbing...untill I found out what it is, then the experience became less frightening and actually amusing:

Ok, I have a question about somethings I experience. First time I expierenced it was maybe 5-6 years ago, then one more time in the following years and the last year alone I had another 3 expierences. The first time I knew I was awake but relaxed and I was aware I can move and still interract as a woken person, but I stood still, and I started to see images and then to explore an envirement of a coastal city, but it was very strange and there was no trafic on the streets, so I wondered around and observed alot of things like buildings and the marinal port. But anyway it is not important, I wrote down the expierences lately, like I remember them now, as of what can be discribet about them the rest of the experience is forgoten in a way. The strange thing was I wasn't a sleep and I knew it is a dream of some kind, but I didn't want to move or open my eyes because I thought it will stop. Also during the expierence I was recieving tons of information about anything that catches my attention in the envirement, and also there was something like a safety, like a safety monitor or something with this idea to prevent me from freaking out freaking out or getting scared and disconecting, so it kept me calm and in a good intentional state. After that when it was suposed to end I opened my eyes and all the information about things that I recieved just started to disapear like when you wake up from a dream and start to forget it. Only the expierence of what I saw and where I walked remained. It happend to me again in a different enviorements every time. The stragest thing was that two of the last three times, my wife was right next me in bed, we were discusing something, when I stoped replying, she asked if I'm asleep, then I replyed to her that I'm not but I couldn't explain to her what is happening because I didn't understand it. Like I said about the first time, there was some information coming to me about everything I see or that catches my attention, it appears that the information was including sensations and expierences but as you know sometimes expierences can't be explained, so I could only describe to her what am I seeing. It happened two times with my wife present, the second time it was very intensed, because the information source ( wich I call the interpreter, and also my anty-freakout guide) was almost like talking to me and explaining what I am I seeing, but like in a rush as if time was runing out. The last one totaly destroyed me because, I’m not a believer or religious, I don't easily believe even in aliens, although it is impossible for them not to exist if we do. I consider to be a very rational person, but the last one is very uncomfortable to talk about, but lets say, I saw and was told things that questioned my disbelief in "the god" and others like it! So about those expierences, any ideas what they are, becase I don't get paralised, or sleep, or dream, I’m awake and interacting also I can move in the other enviorment, but don't feel much of it, exept the information flow with expierences that seem to be from the past but I don't know wich past mine or someone or something that already expierenced them, and also feelings from already lived times, but not mine, because when it ends they fade away? Any Ideas?

Hi i have had an experience which i have tried to research but have had no luck with and from what I have learned along the way is not known or thought possible so I would be grateful if anyone can give me some insight on it. I went to bed as normal at some point during the night I found myself in a dream there was one other person with me in the dream but nothing else no ground, no sky, just myself and this other person who was a lifelong close friend. As soon as I had recognized who it was and felt a strong connection I awoke/conscious, aware, and in control of my body if I needed to move. I was lying on my back arms by my side and legs straight (i have never awakened in this position before), I remained completely still, focus my thoughts toward what my brain and body were doing. All I could tell was that I got the feeling my brain was working very hard or at least some part of it was and my body felt heavy relaxed at rest. The reason I’m telling you this is because I was still in the dream during the whole time that I was also awake/conscious, separate experience yet the same ME at the same TIME in both dream and awake realities simultaneously. My brain was processing both at the same time, me in the dream experiencing all that was going on in the dream including interacting verbally with my friend, as well as being aware of all that was going on in the real awake world (but felt like it was coming from elsewhere). And it was the same the other way round, me in the awake state was aware of all around me and all in the dream as a separate reality. I somehow knew if I moved my body I would lose the dream so had planned to lift my left arm and roll over when I had had enough. I did at one point open my eyes and looked straight up and slowly scanned from right to left to see if I could see anything, I could not, possibly blind (my room is very dark), and it seemed to affect the dream or connecting with (went laggy or jittery not sure what exactly). This whole experience went on for a minute or so when I began to feel like some part of my brain engaged (became aware of what was happening, I knew that awake was the real reality but something inside was reasoning that if I exist in the dream then that must also be a real place (best way I can explain, hope you understand better than me :-).. ). It started to challenge that the dream was as real a place as this reality, it rose to equal footing, I became concerned by this so lifted my left arm to roll on my side. The dream instantly ended. I lay there wondering at what had just happened,5 to 10 seconds or so passed I felt the dream experience quickly being erased and fade from my mind, all I can recall from the dream I have already said except I do vaguely recall also having a conversation with my friend about it being a dream and telling him that I was also awake and what was going on outside of the dream.
