StringJunky Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I tried to remove two partitions, listed as disk F and G. I deleted the contents first and then tried to get rid of them but no luck. If I try to format them they just come up "Windows was unable to format...". If I click on the partitions in Windows Explorer it says "Please insert a disk into F". It thinks it's a CD drive. I want to get rid of the partitions and just have one. Stick is an Integral usb 2.0.
studiot Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 (edited) Hold the windows key down and hit the letter R Type diskmgmt.nmsc into the box and hit return Select the partition to eliminate (hatched w in my pic) and action form the list as shown Delete the partition You may also need to follow through by deleting the partitions with the green surround if it is part of a larger partition grouping. Thanks. Whilst responding to you I managed to create a 'new simple volume' in the larger second disk/partition. There's still the 2mb disk which it seems now that it held a MBR; it was labeled that at one point whilst messing about with it. It's disk 1 and 2 in the image. When I plug the stick in it still says "Please insert disk in F....". I can cancel it and use H but I'm going to get F popping up everytime, asking to insert a disk. StringJunky Posted November 4, 2016 Author Posted November 4, 2016 Was this a former windows recovery drive? No, I think it might have had some sort of Integral software in it; maybe locking software perhaps.

Searching for manufacturer of stick, we can find this: http://www.integralmemory.com/faq/usb-using-my-integral-usb-flash-drive-i-get-message-%E2%80%9Cplease-insert-disk-driveformat-drive-why-oc http://www.integralmemory.com/faq#t15n276 There is also question in FAQ about merging partitions on Integral ICE. Check it also. Did you try formatting (or initializing) it in device like digital camera or other external device.. ? Edited November 5, 2016 by Sensei

I've encrypted H: with Diskcryptor and it's fine. I'm not bothered about F:. I'm only playing ande can easily get another stick. What would you say was the most reliable brand of USB sticks? It's quite cool the program is. When the stick is not mounted and if someone stuck it in, all they will see is an option to format the drive because their is no recognised file system on it; it just reads RAW in Explorer. Mount it with DiskCryptor and the contents are all there. Will try encrypting the laptop next. Edited November 5, 2016 by StringJunky
rangerx Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 I had that issue with a palm drive (can't recall the manufacturer). When removed, the disk formatted normally and I use it in another computer. Every other drive I've attached to it booted up with 2 drives, a CD ROM drive. Similar to your issue, which I'm certain is a hard coded overlay.
