ModernArtist25 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) Ok so I saw this pic somewhere online: I mean is this really even possible in this era? To have another Hitler? I guess this might happen if we go through another depression, resources become scarce, and the “leader” finds a scapegoat. What's your opinion on Trump being compared to Hitler? Edited November 12, 2016 by ModernArtist25
fiveworlds Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 What's your opinion on Trump being compared to Hitler? There is very little basis for it. I know Trump can fly off the handle a bit but he hasn't done anything to deserve being compared to Hitler. If I hated everybody who gave out a lot I'd have to hate myself. I mean is this really even possible in this era? To have another Hitler? Possibly but I am not of the opinion that Trump is going to be the next Hitler. People often say stuff about new presidents they are rarely correct.
Phi for All Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 What's your opinion on Trump being compared to Hitler? My in-laws survived Hitler's Germany. I remember them talking about how it seemed like they were mocking him one moment and saluting him the next. They said it was astonishing because everyone they knew was against him from the beginning, but were praising him by the time he started to invade other countries. This is the way I feel about Trump. I'm astonished that so many People can hear him lie, and at the same time believe his promise to fix all the things that need to be fixed. He's destroyed one of the most valuable things about the internet, that you can verify the truth of what someone is promising you within minutes, which leaves the public with only our useless, profit-focused, razzledazzle media to inform us of critical news to form our perspectives. In fact, the piece in the OP left out another fascist factor: the state and the corporations working together with media propaganda to manipulate the citizenry. Also that we're hurting from a recent war like Germany was. If I hated everybody who gave out a lot I'd have to hate myself. "Gave out a lot"? Can you be more specific? Is this slang for "Corked off like an asshole for no decent reason"? 3

History lesson, Hitler was Pro-Muslim. I don't think a comparison means anything at all for that category. Also, Hitler killed millions, and committed a genocide. Donald Trump hasn't. Prior to said mass genocide Hitler was often praised as a great politician. Trumps not. Its about as stupid as this: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Edited November 12, 2016 by Raider5678
Delta1212 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Ok so I saw this pic somewhere online: I mean is this really even possible in this era? To have another Hitler? I guess this might happen if we go through another depression, resources become scarce, and the “leader” finds a scapegoat. What's your opinion on Trump being compared to Hitler? No, I don't think Trump is literally Hitler. Yes, it is absolutely possible for something like that to happen in this era, and while I don't think it is likely that Trump is that leader, the way things have gone down are absolutely an indication of how something like that could get started.
Phi for All Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Hitler killed millions, and committed a genocide. Donald Trump hasn't. I want this bumper sticker!
MigL Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Becoming a dictator involve the condoning or backing of the military. I don't imagine it could ever happen in the US. At one point it couldn't even happen in Russia when Yeltsin was around. Sadly, Putin seems to subjugating the newborn democracy ( if it can still be called that ) to his will.

"Don't worry, General, I know you said some nasty things about me during the campaign, but that's OK. I'm sure the FBI will be done with their investigation shortly. What's your daughter's name?"

geordief Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Don't understand what you mean by "Corked off" Is that because you are from Kerry?

"It can't ever happen here." "It couldn't happen elsewhere at one point but then it did." Ever is a long time, and never tends to arrive a lot sooner than most people expect it to.
fiveworlds Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Is that because you are from Kerry? Nope Offaly living in Cork now though.
iNow Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 "It can't ever happen here." An exceedingly dangerous rationalization any time it's thought or spoken. 1
Raider5678 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I want this bumper sticker! Wait, let me rephrase. Hitler killed millions, and committed a genocide. Trump hasn't yet. 1
Phi for All Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Nope Offaly living in Cork now though. In all honesty, I used that as an obscure slang, meaning "lost composure and lashed out verbally". I had no idea you live in Cork. And I'm not sure where that expression came from. I always thought it was referring to a champagne cork, finally popping off under pressure. Wait, let me rephrase. Hitler killed millions, and committed a genocide. Trump hasn't yet. Adding the last word reduces the effectiveness, imo. It invites those who love him to simply deny. The beauty of the original quote for the bumper sticker is getting People to mumble the last word under their breath. Eventually they may even start shouting.

Phi for All Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 You' re digging a deeper hole now From fiveworlds POV, my comment must have seemed suspiciously accurate and a bit stalkery. Perfect ironic coincidence for a thread about fascism.

So "gave out a lot" means "fly off the handle a bit". Thank you for the clarification. Yes Trumpf resembles Hitler in more ways than those listed. He knows "more than the generals" just like Hitler did (not). Trump can go to war with anyone, even Rosie O'Donnell. Edited November 13, 2016 by Airbrush
MigL Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Come to think of it... R Giuliani is a lot like J Goebbels. ( just kidding )
waitforufo Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 You know a forum has jumped the shark when they start saying people are Hitler. Here is an alternative. This one however is funnier.
John Cuthber Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 You know a forum has jumped the shark when they start saying people are Hitler. Here is an alternative. Russia had to announce the desire for peace. Think about that. One woman getting a job isn't significant, but this might be http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mike-pence-assault-lgbtq-equality_us_58275a17e4b02d21bbc8ff9b Just not true http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/a-male-trump-supporter-punched-a-woman-eating-dinner-in-the-face_us_582b2c86e4b060adb5704c25 The Dow Jones reacted to the removal of uncertainty, that's not an endorsement of the president- just a sigh of relief that the fight is over. It was doing very nicely under Obama- I think it was 78 consecutive months of economic growth. Do you think Trump's going to match that? Again, one immigrant - especially one picked for her looks- getting a good job isn't a significant step in immigrant equality . So, it may be "jumping the shark" but the point is that the Hitler comparison is actually valid, and yours isn't. Did you think we wouldn't notice? 1
Airbrush Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) The Alt-Right had a rally in DC and on film they captured the speaker Richard Spencer and many members saying "HAIL TRUMP" (or Heil Trump?) and giving the Nazi salute. Trump has not specifically denounced this, but issued a generalized denunciation of racism. http://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Are-white-nationalists-Neo-Nazis-Alt-right-Hail-10628963.php "He (Richard Spencer) railed against Jews and, with a smile, quoted Nazi propaganda in the original German. America, he said, belonged to white people, whom he called the 'children of the sun,' a race of conquerors and creators who had been marginalized but now, in the era of President-elect Donald J. Trump, were 'awakening to their own identity." Edited November 22, 2016 by Airbrush
