Guest BLB Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 You have 50 coins totaling one dollar. One falls in a gopher hole while tossing the coins in your hand. What is the chance that a quarter fell into a gopher hole?
Callipygous Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 im gonna guess "zero". i havent actually worked out the math, but that would require one of the coins to be a quarter which means the other 49 coins would need to total 75 cents. while this may be possible (as i said, i havent checked) it just doesnt seem right in my head.
uncool Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 Callipygous, it is possible. [hide]1 quarter = 25 cents 2 dimes = 20 cents 2 nickels = 10 cents 45 pennies = 45 cents 2 quarters, however, are not possible to do. 0 quarters is possible. 2 dimes = 20 cents 8 nickels = 40 cents 40 pennies = 40 cents [/hide] Therefore, this question has no definite answer. -Uncool-
BigMoosie Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Are you taking into account the relative sizes and weights of these coins?
