Quartofel Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Hello there, Bright Minds.I'm writting a sci-fi universe with fantasy elements and one of my goals is to make it as scientifically correct as I'm able. One of the aspects is obviously space combat.Fuel is crucial aspect, so vessels cannot be too heavy thus no extensive armour is possible. Following course of thoughts pushed me toward force fields of some sort. After lurking around the Internet a little bit, I've learned about Boeing force field-ish concept, and I'd really like to apply similar one but in vast vacuum of space. But the issue is vacuum itself. No transient medium present required in real life concept, so no temporary plasma shield against shockwave. Also, I'm curious if it would be possible to scatter or redirect DEW beams via electromagnetic or other mean.Brief search of other topics didn't provide any information to my question, but if I'm wrong, I'd appreciate a link or two.Cheers!_______________________________DEWhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directed-energy_weaponBoeing "Force Field"http://www.sciencealert.com/boeing-has-patented-a-plasma-force-field-to-protect-against-shock-waves PS I am really sorry for any grammar/spelling mistakes, I'll appreciate correcting me.
Sriman Dutta Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 If you wanna make your vessel move by using force field-ish things, you can try the repulsive force of two giant super-powerful magnets.
Quartofel Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 I'd rather keep vessel unharmed by DEWs and shockwaves. When it comes to propulsion, I'll stick with chemical rockets, ion engines and solar sails.
