Used in bursts and in a ice-cold container to prevent cooking. sonicator - uses sound, actually high frequency vibrations, to shake apart cells microfluidizer - pushes an already homogenized sample down a narrow tube, then quickly expands the other end in a vacuum, ripping apart even sub-cellular structures.
