Still unable to Paste from Word or allowed to append an attachment. Isn't it about time the Science Forum caught up with the 21st Century?

Nobody else seems to have this problem, so maybe the issue is yours? And maybe you could post in the proper area (moved to support)

You've been given many workarounds, so your attempts to insult our technology are very ironic. Especially when it's you who seems limited, and therefore antiquated.

I have it to some degree.

1. I cannot copy and paste from a Word document into a blank Reply to Topic box.

2. I cannot copy and paste from a Word document into a Reply to Topic box that I have typed only a single character into.

3. I can copy and paste from a Word document into a Reply to Topic box if, and only if, I first type multiple characters into the box and then place the cursor within those characters.

4. I have no difficulty copying and pasting if I am using Quote from an earlier post.

I have presumed this is just a character of the software. It is mildly annoying, but hardly a game stopper (for me).

I cannot quote or cut and paste when I am at work here - I think it might be something to do with our network settings because not many others get this problem. Also - when I am at home on my laptop or PC I can paste and quote just fine.

Before you quote, cut or paste, press on the button on the left of 'Remove format' and above 'Bold'.

I had the same problem when I first entered the forum. I think I read that the problem is caused by the operating system. Many fora have problems like that...

Try the 'More Reply Options' just left of 'Post'.

This is also a very generic complaint. There are multiple paste options in the reply box (even a "paste from word" button) as well as using keyboard shortcuts, and two different editor modes. There are also browser and OS settings that could possibly be a factor.

We don't know what's been tried. That many people don't have this issue is a strong indiction that the solution does not lie with changing anything with the website.

Test

This bit of nothing has been directly copy/pasted from a Word document.

Edit: I made the above in Abiword and saved it as .doc in W10.

This is a copy/paste test from Notepad.

Ophiolite. Might be some fault with the Clipboard. Try doing it in Notepad. If so, then it's a Clipboard problem. Reinstalling Word is the solution if Notepad works.

The remove format button did not seem to work. I do not know what the button left of that is (First button top left) - it is blank. Thanks for the help, but I think my prob is something to do with our network settings. I am fine when at home.

But if you did manage to copy and paste from Word, would you still ignore all the discussion as you have done in all the threads you have created so far?

Which software are you using to open Word Document?

Microsoft Word?

OpenOffice Writer?

Something else.. ?

What if you copy from Word document, and then paste to Notepad?

I noticed that while pasting to this forum reply box, it's trying to preserve formatting of text.

You can disable formatting of text by clicking top-left button (above Bold, on the left of Remove Format buttons),

the all buttons will be disabled,

and the all formatting tags will be in raw format in square brackets [ ]

Then try to paste your text from Word document.

It's possible that Word's formatted text is broken (or using incompatible/unknown tags), and forum code disallows copying in security checks, to not destroy formatting of text..

ps. Some documents/PDF are scans or have been on purpose frozen to images.

ps2. If nothing else works, you can always press print-screen key button, then paste it in MS Paint (as image), cut interesting part, and attach such little screen-shot.

Thanks for those who replied with suggestions about the Science websites' inability to accept Word pastes which makes intelligent communication difficult.

It has not been established that the inability is with the site. There are indications that it is browser or network security settings that could be at fault.

Thanks for your unequivocal condemnation, which undermines your claim of intelligence.
