AG Jeff Sessions lied repeatedly, including under oath during his confirmation hearing, about contacts with Russia. When Bill Clinton lied to congress they tried to impeach him.

Maybe he should resign. At the very least, maybe Sessions shouldn't be in charge of the investigations into the Trump campaign's interactions with Russia?

He needs to go. The whole point of being put under oath is to ensure one doesn't attempt to mislead. Saying he misspoke or the question wasn't clear enough it pathetic. He is the top lawyer in the nation. He understands what being put under oath means.

Sessions has officially recused himself from investigations into the Trump campaigns relations with Russia (seriously, why did this take so long??): http://abcn.ws/2m15VFF

On the small chance this isn't a rhetorical question: it's because this administration is integrity-challenged. He should have recused himself from day 1 — he was involved in the campaign, so he can't be involved in any decisions about investigating it.

But as we saw with Flynn, that doesn't matter. It's only after being caught that mitigation is considered. The act itself was not the problem.

agreed. every politician spins... this group just flat out lies and it doesn't seem anyone that matters (congress, their voters, even many in the press) cares

He wasn't under oath when he tweeted that, so the only semi-plausible legal consequence he could really face for just making it up is probably Obama suing him for libel or defamation, and that's unlikely to happen in any case.

So, in other words, no. Nothing is going to come of this.

What about all our pain and suffering because of his irresponsible, strange behavior? Isn't that worth anything? Trump is looking more and more like a loose cannon. What serious lapse from reality will it take to topple the Teflon Don? What is the magnitude of crisis?

A serious crime.

All Bill Clinton did was lie to congress about having sex. However, when congress voted, Clinton was let off the hook.

There seem to be parallels between Trump and Nixon. Let's see what happens next.

Clinton was fined and disbarred.

And inaction on the part of the GOP likely to cost them seats in the next election cycle.

Wasn't disbarred. License suspended for 5 years in Arkansas, resigned from the Supreme Court bar (he had never argued a case before them). Would have been disbarred from SCOTUS if he hadn't resigned.

What are the chances that he gets tired of trying to ram through EOs, and up and quits with a bruised ego before his 4 yrs are up ?

I really don't think he ever thought he'd get this far.

Hard to say. He's not the type that (visibly) resigns from things. More likely is he'll stop performing his essential functions and eventually congress steps in, then he can pick a fight with them to distract from the core issues.

He picks fights with anyone. To wage war on the media itself "enemy of the people" (except Fox News and select few) seems like INSANITY. The media will always have the last word. He will likely have some mental breakdown. When he gets angry his face turns red. The negative feedback loop (Trump outbursts, then media total constant coverage) will intensify until his head explodes like the Martians in "Mars Attacks" when they heard that country music. :)

Trump needs an enemy to attack so he can always be running offense. Without an enemy (media, Intelligence Community, Obama, etc) Trump would have to defend his policies and choices as President. Trump does not defend, he attacks. Unfortunately for everyone living in the U.S. and democracy in general attacking is not a successful way to manage govt which is supposed to be accountable to its citizens.

Breaking news is that if Trump is right about the "wiretap", then that means there is a FISA warrant for the wiretap, and then for Trump to announce it is obstruction of justice, which is an impeachable offence.

Interesting to see what Comey has to say on 20th of March.

I do not know the legality surrounding that but I wonder whether that would actually be the case. E.g. does it require that he abused his power to get the information for it to be illegal? E.g. if he was just guessing or following rumors (but just happens to be right) would that be an offence?

Trump claimed Obama wire tapped him. AFAIK, libel, slander or defamation are not high crimes. However, had Trump done that under deposition or proceeded to maliciously prosecute Obama, that would be something yet again.

That was the issue with Bill Clinton. Not that he had lurid affairs, but that he lied about them under oath.

It is grossly negligent and reckless for Trump to announce a secret FISA wire tap to the world. He should have consulted with his attorneys before his Twitter outburst 8 days ago. A normal president would consult with attorneys before Tweeting something extreme. He is an adult and should have known. He obstructed justice and that is an impeachable offence.

If a majority of republicans secretly consider Trump an obnoxious loose cannon, then they are just waiting for a clear technicality for impeachment, which must be done before Trump causes too much trouble.
