Hephaestus Posted May 23, 2005 Share Posted May 23, 2005 Blackout try making your Q a little clearer. Sodium methoxide is just made by reacting sodium metal or hydroxide with methanol. It is a strong, corrosive base used to make many esters. It's use is important in the formation of biodiesel where you do not want to turn fats into soaps (ie with hydroxide). c.f. http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_aleksnew.html for an example.
