mattyfulton Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Hi all, I am hoping to make a model Space Shuttle, and need help with what to use for propellants I have always been interested in space, and aim to become an Astronaut. I wish to study rocket science and aerodynamics, and making this would help me Currently, this is all theory, and has been put on paper, but I am here to ask what I should use for propellant. I am only hoping for it to go a max of 10m high, and am currently planning on using 5 cans. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I could use that is easy to obtain and has a lower risk of exploding? Thanks
Klaynos Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Model rockets tend to use solid state fuel (or water but that would be difficult to make it accurately looks like a shuttle). I'd suggest trying to find a local rocketeers club to join.
Enthalpy Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 For 10m height, you don't need to burn propellants. Ejecting water from a bottle that contains as well air under pressure suffices. No risk of detonation then. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_rocket
