yup, but not much of a backup.

I never complained. On the other hand I did have two hardrive crashes in the last 15 years resulting in mayhem. You should try Onedrive, I was skeptical too but its actually good. Oh and I dont have and never had anything to do with microsoft proffesionally, in fact I was a hater in my younger years. End of preach :) Edited by koti

You know, I think the cloud is really good.

After all when your pc is unbootable/uncontrollable either because of a hard drive crash or malware, all you have to do is get your stuff back from the cloud.

Just one small hitch, you need a working pc to effect this.

A backup strategy on its own is useless, you also need a recovery strategy.

My backup and recovery strategy.

1) Windows and programs live on a system drive.

2) Data is housed on separate data drive or drives.

The sytem drive is imaged using REDO when and can be restored either to the old drive after cleaning or a brand new drive.

REDO handles all the partition management stuff and runs directly from its own boot medium (CD for me but it could be a flashdrive etc)

The DATA is copied to a NAS system and perhaps elsewhere as well.

In the event of uncontrollable malware I simply wipe the system and data drives and restore to before the event.

I use Macrium Reflect Free. You have the option select it in the boot screen when you start up as well as with external boot media. It's been over 99% reliable in the 10 years I've been using it; had one cock up.

The way the global IT market is going with the massive transition into cloud services soon you will have no choice. Every piece of interactive hardware you own will be cheap as donuts consisting of a pretty display, a super fast wifi network card and thats it. The rest will be in the cloud.

Yes, it's really quite amazing how we're just reversing the whole PC revolution. Computers were mainframes, with dumb terminals where the user was. Then we pushed functionality outward. Now we're pulling it back. I sort of wish they'd make up their minds. :) My own personal preference is to have dedicated compute power at my exclusive disposal.

I have the same feelings and Im not welcoming this change cheerfuly but its innevitable. It's happening right now. Good news is that you will have as much dedicated compute power at your exclusive disposal as you want...at a swipe of your credit card ;)

If there is somebody who don't understand what I am talking about, such person does not deserve for finishing primary school IMHO.. ;)

At least not in XXI century..

I hope you are joking, lest probably upwards of 95% of the computer using population doesn't deserve to finish primary school. Probably 100% of the non-computer using population.

One of the nice things about today's computers is that most functions, including backups, can be automated even by neophytes.
