seriously disabled Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Thermodynamics is pseudoscience in my opinion and those who believe in the second law of thermodynamics are liars. Life on earth violates the second law of thermodynamics and that's a fact. There was a guy from India named Arindam Banerjee who proved that both thermodynamics and Einstein's theory of relativity are pseudosciences. -10
imatfaal Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 ! Moderator Note Seriously Disabled - you have to be able to justify and back up such claims. You don't just get to say that major theories are incorrect on the word of a guy from India 1
seriously disabled Posted June 23, 2017 Author Posted June 23, 2017 Imatfaal, the theory of evolution of life on Earth contradicts the second law of thermodynamics. So either the theory of evolution is incorrect or the second law of thermodynamics is incorrect, so which is it? -1
imatfaal Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Imatfaal, the theory of evolution of life on Earth contradicts the second law of thermodynamics. So either the theory of evolution is incorrect or the second law of thermodynamics is incorrect, so which is it? Neither - both theories are correct. If you understand thermodynamics and set the system correctly you will see there is no conflict - overall entropy increases even if locally it can appear to be the opposite
swansont Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Imatfaal, the theory of evolution of life on Earth contradicts the second law of thermodynamics. So either the theory of evolution is incorrect or the second law of thermodynamics is incorrect, so which is it? Perhaps you'd state for us the second law of thermodynamics. 1

So either the theory of evolution is incorrect or the second law of thermodynamics is incorrect, so which is it? Too bad there isn't a giant ball of plasma bathing the Earth in usable energy. 4

Why are you specifying "evolution" as opposed to, say, anything else that produces an increase in complexity such as "sperm + egg = fully grown adult human"?
Strange Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Why are you specifying "evolution" as opposed to, say, anything else that produces an increase in complexity such as "sperm + egg = fully grown adult human"? Presumably he saw it on a Creationist website and just believed it because he doesn't know any better. (Ironic for someone who has frequently raged against the idea of god.)
Sensei Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) Imatfaal, the theory of evolution of life on Earth contradicts the second law of thermodynamics. So either the theory of evolution is incorrect or the second law of thermodynamics is incorrect, so which is it? Earth is not closed isolated system in the first place.. DNA/RNA is bombarded by cosmic rays all the time, damaged in random way, causing mutations. If damage is fatal, cell is dying. If damage is non fatal, cell can survive. Cells which have useful for survival changes are spreading mutation further to the next generations. Radioactive isotope of Carbon C-14 is becoming part of body, part of DNA/RNA, and when it decays, it also causes random mutations/damage. Edited June 24, 2017 by Sensei
