AceEducator Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Say if Unicron (planet-sized evil transformer) came to Earth and lifted one of the tectonic plates. As in just ripped it off. Say, the smaller ones, Cocos, Caribbean or Scotia, gets lifted. Now, my question is what would happening to Earth, the the people watching a massive plate be lifted? Other than Earthquakes and death, what would happen? What about if one of the bigger plates gets lifted? Thank you!
MigL Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 All lifting ( unless using some kind of propulsion system ) involves a levering action. What would you stand on to lift a tectonic plate ?
AceEducator Posted July 2, 2017 Author Posted July 2, 2017 Say a massive being does it. They just simply plunge their hand into the ocean and rip it off. I am just wondering what would happen to Earth if that happens.
Daecon Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Is the weight of the tectonic plate keeping the magma in the mantle pressurized?
Sriman Dutta Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Such fantasies can be a part of a Hollywood movie. No idea, what would happen except explosion and wiping out of the life.
jfoldbar Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 they'll definitely fix it with nukes. lots of nukes. and there'd be some great speech there somewhere from trump bout being strong or something.
Area54 Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Remove the entire tectonic plate? That would then expose the mantle at a depth of between 100-200 km. Massive earthquakes as the sides of the chasm collapse. Pressure release from already partially molten rock and you have an eruption that makes the Deccan Traps look like a child's firework. Tsunamis sweep deep into continents, then oceans evaporate, the atmosphere fills with noxious gases and particulates, Dante's Inferno looks like a holiday camp in comparison. Things are so bad the cricket at Lord's is cancelled. 1
