Fuzzwood Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Perhaps not smearing anything on your face is a better idea? Natural or not, it's still a chemical. It's time people realized that

pikachuvoodoo Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Lmao so ridiculous! I hate food companies + I bet they don't list all the pesticides theyre marinated in either!

Fuzzwood Posted July 7, 2017 Author Posted July 7, 2017 Seriously? We need to stay away from "chemicals"? You are missing the point, read the rest of the thread if you would be so kind.

StringJunky Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 (edited) You are missing the point, read the rest of the thread if you would be so kind. i think you are not getting across effectively. it's important to define exactly what you mean by 'chemicals'. i'm not criticising but it's highly nuanced, ambiguous and easily confusing, this sort of conversation. It's easy to assume that people understand words to have the same meaning as you interpret them when you use them in a particular way, especially in the written word. John Cuthber Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 OMG!Someone might put chemicals on their face (which is also made from chemicals). Incidentally, this isn't quite right "that list was to show you all the chemicals that make up a real blueberry.". The list is only a small fraction of the chemicals that make up the berries.

Yes, that's very likely true.
dimreepr Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Yes, that's very likely true. I think the point is, when is a chemical not natural? Much like when is an atom artificial?
StringJunky Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 I think the point is, when is a chemical not natural? Much like when is an atom artificial? This is where the discussion is going: clarifying to the OP their error in what constitutes 'natural' and 'chemical'. 1
zapatos Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 This is where the discussion is going: clarifying to the OP their error in what constitutes 'natural' and 'chemical'. Although it wasn't much better when the OP was being advised on whether or not she should even be wearing makeup in the first place. Good thing she came here before completely screwing up her life by making the wrong decision! 1

Good thing she came here before completely screwing up her life by making the wrong decision! Yeah, telling a woman not to put stuff on their face is like... you know what I mean.
zapatos Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 But heres what makes mansplaining different: When a man mansplains something to a woman, he interrupts or speaks over her to explain something that she already knows indeed, something in which she may already be an expert on the assumption that he must know more than she does. In many cases, the explanation has to do specifically with things that are unique to women their bodies, their experiences, their lives. Weve had some high-profile cases of mansplaining in the last year, perhaps most notably in a September episode of Project Greenlight, when Matt Damon explained diversity to a black female film producer, Effie Brown. https://www.bustle.com/articles/136319-6-subtle-forms-of-mansplaining-that-women-encounter-each-day 1
