professorvaughn Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 I'm really bad at this sort of thing and this is not homework, just curious about learning how to do this type of problem. 80 is the represented number of 25% of the people Find the other represented number for 75% of the other people
StringJunky Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 We first need to find what number of people 1% represents, so we divide the number of people by 25: 80/25 = 3.2 people per 1% We now know 3.2 people makes up 1%, so all we have to do is multiply that 75% figure by 3.2: 75 x 3.2 = 240

professorvaughn Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 Sorry forgot to mention an important detail of the problem. So let me just rephrase the question. 80 is the average number for 25% of the people 95 is the average number overall So I need the average number for 75% of the others so it will equate to 95
Area54 Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 For every 100 people, the total number for 25% of them is 25 x 80 = 2000 For every 100 people the total number for all (100%) of then is 100 x 95 = 9500 Therefore the total number for 75% of the people is 9500 - 2000 = 7500 The average number for each must be 7500/75 = 100.
