Bill Gates and the controversy surrounding vaccinations.

As I'm sure many of you know, Bill Gates has received a lot of criticism regarding his philosophy of depopulation.

The CEO of Microsoft believes, counterintuitively, that as the childhood mortality rate decreases, the population size will naturally decrease as they parents have no need to reproduce again in order to ensure they have surviving offspring.

My question is this;

Why do so may people disagree so strongly with his logic and philosophy?

Do they?

If they do, perhaps because they haven't looked at the evidence.

I suspect folks who disagree are looking at it too simplistically.

Something like: If more children survive / fewer die, the population MUST increase.

Of equal, or greater importance is the fact that falling mortality rates are typically associated with increasing education and affluence. The former tends to encourage greater application of contraception, the latter does the same because parents would rather spend their money on flat screen TVs than on more children.
