1001 = "One thousand and one" OR "One thousand one" - either is acceptable. No comma before the "and".

Wow, that is simply the largest number I've ever seen. How long did it take you to look up all those place names? Or is there just a pattern in there that I just didn't see (god knows I didn't look through them all)?

Actually I don't think the 'and' is supposed to be there, because 'and' implys a decimal point. It would just be "one thousand one"
I can see how an "and" might imply an fractional part. But a decimal point ? Wouldn't you just say "point", as in for the number 4.3, you would write "four point three" rather than "four and three" ?

Anyway, Mathworld confirms that using "and" is okay.

The hyphenation of numbers from twenty-one to ninety-nine is important though (if you want to be all proper and such).

If it was one thousand point one, that's how it would be said. 'One thousand one' doesn't make grammatical sense. 'One thousand and one' indicates a complete unit (one thousand), and one.

You will see the "and" in most literary usage :

One Hundred and one Dalmatians, One Thousand and One (Arabian) Nights, etc.

Thanks for your suggestions, I just removed the comma before the "and", I chose to keep in the ands as that is how most people pronounce numbers.

I noticed for some reason when I copied the numbers from this table I must have not selected some, now your number can be up to 315 numbers long. I was thinking about including the googol but chose not to as that number really is just a joke.
