Why do men who marry younger women live longer?

Should every man try to marry the youngest women around so they can live the longest life compared to others???

No, not at all, I have experienced being married to a woman older than me, and one 14 years younger. Absolutely no contest, although physical age was not a major criterion.

It's been awhile since I read the entire article so I'm not sure. But yeah if you're a guy, do you think it is best to be on the look out for younger women instead of older ones?

If it's not the case, then your earlier question is moot.

"be on the look out for younger women" sounds...creepy. Besides, the study didn't investigate the effect of longevity of unmarried men getting punched in the face by women after being told that they're too old. I suspect that's also bad for your health.

And/or possibly well-to-do. Poverty correlates with many health-related factors, and not in a good way.

It is one of the proposed mechanism (i.e. health selection). However, the overall conclusion of the paper is that it is still unknown what causes the survival advantage for men.

yup.

Other hypotheses include unequal family responsibilities, demographic shifts, sampling issues and more. Interestingly a study found that age dissimilar marriages are more satisfied at the beginning at the marriage, but satisfaction declines with length of marriage. Conversely age similar marriages seem to be more resilient to negative shocks and maintain their initial satisfaction. Still, there are no conclusive hypotheses that would explain the observation.

I vaguely remember that the author compared a model with and without taking socio-economic status into account. Am not sure what the outcome was anymore, though.
