blike Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Whats the meaning behind your username? Mine comes from back in my AOL days (private room: VB, VB5). When I first started using AOL I got into programming little "proggies" to run on top of the AOL software. Everyone who programmed had an alias, and so I needed one. I started out calling myself "one", but I quickly realized everyone and their mother probably went by that name. Soon thereafter I made the screen name OnE2BLiKe (one to be like). One day i was like hrm....I think I'll call myself blike... ...that was around 5 years ago. Now all of my online names have blike in them and its typically what people call me online. Now that I've shed light on my shameful past :embarass:, where do your names come from?
Guest SyntaXVB5 Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 At the time I got my name, was in PC Dev II (the AOL chat for programmers, at the time). I had extensive knowledge in one particular language, but had a little about them all, and a person using the name 'kalani ac' started calling me it. since then i've continued to use it as my username on most things.
Dudde Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 I have no clue...the first time I got on the internet (about the end of 2001)..(the first time having the internet ever) and I went to my first website that needed me to log in, but I couldn't think of a username so I picked "Sir_Dudde" and later decided I didn't like the "Sir" so much so now I have half my internet entities Sir_Dudde and the other half Dudde^_^ ...I kinda like this name..
blike Posted June 13, 2003 Author Posted June 13, 2003 (about the end of 2001)..(the first time having the internet ever) internet n00b.. is dudde your name or something?
greg1917 Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Name is Greg. didnt expect that did you? 1917 > Spent a lot of time looking into emergence of socialism and communism for history a year or two ago. As such remain interested in the Soviet Union, particularly the Eastern Front of WW2.
Dudde Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 yes, I was an internet n00b;) I've done far too much to be considered such now:-p and no, Dudde would be a cool name, but it's only an internet name, my name is Kris (yes Kris with a "k" and I'm not a girl^_^)
Guest -?- Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 Ive been browsing internet forums in gaming communities since like 94', and the first board I ever visited was called I/O Error. Long story short I was like 9 and I annoyed alot of people so the username I was using at the time was well known and not liked. When the board shutdown due to site hosting problems the members split to two different gaming sites which I dont need to advertise. I knew that my username was not welcome so I re-registered at both the forums with the alias "?" because I couldnt think of a new name, and because "?" fits anonymous pretty well I think. Then the forums upgraded to new versions of vb and such and usernames had to have a minimum of 3 characters. "-?-" Since then noone has discovered my original identity and I now administrate 5 of the six gaming communities I visit regularly. I also help run 3 network sites. A little attitude change got me alot more "internet friends", alot more respect online, and a good opportunity to get some help with programming and site design. Awesome what a little name change did for me.
daisy Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 Ahh....an ex-naughty 9-year old. Well, boys will be boys. Perhaps you could explain the finer points of computer use to me - Fafalone has made the common error of over-estimating my computing capabilities - which are nil. You know I'd love an idiots guide to computing (using words of one syllable) that would just tell me stuff in a manner akin to "computing for 2 year olds". I'm serious by the way. I'd buy that book in a second.
Dave Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 My name's dave. Occasionally (like on IRC) i'll use davem because my surname begins with 'm'. Just shows how creative I am
Dudde Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 -?- sounds a lot like me when I first came to the internet;) only I was about 15 or 16 or so..and I had one of those "teen" attitudes I find so very annoying now, although I still frequent the sites that I was like that on and now help run one out of three of them^_^ the others happen to have 40,000+ other members so I find it a privelage just to be well known
MiguelBladesman Posted June 24, 2003 Posted June 24, 2003 it'th like...I'm "Thorro" ya know, with his Black cape and sword?
KHinfcube22 Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 My name is split up in to three separite parts: KH infcube 22. The KH comes from both my name, Keith H??????,(sorry can't give last name out), and a company I wish to start up KH Inc. infcube comes from a theory that popped into my while watching Cube2: Hypercube. And 22 is the day of my birth, 8-22-88. This is one of two sites I use this alias. My most commonly used alias is Okami, (which is Japanese for WOLF.)
Guest White_Rice Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 Oh, how we've all grown. My user name comes from the same story as Blike. Btw whats up guys, know your happy im back

Radical Edward Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 heh, I just copied mine from Cowboy Bebop. I have had lots of internet names though over the years: Hex, Ethics Gradient, Zakalwe... almost always from books or something I like.
Sayonara Posted July 8, 2003 Posted July 8, 2003 Mine is my actual name. Apart from the ³ bit obviously. Who's called x³? Craziness.

Guest Widow Posted July 10, 2003 Posted July 10, 2003 My username is there to remind me of the biblical parable of the widow's gift, so that I remember to be a nice girl. I started using it years ago when, on forums, I typically lost my temper with people who found typing out 'y o u' to be too strenuous. What a mean girl I was! And since this is my first post on this forum, hello. You may thank (or curse) a combination of nationalgeographic.com and google for ultimately leading me here, and the desire to avoid getting work done for my actual registration. Pleased to meet you.
blike Posted July 10, 2003 Author Posted July 10, 2003 My username is there to remind me of the biblical parable of the widow's gift Is that the one with the widow and the oil or bread or something? Nice to have you, btw. What was the google search that led here?
Dudde Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 yep yep good to see new faces^_^ welcome;) ...it is rather annoying when people start using shorthand typing like that isn't it....and you know I'll bet blike is just curious to see if he's missed anything from google;)
