ps2huang Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 As I know, there will be a great new service: to websruf online during the long-distance flight. But I am concerning this, will this reduce the safety of air plane flight of long-distance? Because I plan to go online during the flight of US to Taiwan; I am concerning this. Do you guys think it is ok or it will disturb the signals of receiving?
Callipygous Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 i dont think they would allow it if they thought there was any chance at all of it causing a problem. they probably also have a way to turn it off if it does start to cause a problem.

Well, as I know they will provide this service started this fall. Hoepfully, nothing goes wrong.
Pangloss Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 The safety of your data is another matter. Be sure and put in a good third-party firewall, spyware blocker and antivirus software.
H2SO4 Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Ive never seen an commercial aircraft with internet access. Are you planning on connecting through your cell phone or something?
Pangloss Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 It's coming, not actually here yet (as I understand it). Several articles on the subject have been appearing recently. I wrote something about this for a class last term. I believe United just got approval from the FAA to install a system on its airplanes.
MulderMan Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 lufthansa (german airline) has been doing it for years.
insane_alien Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 if it uses a method of transmission of the data that has been designed to not interfere with the planes systems than it shouldn't interfere. but if its through a mobile i think it might interfere.
ps2huang Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 Oh, as I know, lots of European air line having this online service during the flight. So who has gone through this experience? Did the speed of internet loading on the flight faster than we are?
Pangloss Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Lufthansa has had wireless connections to passenger laptops available for years? Really? That's interesting, I did not know that.
Ophiolite Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 " The connection speed is typically about 5Mbps downstream to the aircraft and 1Mbps upstream to the Internet" http://p143.news.scd.yahoo.com/s/infoworld/20050617/tc_infoworld/58326/nc:1212
H2SO4 Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 so thats not bad. Does this qualify as high speed internt?
Primarygun Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 Do waves with different frequency of the electromagnetic waves interfere?
