Ok I can figure this out the hard way using substitutions, but who can come up with a super quick way to do it.

Simple enough for a nine year old to comprendo.

Two jars both exactly the same.

One bag of beans.

You tip four fifths of the beans into the first jar.

You tip the remaining fifth into the second jar

One jar- bean combo weighs 50 g

and the other jar-bean combo weighs 20 g…

Question…how much does one of jars alone weigh?

10g

is that fast enough?

edit: sorry reasoning, erm I added the 2 together making 70 then waht did I have to take away to make 50 (as it`s in 5`ths) then I split the 20.

correct.

but i'm not sure about the reason.

how did you pull the double jar quantity out of the seventy?

ther is no specific mention of the ratio of jar to bean.

How about this one

I was three times the age of my brother five years ago and now I am just twice as old as he, how old am I now.

can any one make this rhyme?

I was 3 times as old as my Brother, but not the same age as my Mother,

5 years have past, and much to my rage,

he`s now 50 percent of my age!

howzat :)

5
If that were true then his brother would currently be 2.5 and five years back would have been -2.5, five years back he (speaker of the riddle) would have been 0 and 0 is not 3 time -2.5 so that must be wrong.

20 would make significantly more sense.

yeah I gave the little brothers starting age, sorry, either way, I got 20 to work that out as it starts when he`s 15
