fudgetusk Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 The photon wave collapses when it comes into contact with something. Why does it not collapse when it passes through the screen with the slits? Why does it split into two waves? THank you.
DrP Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 It travels through the slits the same way a water wave would travel through a double slit... emerging from the other side from both points which interfere. (I think! - it has been a while - others will say if I am wrong for sure). Here is a you-tube demonstration for water.

But why does it not collapse on the side of the screen? by being bisected it is coming into contact with the screen so it should collapse and not pass through the slits. Strange Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Some photons do. Others pass through the slits.
