beecee Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 A giant amongst men: Given 2 years to live at the age of 21 years, he instead reached out into the Universe, with his knowledge, humour and example. I'm drinking a can of Fosters to his memory. 1
iNow Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 The average intelligence of the world just dropped closer to that of Trump
MigL Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 He will be missed. The physicist did a lot to popularize Physics and Cosmology in the late 20th/early 21dt century. And the man will be remembered for his valiant fight against ALS.
koti Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 (edited) It is a sad day, the world lost a great mind. His sense of humor was a great addition to his work - his singing of the Monty Python "Galaxy Song", the poker scene on Star Trek The Next Generation, his appearance on episodes of "Big Bang Theory" and the Simpsons...countless interviews and comedy shows he appeared in. He had a great life considering that he made it to 76 when he was getting 2 years max at 22 years of age. On top of his work in physics he left 3 children, a major hollywood film was made as his biography - who could ask for a more fulfilling life. Edited March 14, 2018 by koti 3
iNow Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I don't really have heroes. Hawking was pretty damned close, though
StringJunky Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 He certainly knocked it out of the park when it came to persevering in the face of adversity.
iNow Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Reminiscent of Helen Keller, but better at doing wicked hard math in his head
Benjamin @BreakthroughSc Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 A great mind indeed. What would you say was his greatest scientific contribution? Hawking Radiation? The comparison of the big bang with a reverse collapsing black hole?

Itoero Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 He left a huge footprint! I hope the new episode of The Big Bang Theory is devoted to him.

Strange Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Jonathon Oliver: You have said you believe it is possible there are an infinite number of parallel universes. Does that mean there is one where I am smarter than you? Stephen Hawking: Yes. [pause] And also one where you are funny. And on a more serious note, hist last paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/1707.07702 (no, I don't understand it either)
Area54 Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 "The ashes of Professor Stephen Hawking will be interred next to the grave of Sir Isaac Newton at Westminster Abbey, it has been revealed" From this item. It would have been a travesty if this were not the case (family, or personal wishes excepted).

sophiewilson0191 Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 He left a Black hole in peoples heart. His journey still continues. REST IN PEACE "Space man". https://www.evolving-science.com/information-communication/stephen-hawking-and-physics-putting-his-theories-practice-00596
