MaxCathedral Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 We can assume that dreams are altered states of consciousness which actually effect the body while sleeping. This is because the brain never sleeps. but how does the brain decide on what "movie" to run that night? Just random selection, what ever is floating around on the subconscoius level? and what of truly scary alterated states..while wide awake. Are we like those cars that are able to produce a surprising number of clowns, or is there only One Consciosness, sending out its armies, but like a General never entering the war himself.
YT2095 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 well everything made sense up until this point: and what of truly scary alterated states..while wide awake. Are we like those cars that are able to produce a surprising number of clowns' date=' or is there only One Consciosness, sending out its armies, but like a General never entering the war himself.[/quote'] as for the rest, IIRC, dreams are symbology only, Usualy from outstanding issues in daily life left over to be dealt with or resolved. often emotional issues un-addressed. so as your day progresses, your Subconscious mind keeps a "tab" on these and sets "Flags". when you sleep and dream it`s like unwinding a coiled spring, and these issues get "Played out" in a way that appeases the SC in a satisfactory way. it`s alot more complicated than that certainly, but that`s the basics
Luminous Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I suppose it depends on what dreams your talking about. Your body goes through different phases of sleep in each of which you experience dfferent dreaming. Sometimes dreams are deep rooted emotional problems, sometimes they are like a training excercise for your brain to help teach you how to respond to different situations and stuff. And in some(most) are all sorts of random information stored in your subcontious all puzzled together in the wrong order. Thats why they dont make sense most of the time and people, places, and things are all mixed up and change from one moment to the next.
